Sediment Transport Characteristics in a Pressure Pipeline (압력 원형관로내 유사이송특성 연구)

  • The low carrying capacity caused by the deposition in a sewer line is one of the main reason of the urban flood. Therefore, an efficient maintenance and management of the storm water drainage system is very important to prevent urban flood. In this research, the sediment transport characteristics through a pressure pipeline were examined with laboratory experiments. Bed-forms in a pipeline, sediment rates, roughness due to sediments were examined. Experimental system consists of flow circulation system with a pump and a sediment feeder at the upstream of the pipeline. Sediments were supplied into a 60 mm-diameter and 8 m-long pipe. Maximum flow rate is $30m^3/hr$, and the sediment feeding rate range is 5 g/s~19 g/s. Governing parameters and estimation equation for sediment transport rate were developed. The mean velocity (U), coefficient of viscosity (${\mu}$), unit width bed load ($q_b$), mean diameter of particle ($d_{50}$), unit weight of sediment in water (${\gamma}^{\prime}_s$) were adopted as the most influencing factors of sediment transport patterns. The prediction equation for sediment transport rate were developed with two dimensionless terms. These two dimensionless terms showed a linear relationship with high correlation coefficient.

Air Drying Technology for Dewatered Cake from Wastewater and Waterworks Sludge (상.하수 슬러지 탈수케이크의 공기건조에 관한 연구)

  • Air drying equipment was built as a device for reduction of dewatered cake from wastewater and waterworks sludge and to reproduce it by reusable matter. Dewatered cake was supplied into the air drying equipment which operated by air velocity of 80 m/sec, air rate 30 $m^3/min$ and air temperature of $40^{\circ}C$, and dried to produce the dried powder. The air drying equipment was composed of the air ejector which made high-speed fluid field, and cyclone which made circling fluid field. Dewatered cake was crushed at the high-speed zone as first step, and formed into dried powder of sphere shape by the collision between particles at the circling fluid zone.. Wastewater sludge with water content of 82.5 wt% was supplied 1.0 kg/min into air drying equipment and produced the dried powder which had the water content of 62.3 wt% and mass median diameter of 2.4 mm after process. At that time, it was analyzed that water removal rate was 0.1 $H_2O{\Delta}kg/min{\cdot}DS$ kg and air consumption was 170 $m^3/DS$ kg. Under same experimental conditions, when waterworks sludge was dried, water content of dried powder decrease to 47.5 wt% and mass median diameter decrease 2.1 mm and water removal rate increase 0.13 $H_2O{\Delta}kg/min{\cdot}DS$ kg. Air consumption increase 180 $m^3/DS$ kg with comparison to the results of wastewater sludge. Therefore, this technology was evaluated that drying the dewatered cake of waterworks sludge was more efficient than wastewater sludge, and also economical sludge handling technology due to drying the cake by only air.

  • This study tries to analyze the injection amount of injector according to the external environment temperature of CNG vehicle. Especially, We investigated the effect of low temperature environment on gas injector performance by measuring the variation of injection amount under the same conditions as in coldstart condition. This experimental compared two products with different spring characteristics. The experimental device consist of a fuel supply unit, a flowrate measurement unit, a temperature chamber, and an injector control unit (ECU). According to the test result, the initial injection amount of the injector is increased in the low temperature environment and the needle opening time is delayed according to the change of the spring length.

  • An ambient hot-firing test was carried out for the hydrazine thruster which may be employed in the space launch vehicles. The thruster is designed to produce 67 N (15 $lb_f$) of nominal steady-state thrust at an inlet pressure of 2.41 MPa (350 psia). A scrutiny into the performance characteristics of thruster is made in terms of thrust, propellant supply pressure, mass flow rate, chamber pressure, and temperature at the steady-state firing mode. As a result, it is ensured that the practical performance efficiencies are above 89.1% compared to its ideal requirements.

  • It is very important to improve the combustion efficiency and reduce pollutant emission in order to save energy and environment. Especially, thermal NOx has been reduced through monitoring burner flame, because the thermal NOx is strongly related to flame characteristics. In this work, a flame-monitoring system was fabricated with photodiode, optical fiber, interference filter and data acquisition system, and it was applied to a lab-scale methane combustion system and a testing facility. Flame intensity and mean frequency increased with increasing turbulent intensity and fuel loading. The sensor signal from flame fluctuations differed from that without flame, which showed the availability af the flame scanner to find the presence of flame. NOx emissions increased with flame intensity.

