Removal of Free Fatty Acid in used oil on Zeolite Catalysts (제올라이트 종류에 따른 유리지방산 제거 특성)

  • 자원 재활용 및 에너지 생산관점에서 폐유지로부터 환경친화적인 연료인 바이오디젤에 대한 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다. 특히 폐유지내 함유된 유리지방산 및 수분에 의해 효율적인 에스테르화 반응이 어렵기 때문에 이를 전처리 단계에서 제거되어야 한다. 본 연구에서는 폐유지내 유리지방산을 효과적으로 제거하기 위하여 회분식 반응기에서 제올라이트 촉매의 종류에 의한 세공구조와 산성도 변화에 따른 유리지방산 전환반응에 미치는 영향을 조사해 보았다. 제올라이트 촉매의 유리지방산 전환율은 세공구조와 산성도에 따라 큰 차이를 나타내었다. 유리지방산 전환율은 FAU < MOR < MFI < BEA의 순으로 높았다. 제올라이트의 세공구조는 1차원적인 구조를 가질 경우 탄소침적이 일어나지만 3차원적인 세공구조를 가지는 경우 탄소침적에 의한 촉매의 활성저하가 감소된다. 또한 제올라이트의 산성도에 따른 특성으로는 유리지방산의 전환반응에는 중간정도의 산세기를 가진 촉매가 유리함을 확인하였다. 그러므로 폐유지로부터 유리지방산을 제거하기 위한 우수한 제올라이트 촉매로는 BEA 제올라이트 촉매임을 확인하였다.

  • 최근 고유가의 지속과 국제적인 환경 규제에 대응하기 위하여 환경친화적인 대체연료의 개발이 시급한 가운데 재생가능한 동식물성 유지로부터 생산되는 바이오 디젤에 대한 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다. 특히 자원 재활용 및 에너지 생산관점에서 폐유지로부터 바이오디젤 원료로 사용하는 연구가 활발히 진행되어 왔다. 이러한 폐유지로부터 바이오디젤을 효율적으로 생산하기 위해서는 폐유지내 함유되어 있는 유리지방산을 전처리공정에서 산촉매에 의한 에스테르화 반응에 의해 전환제거하고자 한다. 본 연구에서는 폐유지내 함유된 유리지방산 전환제거에 효과적인 불균일계 이온교환수지 촉매를 이용하여 공정변수 즉 사용된 촉매의 양, 반응온도, 유리지방산 농도에 따른 유리지방산 전환제거특성을 조사해 보았다. 또한 각각의 반응조건에서 속도상수를 계산하여 이온교환수지 촉매를 사용한 유리지방산 전환 제거에 필요한 활성화 에너지 값을 구하였다.

  • Fatty acid methyl esters, also referred to as biodiesel, have been determined to have a great deal of potential as substitutes for petro-diesel. In order to enhance productivity in the biodiesel production process, feedstocks were previously recommended to be anhydrous, with a free fatty acid content of less than 0.5%. In this study, the effects of several catalysts, methanol molar ratio, catalyst amount, and reaction time on the reduction of free fatty acid level were studied with a simulated feedstock consisting of 20% oleic acid in rapeseed oil. Ferric sulfate was selected as the best catalyst. Increasing the catalyst amount and methanol molar ratio is very effective in decreasing the acid value of the simulated mixture. Our results may provide useful information with regard to the development of more economic and efficient free fatty acid removal system.

Studies on the Free Fatty Acids of Domestic Butter (국산 버터 중의 유리지방산에 관한 연구)

  • Free fatty acids of two brands of domestic butter were isolated directly by a modified silicic acid column chromatography, and were analyzed by gas liquid chromatography. $C_{18}$ FFA congeners $(C_{18_0},\;C_{18:1},\;C_{18:2}\;and\;C_{18:3})$ were the predominant components (52.83% in brand A and 47.50% in brand B), followed by $C_{16}$FFA (29.39% in brand A and 30.52% in brand B) and $C_{14}$FFA (11.85% in brand A and 13.76% in brand B). The other FFA were present as minor components (0.29-3.87%). Concentrations of four FFA $(C_4,\;C_6,\;C_{10}\;and\;C_{12})$FFA which would be expected to contribute strongly to hydrolytic rancidity off-flavors were below individual threshold level, except $C_4FFA$ (56 ppm) in butter B.

  • Preparation of soybean oil fatty acid methyl esters (soybean oil FAME) through the transesterification of soybean oil with alkaline catalyst was optimized in terms of contents of residual free fatty acids (FFA) in soybean oil FAME and yield of soybean oil FAME due to the inhibitory effect of FFA on sucrose polyesters synthesis. Soybean oil FAME and residual FFA were analyzed quantitatively by simultaneous gas chromatography on a fused silica capillary column after converting the FFA in soybean oil FAME to tert.-butyldimethylsilyl (TBDMS) derivatives. Transesterification of soybean oil was successfully performed with alkaline catalyst (NaOH, 95%), which resulted in 99.1% yield of soybean oil FAME and less than 0.1% residual FFA contents under the conditions such as $30^{\circ}C$, 20min. and 6:1 molar ratio of anhydrous methanol to soybean oil.

