Upgrade Development of a Centrifugal Compressor for Marine Engine Turbochargers (선박용 터보차져 원심압축기의 성능향상 개발)

  • Upgrade development of a high pressure ratio centrifugal compressor in marine engine turbochargers is presented. A new matched operating point at increased speed of rotation was determined through system cycle analysis using the exisitng test data of turbine performance. Under some severe restrictions for geometric parameters, the state-of-the-art methods of both aerodynamic design and CFD analysis were applied, in which only an impeller, a vaned diffusor and some part of casing wall were modified. Prototype hardware was fabricated and assembled for system performance tests. Excellent performance in pressure ratio and efficiency was obtained over whole speed region. Reduced surge and choke margin was, however, observed at design speed of rotation.

  • 댐이 건설된 이후 운영편익은 여러 가지 이유로 원래의 목적이나 목표를 달성하는데 어려운 상황이 발생하게 된다. 실제 대부분의 다목적댐의 경우 홍수기에 댐 하류 하천의 환경변화로 계획된 홍수량을 적절히 방류하지 못하는 사례가 늘고 있으며 이로 인해 유효 저수용량을 충분히 활용하지 못해 이수측면에서도 계획공급량을 충족시키지 못하는 경우가 발생하고 있다. 이는 하천이 댐에서 조절된 홍수량을 안전하게 하류로 배수시키는데 필요한 통수능을 충분히 확보하지 못하고 있기 때문이다. 이의 주요 원인은 댐 하류하천의 침식이나 제방상태가 부실하여 하천이 설계홍수량을 소통시키는데 많은 장애 요인을 갖고 있기 때문이다. 결국 하천의 통수능은 홍수조절과 관련된 댐 운영의 제약조건으로 작용하게 되어 댐 운영측면에서는 큰 손실을 야기하게 된다. 본 연구에서는 기존 다목적댐의 홍수기 운영제약조건으로 작용했던 하류의 통수능 개선을 통한 유효저수용량의 복원에 따른 기대효과를 분석하였다. 이를 통하여 댐의 유효저수용량 확보에 가장 큰 장애요인이라 할 수 있는 댐 직하류에서 계획홍수량의 일정 유량을 피해없이 방류할 수 있는 통수능 개선을 통해 이수목적의 유효저수용량의 회복이 현재의 운영여건에 비해 용수공급과 수력발전으로 대표되는 이수목적의 추가적 편익이 어떻게 발생하는지를 평가하였다.

  • High-efficient HEV Engine cooling systems reflects variable coolant temperature because it can decrease the hydrodynamic frictional losses of lubricated engine parts in light duty conditions. In order to safely raise the operating temperature of passenger cars to a constant higher level, and thus optimize combustion and all accompanying factors, a new thermostat technology was developed : the electronically map-controlled thermostat. In this work, various crystalline plastics such as polyphthalamide (PPA) and polyphenylenesulfide (PPS) mixed with various glass fiber amounts were introduced into plastic fittings of automotive electronic controlled thermostat for the purpose of suppressing influx of coolant into the element and undesirable opening during hot soaking. Skirt was installed around element frame of automotive electronic controlled thermostat for improving thermal sensitivity in terms of response time, hysteresis and melting temperature. To validate the effectiveness and optimum shape of skirt, thermal sensitivity test and three-dimensional CFD simulation have been performed. As a consequence, important improvement in thermal sensitivity with less than 3℃ of maximum coolant temperature between opening and engine inlet was obtained.

  • State feedback with integral control for a variable air volume(VAV) unit which is recently taken notice of for the energy efficiency and saving in the building is studied to investigate the performance of the digital control methodology for the possible practical application. The digital controller which acquires the targat zone temperature and the air flow rate of the supplied air to the zone controls the opening of the damper in the VAV unit. Simulation results are performed for the conditions including reference changes and external thermal variations. In the simulation. simplified conditioned zone and the damper actuator modelling is considered. and relationships between controller gain Parameters and the system dynamics are investigated.

  • A pneumatic control valve performs a major role in controlling the flow of a system or the level of a key tank in many power plants, and its performance should be guaranteed during the plant's lifetime. Its operation starts by supplying air to the pneumatic actuator or by exhausting the air from the actuator. To control the valve position, the amount of air supply or exhaust is adjusted by a control loop where various accessaries are equipped. In this paper, air leakage in the air supply line, changes in the valve packing force, and false adjustments of zero and the span of the positioner are simulated and analyzed using a 2-in pneumatic valve with a position control loop including an I/P converter and positioner, where the valve position is controlled within ${\pm}2%$ of the control pressure at 67% opening position.

  • Fuel-side cold-flow tests were performed on the technology demonstration model of a 75 ton-class liquid rocket engine combustion chamber for the first stage of the Korea space launch vehicle II. Pressure drop in the cooling channels of the combustion chamber was measured by changing fuel mass flow rate through a pressure regulating system. Pressure drop in each segment of the chamber could be obtained and a lot of pressure drop was caused by high flow velocity in the nozzle throat segment. The accuracy of a hydraulic analysis method for calculating a pressure loss in cooling channels could be verified by applying it to the cold-flow test conditions.

사중극 질량 분석기[QMS]를 이용한 미세 농도의 수소기체 분석

  • 반도체 제조, 디스플레이 산업 등의 진공공정에서 잔류기체의 종류와 양에 대한 관심이 높아지면서 사용이 쉽고 높은 정확도를 가지는 사중극 질량 분석기(QMS)가 널리 쓰이고 있다. 특히 고진공으로 내려가면서 리크디텍션(leak detection)과 미세량의 잔류기체 감지가 더욱더 요구된다. 그중에서도 진공공정에서의 수소 가스를 감지하는 것은 매우 중요하므로 $H_2$/Ar 혼합가스를 이용하여 미세농도의 수소를 측정하였다. 측정하려는 가스를 부피확장 방법으로 가스챔버로 희석하여 이동시키고 핀홀에서 가스유량을 더 줄여서 QMS가 기체를 감지하는 압력범위를 유지하면서 측정하였다. 미세량의 수소기체를 감지하기 위해 이온소스의 emission current, Ion ref. voltage, cathode voltage의 변수를 조절하여 QMS를 최적화 하였으며, 그 결과 수십 ppm 농도까지 측정이 가능하다.

  • The paper presents the performance characteristics for a cooling system using EEV. The water cooler was used to reduce thermal deformation and contraction due to high speed of machine tools and the EEV was used for capacity control for water cooler. The apparatus was designed for hot-gas bypass system which a hot-gas can flows from outlet of compressor to the inlet of evaporator. This experiment is the intermediary study for precise temperature control through PID control. The results show that the evaporator pressure increased and refrigeration capacity decreased as the EEV opening step of hot-gas bypass increased. These results can be used as basic data for the design of effective water cooler.

  • A pressure control law to regulate mass flow rate of gas generator is suggested. The governing equation is modeled by considering the burning rate of solid propellant and the conservation equation of gas generator. And then, a classical control law is applied after verifying the accuracy of dynamic model through comparing with ground test and internal ballistic results. The results show degradation of performance as shown in typical time varying system. To overcome this problem, an adaptive scheme is suggested and the performance is verified through numerical simulation.
