An adiabatic counter-current vertical two-phase flow of air and water in narrow rectangular channels with offset strip fm was investigated experimentally. Tests were systematically performed with downward liquid superficial velocities and upward gas velocities covering 0 to 0.06 m/s and 0 to 2.5 m/s ranges, respectively. Two-phase flow regimes were classified by examining the video images of flow patterns in transparent test sections of 760 mm long and 100 mm wide channel with gaps of 3.0 and 5.0 mm. The channel average void fraction was measured by the quick-closing valve method. Unlike the flow regimes in the channels without fin, where bubbly, slug, chum, and annular flow were identified, only bubbly and chum flow regimes were found for the channels with offset strip fin. However the existence of fin in the channels showed negligible effects on the void fraction. Instead counter-current flow limitations were found to happen at lower air superficial velocity once offset strip fin was introduced in narrow rectangular channels.

In the present experimental study, the flow behavior in a semi-closed two-phase natural circulation loop was examined. Water was used as the working fluid. Heat flux, heater-inlet subcooling, and flow restrictions at the heater-inlet and at the expansion-tank-line were taken as the controlling parameters Six circulation modes were identified by changing heat flux and inlet subcooling conditions ; single-phase continuous circulation, periodic circulation (A), two-phase continuous circulation, and periodic circulations (B), (C), and (D). Among these, the single-phase and two-phase continuous-circulation modes exhibit no significant oscillations and are considered to be stable. Periodic circulation (A) is characterized by the large amplitude two-phase f10w oscillations with the temporal single-phase circulation between them, while periodic circulation (B) featured by the flow oscillations with continuous boiling inside the heater section. Periodic circulation (C) appears to be the manometric oscillation with continuous boiling. Periodic circulation (D) has the longer period than periodic circulation (B) and a substantial amount of liquid flow back and forth through the expansion-tank-line periodically ; this mode is considered the pressure drop oscillation. Parametric study shows that the increases of the inlet- and expansion-tank-line- restrictions and the decrease of inlet subcooling broaden the range of the stable two-phase(continuous circulation) mode.

Horizontal two-phase flow pressure drop within rectangular channels with small gap heights have been examined experimentally. The gap heights range from 0.4mm to 4mm corresponding to aspect ratios(the channel height divided by the width) from 0.02 to 0.2. Water and air were used as the test fluids with the superficial velocity ranges being 0.03-2.39m/s and 0.05-18.7m/s, respectively. The experimental results In rectangular channels were compared with the Lockhart-Martinelli correlation, which are widely used for conventional round tube. The Lockhart-Martinelli correlation turned out to be Inappropriate to represent the present experimental data. In this respect, considering the aspect ratio and gap-height effects, an empirical correlation on two-phase flow pressure drop was proposed. The proposed correlation successfully covers the bubbly, plug, slug and annular flow regimes.

Many investigations have been made to determine the pressure drop and heat transfer characteristics for single phase flow in tape generated swirl flow. But few studies have been carried out to investigate the heat transfer in two component, two phase swirl flow with non-boiling. An experimental study has been conducted to determine the effects of tape twist ratios on two phase convective heat transfer coefficients, pressure drop, and void fraction distribution in a non-boiling, air-water, two phase flow. The flow conditions were both swirl and non swirl flows. The internal diameter of the test section is 42.5mm. The tape twist ratios of pitch to diameter ratio varied from 4.0 to 10.6. The heating conditions were isothermal and nonisothermal. The flow patterns identified with experiments were bubbly, bubbly-slug, slug, and slug-annular flow in up-flow. This study has concluded that no significant difference in void fraction distribution were observed both isothermal and nonisothermal conditions, the pressure drop for two phase flow with twisted tape swirler increase as the tape twist ratio decrease, and that values of two phase heat transfer coefficient increase when the tape twist ratio decreases.

The adiabatic two-phase flow in single rectangular microchannels was studied for different aspect ratios. The working fluids were liquid water and nitrogen gas. The hydraulic diameters of the rectangular microchannels were 490, 322, and $143\;{\mu}m$, and the widths of the microchannels were around $500\;{\mu}m$. The two-phase flow pattern was visualized using a high-speed camera and a long-distance microscope. This study was focused on bubble flow regimes. From the visualized images, the bubble velocity, bubble length, number of bubbles, and void fraction were evaluated. Further, the pressure drop in a single bubble was evaluated by using a unit cell model. The bubble velocity is proportional to the superficial velocity. Further, the relationship between the void fraction and the volumetric quality is linear. The pressure drop in a single elongated bubble is strongly related to the aspect ratio. Finally, the new correlation about the pressure drop of a single elongated bubble in the rectangular microchannel was proposed.

