  • A wind power heat generation system that converts wind power directly to heat instead of electric power is considered in this study. The system consists of a wind turbine part and a heat generation part. The heat generation part is materialized by a hydraulic system including a hydraulic pump, a flow control valve, a hydraulic oil tank, etc. The flow control valve primarily converts hydraulic energy generated in the pump to heat energy. It should have a function of overspeed protection under excessive wind speeds. In this study, a novel flow control valve design is proposed for excellent flow control characteristics under excessive pump driving torque (excessive wind speed). The performance of the suggested valve is analyzed using numerical simulation.

  • In the present study, the effect of opening patterns of a flow control valve on underwater discharge systems using a linear pump was investigated numerically. For that, a improved mathematical model was developed. The improvement is to separate a middle tank from a water cylinder because the cross-section area of the inlet of the middle tank is an important parameter. To validate the improved model, calculation results were compared with a previous study. The results showed that $2^{nd}$ order or more polynomial opening patterns had an advantage over ramp opening patterns. Higher an order of polynomial resulted in wider operating limits. An escape velocity and a maximum acceleration of underwater vehicle were affected by time derivative of the cross-section area of the flow control valve. Besides, as a velocity profile of the vehicle got closer to linearity, the escape velocity got faster and the maximum acceleration got smaller. And velocities of the vehicle and piston had similar variation trend.

  • In the present study, the effect of command signals of the flow control valve on performance of underwater discharge systems using a linear pump was investigated numerically. For that, the improved mathematical model was developed. The improvement is to calculate the flow leakage between the water cylinder and the piston. Also the model of the hydraulic cylinder is simplified. To validate the improved model, calculation results were compared with experiment results. The results of the study is as follows: Double ramp command signals of the flow control valve had an advantage over single ramp signals. The parametric study on the effect of double ramp command signals on performance of the system was performed. In case of using double ramp signals, the maximum acceleration of the underwater vehicle was reduced by approximately 50 % compared with using single ramp signals.

  • We performed a dynamic characterization of passive flow-rate regulators, which compensate for inlet pressure variation and maintain a constant flow rate for precise liquid control in microfluidic systems. To measure the flow rate for a short time, much less than the period of the dynamic inlet pressure, we use the particle image velocimetry (PIV) method. DI water containing fluorescent beads with a $0.7-{\mu}m$ diameter was supplied to the flow-rate regulators, and two successive images of the particles were taken by a pulse laser and a fluorescent microscope to measure the flow velocity. For a dynamic inlet pressure of frequency 60 Hz, the flow velocity was constant with an average of 0.194 ${\pm}$ 0.014 m/s as the inlet pressure varied between 20 kPa to 50 kPa. The flow-rate regulators provided a constant flow rate of $5.82{\pm}0.29\;{\mu}l/s$ in the frequency range of the inlet pressure from 1 Hz to 60 Hz.

  • Numerical analysis was conducted on thrust vector control using multi-nozzle system. The nozzle using flow valve switch to control mass flow of multi scarfed nozzle to manage thrust was considered. The operating characteristics of scarfed nozzle, thrust component and moment of multi nozzle in terms of mass flow rate were investigated by three dimensional flow simulation.

  • The process of charging an oxidizer in the liquid propellant rocket can divide into the cooling of the oxidizer tank, the high flow charge, the small flow charge, and the replenishment charge for the correction of temperature. The oxidizer of the Naro(KSLV-I) first stage uses the liquid oxygen. And the flow rate and the temperature specification corresponding to each charge mode are presented for the requirement. The flow throttling valve and heat exchanger are installed in the oxidizer filling system in order to satisfy this kind of the flow rate and temperature requirement specification. In this research, by using the Flowmaster which is a commercial one-dimension thermo-fluidic analysis program, one dimensional flow system analyses was performed to predict the exact flow rate at each specific mode. Also, the flow rate correction sensitivity of the flow control valves was analytically determined to satisfy the flow condition refinement at each mode within the limited certification test.

  • Flow divider valve, a kind of hydraulic control valve to divide the flow from one input line to two output line uniformly, should be able to keep the constant flow to output lines despite of the change load or supply pressure. Having 5-10% flow diving error in commercial hydraulic products is one of main source of the accumulated error caused hydraulic system problem and demands the development of flow divider valve to control flow more accurately, In this paper, the dynamic characteristics of flow divider valve are investigated by the numerical estimation of the spool motion considered the external supply force. The optimum design of flow divider valve are proposed to reduce the flow diving error. For the dynamic characteristics analysis, the change of sectional area of fixed and variable orifice, and spool are studied when the input signal is accepted to a constant load.

  • Hybrid rockets have many advantages over solid and liquid rockets. Hybrid rockets put forth high $I_{sp}$ like liquid rockets in spite of simple structure and low cost. As oxidizer flow rate is increased, thrust of hybrid rocket is increased accordingly. In this study, lab-scale hybrid rocket is designed, fabricated and tested. This system consists of lab-scale hybrid rocket motor, ignition system, flow system and data aquisition system. In order to control oxidizer flow rate, we construct flow rate control system by using needle valve and stepping motor.

  • The fluid system such as, the quantity control of raw water, chemicals control in the purification, the waste water system as well as in the feed water or circulation system of the power plant and the ventilation system is controlled with the valve and moter pump. The system's performance and the energy saving of the fluid systems depend on control of method and delicacy. Until, PI controller use in these system but it cannot control delicately because of the coupling in the system loop. In this paper we configure a single flow system to the multi variable system and suggest the application of 2-DOF PID controller and the tuning methods by the neural network to the electrical power of the flow control system. the 2-DOF controller follows to a setpoint has a robustness against the disturbance in the results of simulation. • A butterfly valve is a type of flow-control device typically used to regulate a fluid flow. This paper presents an estimation of the shape parameter of the Weibull distribution, characteristic life, and $B_{10}$ life for a concentric butterfly valve based on a statistical analysis of the reliability test data taken before and after the valve improvement. The difference in the shape and scale parameters between the existing and improved valves is reviewed using a statistical hypothesis test. The test results indicate that the shape parameter of the improved valve is similar to that of the existing valve, and that the scale parameter of the improved valve is found to have increased. These analysis results are particularly useful for a reliability qualification test and the determination of the service life cycles.