Effects of Lipolysis and Fatty Acid Composition on Off-flavor in Goat Milk (산양유의 지방분해 특성과 지방산 조성이 산양유 이취에 미치는 영향)

  • The average milk fat content in goat milk was 3.88% on yearly basis. The milk fat content of 3.8% during summer season was lower than 4.2% during winter season. Total solid content increased in proportion to milk fat. When goat milk was stored at 4℃ for 24 hr, short-chain FFA(C4:0~C10:0) and medium- and long-chain FFA(C12:0~C18:1) increased about 106% and 203%, respectively. Induced lipolysis of goat milk by homogenization increased short-chain FFA and medium- and long-chain FFA by 22% and 199%. When goat milk was treated with calf lipase, there was increase of short-chain FFA by 9 times greater than increase of medium- and long-chain FFA by 5.6 times. Treatment with lipases from Candida rugosa and Pseudomonas fluorescens resulted in increase of medium- and long-chain FFA by 34 and 162 times, respectively, which was greater than increase of short-chain FFA by 6 and 14 times, respectively. Lipolysis in goat milk stored at 4℃ for 24 hr was correlated with LPL activity in goat milk(r=0.5635). Off-flavor of goat milk was correlated with LPL activity(r=0.5777). Milk fat content was negatively correlated with LPL activity(r=-0.4627). Palmitic acid content in goat milk was correlated with off-flavor(r=0.7226).

  • In order to vitrify the Ion-Exchange Resin(IER), Dry Active Waste(DAW), and borate concentrate generated from the commercial nuclear facilities, the glass formulation study based on the their compositions was performed. Two glasses named as RG-1 and DG-1 were formulated as the candidate glasses for the vitrification of hte IER and DAW, respectively. A glass named as MG-1 was also formulated as a candidate glass for the vitrification of the mixed wastes containing the IER, DAW, and borate concentrate. The process parameters, product qualities, and economics were evaluated for the candidate glasses and confirmed experimentally for the some properties. The glass viscosity and electrical conductivity as the process parameters were in the desired ranges. the product qualities such as glass density, chemical durability, phase stability, etc. were satisfactory. In case of vitrifying the wastes using our developed glass formulation study, the volume reduction factors for the IER, DAW and mixed wastes were evaluated as 21, 89 and 75, respectively.

The analysis and algebraic consideration on the rationalizing denominators in school mathematics (학교수학에서 제시하는 분모의 유리화 분석 및 대수적 고찰)

  • The rationalizing denominators presented in the mathematics textbooks is being used in various places of school mathematics curriculum. However, according to some previous research on the rationalizing denominators in school mathematics, it seems that there is no clear explanation as to why rationalizing denominators is necessary and why it should be used. In addition, a previous research insists that most students know how to rationalize denominators but do not understand why it is necessary and important. To confirm this, we examined the rationalizing denominators presented in the 2015 revised mathematics curriculum as school mathematics. Then we also examined the rationalizing denominators algebraically as academic mathematics. In detail, we conducted an analysis on the rationalizing denominators presented in randomly selected three mathematics textbooks and teacher guidebooks for middle school third grade. Then the algebraic meaning of the rationalizing denominators was examined from a proper algebraic structure analysis. Based on this, we present alternative definitions of the rationalizing denominators which is suitable for school mathematics and academic mathematics. Finally, we also present the mathematical contents (irrationals of the special form can be algebraically interpreted as numbers in the standard form) that teachers should know when they teach the rationalizing denominators in school mathematics.

Design of a 10× Zoom Lens with an Expander for an MWIR Camera Using Athermal Material Composition Method (비열화 소재 구성 방법을 이용한 중적외선 카메라용 확장형 10배 줌 렌즈 설계)

  • This study presents a method for designing an athermal middle wavelength infrared (MWIR) zoom lens with the iterative selection of material compositions on an athermal glass map. The optical properties of glass for MWIR are generally very sensitive to temperature, compared with visible glass. To compensate for focus error due to temperature change, the non-athermalized zoom system requires a large amount of movement of a compensator, which results in an unstable zoom system. To solve this problem, the material compositions for an athermal zoom lens have effectively been obtained using the thermal aberration correction process analytically on an athermal glass map. An expander lens is used to enlarge the focal lengths of an original main zoom lens two times. Finally, while this expander is attached to an original athermal zoom system, the final zoom system equipped with this expander doubles the focal length ranges and has stable performance over a specified temperature range.