An Experimental Study of the Local Scouring at the Downstream of the Fixed Bed in Open Channel Flow (개수로 흐름 내 고정하상 하류부에서의 국부세굴에 관한 실험 연구)

  • 본 연구에서는 고정하상 직하류부에서 발생하는 국부세굴현상을 분석하기 위해서 이동상 수리실험을 수행하였다. 순환식 유량공급이 가능한 개수로 실험장치에 아크릴로 제작된 사각형 모형을 설치하고 하류에 균일한 입경의 모래를 설치하여 다양한 수리조건과 시간변화에 따른 하상고의 변화를 측정하였다. 그리고 측정된 하상고 자료로부터 시간별 최대세굴심의 크기를 산정하여 분석하였다. 그 결과 세굴심의 상류부 경사는 일정한 값으로 유지되었고, 최대세굴심과 세굴공 길이, 최대세굴심 발생거리는 시간변화에 따라 증가폭이 점차적으로 감소하였다. 또한 세굴심의 시간변화식의 기울기와 경계지점에서의 수심평균 상대난류강도값과의 관계를 분석하였다. 세굴공 내에서는 하상근처에서 후류가 발생하고, 수심방향으로 유속편차가 극심하게 증가하는 분리전단층이 발생하였다. 본 연구에서 분석된 최대세굴심의 시간적 변화양상과 세굴심 내부에서 발생하는 흐름 및 난류강도 분포특성을 보다 면밀히 분석하여 세굴심의 발달에 영향을 미치는 인자를 이용하여 향후 적절한 세굴심의 예측식을 개발할 수 있고, 최대세굴심을 저감할 수 있는 방안을 제안할 수 있다.

  • The wet shotcrete refers to a method in which all materials are mixed and then supplied to the spraying device, compressed air is added to the nozzle, and the spraying speed is improved to spray on the target surface. In order to reproduce the amount of shotcrete used in the wet method in the field and the situation at the laboratory scale, it is essential to control the discharge amount of the equipment. In this study, in order to increase the reproducibility of field conditions at the laboratory scale, a flow control system for shotcrete mortar spraying equipment was developed and applied to the equipment. To verify the developed equipment, a discharge control test using water and mortar was performed. In the developed control system, the discharge was smoothly controlled according to the user input value for the mono pump, but the discharge was not properly controlled according to the input value for the screw pump because of a reducer. When a speed reducer is attached, it is necessary to adjust the operation rate of the screw pump close to the target flow rate by increasing the operation rate of the screw pump while lowering the operation rate of the mono pump.

Performance Characteristics with Various Fuel Composition and Temperature for an External Type Fuel Pump in LPLi System (LPLi 시스템에서 외장형 펌프의 연료조성 및 온도에 따른 성능특성 연구)

  • Since LPG (Liquefied petroleum gas) fuel supply system has an advantage of low emission characteristics, many studies have been conducted. In spite of the advantage of LPG supply system, a higher vapor pressure and lower viscosity than diesel or gasoline fuel may cause unstable running of fuel pump by the deterioration in lubrication performance and chemical reaction with rubber parts than that of diesel and gasoline fuel. Therefore its physical properties can cause the deterioration of durability. In this research, we developed an external type LPG pump which has the advantage of the price competitiveness and the convenient maintenance for LPLi system. The experiments were carried out in order to assess characteristics of the external type fuel pump at different fuel composition and temperature. As a result, there aren't any differences between internal and external type pump performance. It is observed that the same level of efficiency was maintained for both pumps as flow rate was increased with higher fuel temperature and more contents of propane in the fuel. And the pressure difference in LPLi system is maintained at constant with the various fuel compositions and temperatures due to their own characteristics of fuel supply system.

  • A pneumatic control valve performs a major role in controlling the flow of a system or the level of a key tank in many power plants, and its performance should be guaranteed during the plant's lifetime. Its operation starts by supplying air to the pneumatic actuator or by exhausting the air from the actuator. To control the valve position, the amount of air supply or exhaust is adjusted by a control loop where various accessaries are equipped. In this paper, air leakage in the air supply line, changes in the valve packing force, and false adjustments of zero and the span of the positioner are simulated and analyzed using a 2-in pneumatic valve with a position control loop including an I/P converter and positioner, where the valve position is controlled within ${\pm}2%$ of the control pressure at 67% opening position.
