자동차 HVAC용 Blower Unit 내부 유동장의 PIV 계측 (PIV Measurement of Flow Inside of HVAC Blower Unit)

  • Flow characteristics inside a blower unit of an automotive HVAC module were investigated experimentally using a high-resolution PIV technique. The PIV system consists of a 2-head Nd:YAG laser, a high-resolution CCD camera, optics and a synchronizer. The prototype siroco-fan with forward-curved blades was operated under the same condition of real car. The scroll casing was made transparently for capturing clear flow images. The time-averaged velocity fields were measured in three cross sections. Flow is accelerated with going toward the outer wall of scroll due to centrifugal force and large pressure gradient formed in the region between the fan and the outer casing wall. The presence of the cut-off region and diffusing duct of fan outlet influences largely the flow structure inside the blower unit.

  • An experimental study was performed to evaluate the in-plate evaporation heat transfer and flow characteristics of a evaporator used in automobile. Two test-cores with different heat transfer area, bead-shape and bead-array were tested, A type and B type. For the heat transfer, Nusselt number for B type test-core reaches a value nearly equal to the one for A type test-core, in the whole range of equivalent Reynolds number. But, for the same mass flow rate of refrigerant, hA for B type test-core becomes higher with the increase of the mass quality of refrigerant than for A type test-core. In a flow visualization experiment, the wake zone of refrigerant circulating at u-turn position of plate is observed.

램프를 이용한 측 추력기 성능향상에 관한 연구 (A Study for Performance Enhancement of Side Jet using a Ramp)

  • 초음속 유동하에서 측 추력기의 후방에 램프를 설치하였을 경우의 유통 현상을 실험 및 수치해석을 이용하여 해석하였다. 실험적인 방법으로, 가시화방법으로는 쉴리렌, 압력 측정을 위한 방법으로 압력 탭 (Pressure Tap), Pressure Sensitive Paint를 이용하였으며, 수치해석을 위하여 AeroSoft사의 GASP ver. 4.0을 사용하였다. 실험조건은 자유류의 흐름이 마하수 4 측 추력기와 자유류의 압력비가 532 이었으며 GASP을 사용하여 3D 램프형상에 대한 고찰을 하였다. 위의 모든 결과들은 후방의 램프가 없을 경우와 비교를 통하여 램프를 장착하였을 경우 수직력의 감소없이 피칭다운 모멘트가 70% 정도 감소함을 확인하였다.

  • 본 논문은 초음속 제트에서 발생하는 천음속 공명현상에 대한 실험적 연구를 기술한다. 초음속 노즐이 매우 낮은 압력비에서 작동될 때, 노즐내의 확대부에서 충격파가 발생한다. 천음속 공명현상은 이러한 충격파의 불안정한 진동에 의한 강한 음파의 발생에 기인한다. 제트 유동장은 쉴리렌 광학장치를 이용하여 가시화 하였다. 제트유동의 천음속 공명현상을 조사하기 위하여, 음향측정을 수행하였다. 천음속 공명 현상의 음향특성은 스크리치 톤과 비교하였다. 본 연구에서 얻어진 결과에 의하면, 스크리치 톤의 주파수와는 달리, 천음속 톤의 주파수는 노즐 압력비가 증가할수록 증가한다.

세차제트노즐 연소기의 유동특성 (Fluidic Characteristics of Precessing Jet Nozzle Combustor)

  • 많은 산업체들은 현재 연소기의 열효율을 증가시키기 위해 노력하고 있으며, 증가되는 NOx 발생으로 환경적인 규제에 직면하고 있다. 우리는 이렇게 열효율 증가와 NOx 발생 감소를 동시에 해결할 수 있도록 새로운 방법을 연구하였다. 이 새로운 개념은 확실히 NOx와 같은 오염물질을 절감시키며, 동시에 반경방향 열전달을 증가시키는 것으로 알려져 있고 이를 세차제트 연소기라고 부른다. 이러한 세차제트 노즐의 특징은 가스터빈의 연소효율의 증가로 이어질 수 있을 것이다. 기본적인 세차제트 노즐에 대한 특설파악을 위해 FLUENT를 이용한 수치해석, 레이저를 이용한 가시화 시험을 진행하였고, 노즐단면에서의 속도분포를 다른 논문의 실험결과와 비교하였다. Centerbody가 있는 경우 세차현상이 잘 일어났고 노즐 출구에서의 확산각이 증가함을 확인하였다.

  • A heat exchanging system employing the impinging air jet is still widely used In the various fields due to its inherent merits that include the easiness in engineering applications and the high heat and/or mass transfer characteristics. The purpose of this study is to investigate the enhancement of heat transfer and flow characteristics by placing a turbulence promoters in front of heat exchanging surface. In this study, a series of circular rods are placed at the upstream of a flat plate heat exchanger that is located at potential core region(H/W=2) of a two-dimensional impinging air jet. Heat transfer enhancement is achieved by inserting turbulence promoter that results in the flow acceleration and disturbance of boundary layer. The average Nusselt number of the flat plate with the turbulence promoters is found to be around 1.42 times higher than that of the flat plate without the turbulence promoters. Based on the results of flow visualization with a smoke wire, it is confirmed that the heat transfer enhancement is caused by the flow separation and disturbance of boundary layer by inserting the turbulence promoter.

