  • In this paper, we analyzed the dynamic behavior of magnetic fluid in a circular pipe with multiple permanent magnets. Magnetic fluid react on magnetic field against the normal fluid. In other words, magnetic fluid flow has the electromagnetism and fluid mechanics. So magnetic fluids has studied about the fluids properties and experiment. In this paper we studied the magnetic fluids velocity and pressure distribution for the novel type actuator. Because the velocity and pressure distribution is the important element of the magnetic fluids flow. First, we analyzed the Maxwell equation for the multiple permanent magnet and then concluded the governing equations for the magnetic fluid flow using the equation of Navier-Stokes. And, we simulated the dynamic behavior of magnetic fluid flow using the FEM(Finite Element Method). And we illustrated the relation between magnetic field and dynamic behavior of magnetic fluid flow.

  • A flexible riser consists of several layers which have different materials, shapes and functions. The layers designed properly can take the design load safely, and each property of layer provides a complexity of flexible riser. Such complexity/unit-property is an input for global analysis of flexible riser. There are several approaches to calculate the complexity of flexible riser, those are experimental, numerical and theoretical methods. This paper provides a complexity from numerical and theoretical analysis for 2.5 inch flexible riser of which details and the experimental data are already produced under tension, external pressure, and bending moment. In addition, comparison of stiffness and stress are also provided. Especially, analysis of stress could lead to researches on ultimate strength or fatigue strength of flexible risers.

  • In the present work, numerical simulations were conducted on the scaled model of the BWB type UCAV in the subsonic region using ANSYS FLUENT V15. The prediction method was validated through comparison with experimental results and the effect of the twisted wing was investigated. To consider the transitional flow phenomenon, ${\gamma}$ transition model based on SST model was adopted. The coefficients of lift, drag and pitching moment were compared with experimental results and the pressure distribution and streamlines were investigated. The twisted wing decreases the lift force but increases lift-to-drag ratio through delay of stall and leading edge vortex's movement to the front, also the non-linearity of the pitching moment is decreased.

  • The presence of a layer of vegetation which is relevant in river engineering or coastal engineering can modify the overall flow resistance, turbulent characteristics of flow. The patch of vegetation can be modelled and studied in a simple porous cylinder by previous researchers. Fully three dimensional Large Eddy Simulation is conducted in flow past a porous cylinder with a solid volume fraction (SVF) 0f 20%. The porous cylinder of diameter D contains 89 smaller cylinders which diameter is 0.048D in a regular staggered way. Reynolds number based on porous cylinder diameter D and the bulk velocity is 10,000. The large scale shedding is qualitatively similar to the one observed in the non-porous case (SVF=100%). The difference in the dynamics of the separated shear layer and the streamwise flow penetrating through the porous cylinder are compared with those in the non-porous cylinder. In particular, the wake billows form a larger distance from the back of the porous cylinder.

  • Two-dimensional turbulent wake flow behind a circular cylinder is investigated experimentally by suing linearized constant temperature hot wire anemometer. Turbulent fluctuations and mean velocity defects are measured in the rage of 5 dia.- 500 dia. downstream from the cylinder and for the Reynolds numbers of 2000-4000. Results with statistical treatment and digital data processing techniques are as follows: (1) The transition region from near wake to far wake is 30 dia. - 50 dia. downstream from the cylinder. (2) In the near wake, it is found that strong periodic ( f=845Hz) coherent structure exists. (3) It shows that the inertial subrange is 180Hz-2000Hz in self preservation region.

  • The steady-state, incompressible and three-dimensional numerical analysis was carried out to evaluate the internal flow fields characteristics of wind tunnel contractions made by Morel's curve equations. The turbulence model used in this study is a realizable ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ well known to be excellent for predicting the performance of the flow separation and recirculation flow as well as the boundary layer with rotation and strong back pressure gradient. As a results, when the flow passes through the interior space of the analytical models, the flow resistance at the inlet of the plenum chamber is the largest at $Z_m=300$, 400 mm, but the smallest at $Z_m=700mm$. The maximum turbulence intensity in the test section is about 2.5% when calculated by the homogeneous flow, so it is improved by about 75% compared to the 10% turbulence intensity at the inlet of the plenum chamber due to the contraction.

  • In this study, gas flow and temperature distribution in the multi-wafer planetary CVD reactor for the Si epitaxial growth were analyzed. Although the structure of the reactor was simplified as the first step of the study, the three-dimensional analysis was performed taking all these considerations of the revolution of the susceptor and the rotation of satellites into account. From the analyses, a reasonable velocity field and temperature field were obtained. However, it was found that analyses including the upper structure of the reactor were required in order to obtain more realistic temperature results. DCS mole fraction above the satellite surface and the susceptor surface without satellite was compared in order to check the gas species mixing. We found that satellite rotation helped gases to mix in the reactor.

  • Discharge analysis technique for dielectric liquid was presented by using the Finite Element Analysis (FEA) under a lightning impulse incorporating two-phase flow phenomena which described gas and liquid phases in discharge space. Until now, the response of step voltage has been extensively explored, but that of lightning impulse voltage was rarely viewed in the literature. We, therefore, developed an analyzing technique for dielectric liquid in a tip-sphere electrode stressed by a high electric field. To capture the bubble phase, the Heaviside function was introduced mathematically and the material functions for the ionization, dissociation, recombination, and attachment were defined in liquid and bubble, respectively. By using this numerical setup, the molecular dissociation and ionization mechanisms were tested under low and high electric fields resulted from the lightning impulse voltage of 1.2/50 ${\mu}s$. To verify our numerical results, the velocity of electric field wave was measured and compared to the previous experimental results which can be viewed in many papers. Those results had good agreement with each other.

  • Two-dimensional finite element hydrodynamic models for long wave simulation usually adopt fixed land boundary. However moving boundary treatment is strongly required in the simulation of tidal flats for west and south coast of Korea. In this study very efficient and realistic moving boundary treatment is applied by considering incident long wave surface slope. Developed STEP-CM (Superior Two-step Explicit Program for Coastal Modeling) ,shows numerically stable results in comparative study for idealized one-dimensional channel. Real application of the model is done for Chonsu Bay where tidal flats are distributed along the coast. Nonlinear tidal current and tidal flat effects are easily simulated in STEP-CM and resulting circulations are detected around headland of Wonsan Island.

  • A stereoscopic PIV (SPIV) measurement system based on the translation configuration was developed and applied to the flow behind a forward-swept axial-fan. Measurement of three orthogonal velocity components is essential for flow analysis of three-dimensional flows such as flow around a fan or propeller. In this study, the translation configuration was adopted to calculate the out-of-plane velocity component from 2-D PIV data obtained from two CCD cameras. The error caused by the out-of-plane motion was estimated by direct comparison of the 2-D PIV and 3-D SPIV results that measured from the particle images captured simultaneously. The comparison shows that the error ratio is relatively high in the region of higher out-of-plane motion near the axial fan blade. The turbulence intensity measured by the 2-D PIV method is bigger by about 5.8% in maximum compared with that of the 3-D SPIV method. The phase-averaged velocity field results show that the wake behind an axial fan has a periodic flow structure with respect to the blade phase and the characteristic flow structure is shifted downstream in the next phase.