An experimental study was conducted to examine the internal flow patterns inside the mixing chamber of effervescent atomizers. The mixing chamber has the rectangular cross section ($8mm{\times}2mm$) and made of transparent acrylic plate for flow visualization. The parameters tested were the air/liquid ratio (ALR), injection. pressure, and the nozzle orifice diameter. Three different flow regimes were observed; bubbly, annular, and intermittent flows. In the bubbly flow regime, the discharged mixture was disintegrated into drops through the bubble expansion and the ligament breakup. On the other hand, in the annular flow regime, the liquid annulus was disintegrated into small drops by the aerodynamic interaction between the phases due to the high relative velocities between the gas and the liquid. In the intermittent flow regime, the bubble-expansion/ligament-disintegration mode and the annulus-disintegration mode appeared alternatively. The correlations representing the transition criteria between the two-phase flow patterns within the mixing chamber were proposed based on the drift-flux models.
Oceanographic conditions of the coastal water around Chungmu, one of the most important oyster farming areas in Korea, were studied from May to November in 1974 to find out the environmental influence to oyster farming. Six localities, Goseong Bay, Jaran Bay, off Saryangdo, Hansilpo, Tong-yeong Bay and Juklimpo were selected for monthly oceanographic observation and biological sampling. Flood current running westward brings saline water from the south-east and ebb current brings the low salinity water of Jinju Bay into this area. The waters in Juklimpo, Hansilpo and Tong-yeong Bay are slightly cooler and more saline than the waters in Goseong Bay, Jaran Bay and off Saryangdo. The amount of dissolved oxygen is lowest in September and Hansilpo has the least oxygen during summer. Silicate content is lower in waters of Tong-yeong Bay, Juklimpo and off Saryangdo than those of Goseong Bay, Hansilpo and Jaran Bay. Suspended matter in this area ranges from 7.4 to 16.6 mg/l and scarce in Jaran Bay, Juklimpo and off Saryangdo. Chlorophyll a shows large seasonal variation and local fluctuation. Composition of phyto-plankton reveals the difference between the waters of Goseong Bay, Jaran Bay and off Saryangdo and the waters of Hansilpo, Tong-yeong Bay and Juklimpo. The growth of oyster was good in Juklimpo, Tong-yeong Bay and Goseong Bay and worst in Hansilpo. The highest mortality was observed $82\%$ in the waters off Saryangdo.

Domestic Manila clam production has been reduced due to coastline changes and environmental degradation, but aquaculture industry is facing difficulties caused by an increase in imports. It is important to recognize the integral habitat environment in order to do sustainable aquaculture. The habitat environment of Manila clams (Ruditapes philippinarum) is closely related to the productivity of aquaculture farms. This study investigated 3 indexes, survival (sediment type, hydrodynamic), growth (Chlorophyll a, DIN, DIP) and environment (water temperature, dissolved oxygen, sediment chemical oxygen demand, ignition loss) as indicators of habitat characteristics for a tidal flat farm in Geunso Bay (Pado and Beopsan) from June 2015 to May 2016. As a result, Pado (maximums.; sand 48.76 %, hydrodynamic 10.59 cm/s, Chlorophyll a 12.70 ug/L, exposure time 3 hours, DO 18.65 mg/L) had a higher sand content, faster current speed, more abundant nutrients and DO, providing more favorable conditions for Manila clams than Beopsan (maximums.; sand 37.40 %, hydrodynamic 6.02 cm/s, Chlorophyll a 6.41 ug/L, exposure time 7 hour, DO 14.81 mg/L). In fact, Pado showed a higher density than Beopsan. This study considered the habitat environments of Pado and Beopsan to provide a basis for optimal management practices and potential suitable sites in Geunso bay.

Oysters are an important organism, accounting for an average of 76% of shellfish aquaculture production. In this study, optimal habitat was searched for by calculating the Habitat Suitability Index (HSI) using water temperature, salinity, hydrodynamics, DO, SS and Chl.a in Jaran Bay. As a result, the inside of Jaran Bay was found to be a more suitable habitat than the outside with a wide entrance and rapid hydrodynamics. Oyster production and HSI showed a significant correlation (0.710, p<0.05). Hydrodynamics helps the growth of aquaculture organisms, such as food supply through seawater exchange in the bay, which showed a high correlation (0.709, p<0.05) with oyster production. It was found to have a greater effect on habitat suitability than Chl.a. The results of this study are expected to be helpful for the efficient conservation, use and management of coastal fisheries.

An experimental study was carried out in a uniformly heated horizontal tube to examine heat transfer characteristics of pure refrigerants, R134a and R123, and their mixtures during flow boiling. The flow pattern was also observed through tubular sight glasses with an internal diameter of 10 mm located at the inlet and outlet of the test section. Tests were run at a pressure of 0.6 MPa and in the heat flux ranges of 5~100 kW/$m^2$, vapor Quality 0~100 percent and mass velocity of 150-600 kg/$m^2$s. The observed flow patterns were compared to the flow pattern map of Kattan et al., which predicted well the present data over the entire range of mass velocity employed in this study. Heat transfer coefficients of the mixture were less than the interpolated values between pure fluids both in the low quality region where the nucleate boiling is dominant and in the high quality region where the convective evaporation is dominant.