  • Passenger safety is one of the most important considerations in the purchase of an automobile. A curtain-type air bag is increasingly adapted in deluxe cars for protecting passengers from the danger of side clash. Inflator housing is a main part of the curtain-type air bag system for supplying high-pressure gases to pump up the air bag-curtain. Although the inflator housing is fundamental in designing a curtain-type air bag system, flow information on the inflator housing is very limited. In this study, we measured instantaneous velocity fields of a high-speed flow ejecting from the inflator housing using a dynamic PIV system. From the velocity field data measured at a high frame-rate, we evaluated the variation of the mass flow rate with time. From the instantaneous velocity fields of flow ejecting from the airbag inflator housing in the initial stage, we can see a flow pattern of broken shock wave front and its downward propagation. The flow ejecting from the inflator housing was found to have large velocity fluctuations and the maximum velocity was about 700m/s. The velocity of high-speed flow was decreased rapidly and the duration of high-speed flow over 400m/s was maintained only to 30ms. After 100ms, there was no perceptible flow.

대형 LPG엔진용 피스톤 형상 및 흡기포트 선회비 최적화를 위한 가시화엔진내 스월유동특성 해석 (A Study on the Characteristics of Swirl Flow in Transparent Engine with Different Swirl Ratio and Piston Configuration for Heavy-duty LPG Engine)

  • The configuration of intake port and piston is a dominant factor of inlet air flow and mixture formation in an engine cylinder, resepectively. This study has analyzed intake port and piston characteristics for swirl flow of a heavy-duty LPG engine. As an available technology to optimize intake port, the steady flow rig test has been applied for measuring swirl ratio and mean flow coefficient. And we measured the mean velocity and turbulence intensity of swirl flow under motoring condition in transparent engine cylinder by backward scattering LDV system. From these results, the piston and cylinder head with a good evaluated swirl flow characteristics were developed and adapted fur a 11L heavy-duty engine using the liquid phase LPG injection (LPLI) system. The obtained results are expected to be a fundamental data for developing intake port and piston.

원형 선회류제트 충돌면에서의 유동 및 열전달 특성 (Flow and Heat Transfer Characteristics of Impinging Single Circular Swirl Jet on Flat Plate)

  • The experimental study on flow and heat transfer characteristics was conducted to investigate and to compare the performance of swirl jet by a twisted tape as a swirl generator with the performance of impinging single circular jet in fully developed flow tube. The effects of jet Reynolds number(Re=8700, 13800, 20000, 26500), dimensionless distance of nozzle-to-plate(H/d=2, 4, 6, 8) and swirl ratio(S=0.11, 0.23, 0.30) of the jet on the local and average Nusselt number have been examined. Measurements of local heat transfer rate and flow patterns on the jet impinging plate were used naphthalene sublimation technique and flow visualization technique respectively. Mean velocity and turbulence intensity of the jet along the centerline were measured. With a twisted tape in the nozzle exit, average Nusselt number at the around area of stagnation point were higher than those without the twisted tape at H/d=2, 4 and with the increase of Reynolds number. With a twisted tape in the nozzle, in the case of H/d=2, Re=26500 and S=0.11, maximum local Nusselt number at the region of y/d=0 and x/d=0.44 was obtained.

O-ring 을 이용한 원주의 저항감소에 관한 실험적 연구 (Drag Reduction of a Circular Cylinder With O-rings)

  • The flow around a circular cylinder was controlled by attaching O-rings to reduce drag force acting on the cylinder. Four experimental models were tested in this study; one smooth cylinder of diameter D (D=60mm) and three cylinders fitted with O-rings of diameters d=0.0167D, 0.05D and 0.067D with pitches of PPD=1D, 0.5D and 0.25D. The drag force, mean velocity and turbulent intensity profiles in the near wake behind the cylinders were measured for Reynolds numbers based on the cylinder diameter in the range of $Re_D=7.8{\times}10^3{\sim}1.2{\times}10^5$. At $Re_D=1.2{\times}10^5$, the cylinder fitted with O-rings of d=0.0167D in a pitch interval of 0.25D shows the maximum drag reduction of about 5.4%, compared with the smooth cylinder. The drag reduction effect of O-rings of d=0.067D is not so high. For O-ring circulars, as the Reynolds number increases, the peak location of turbulence intensity shifts downstream and the peak magnitude is decreased. Flow field around the cylinders was visualized using a smoke-wire technique to see the flow structure qualitatively. The size of vortices and vortex formation region formed behind the O-ring cylinders are smaller, compared with the smooth cylinder.
