Flow Characteristics of Two Types of Overhung Compressor Volute for Automobile Turbocharger (자동차용 터보차저의 오버헝 압축기 볼류트의 두 형태에 대한 유동장 특성)

  • The flow characteristics of two types of overhung compressor volutes for automobile turbochargers were analyzed numerically using commercial software. For obtaining high performance from a volute, it is necessary that the volute have a high pressure recovery coefficient and a low loss coefficient. We investigated the flow characteristics of two types of overhung compressor volutes with a fixed diffuser inlet angle of $24^{\circ}$ and a mass flow rate of 0.055 kg/s. The first type is a volute with one-arc cross section (type 1) and the second type is with three-arc cross section (type 2). Our results showed that between the two types of volutes, type 2 had the higher pressure recovery coefficient and the lower loss coefficient along the entire angular position.

  • Investigations into cavity flows have been conducted for decades now, most of them being about zero-pressure-gradient flows entering a cavity on a straight wall. However, the flow over curved walls in real-life situations has not been fully investigated. As cavity flows on curved walls exert centrifugal force, these walls are likely to possess different features from straight walls. To verify this possibility, this study investigated cavity flows on curved walls. Using numerical method, the effect of two variables, namely, radius of curvature on a curved wall and inlet Mach number, were investigated for subsonic and supersonic cavity flows. The result demonstrates that the value of the peak pressure generated inside the cavity increases with the decrease in the radius of curvature on a curved wall or an increase in the inlet Mach number. The total pressure loss in the cavity also results in an increase in the cavity drag.

  • 급속 열처리 시스템내에서의 비정상상태 온도분포, 가스유동형태, 웨이퍼내 열응력등을 여러 가지 작동조건하에서 2차원 유한 차분법으로 계산하였다. 계산결과는 실험에서 얻은 에피성장률 데이터와 비교 검증하였다. RTpp내 가스 유동이나 온도분포는 압력 및 주위 구성요소에 크게 의존하는 반면, 웨이퍼의 온도분포는 wafer edge loss가 큰 고온에서 온도 불균일도가 가장 크다. 저온에서는 대류에 의한 열 손실이 웨이퍼내의 온도 불균일도에 큰 영향을 미치고 있다. 웨이퍼상의 열응력을 가장 크게 받는 시점은 transient condition에서 나타났다.

  • HP Workstation 및 IBM PC에서 사용 가능한 부수로 해석 코드 MATRA $\alpha$-버전을 개발하였다. 이 코드는 정확도 향상 및 사용자 편리를 위해 COBRA-IV-I코드에 비해 여러가지 기능들이 추가되었으며, 코드의 적용 범위를 신형원자로의 비정방형 집합체 노심에 확장할 수 있도록 압력손실 모형 등이 개선되었다. 또한 이상 유동장에서의 예측 정확도 향상을 위하여 부수로 잔의 횡방향 전달 모형을 개선하였다. 코드의 예측 성능을 평가하기 위해 세 중류의 집합체 유동분포 및 엔탈피 분포 실험 자료와 비교하였으며, 그 결과 기존의 COBRA-IV-I코드보다 향상된 결과를 보였다.

A Computational Study for the Discharge Coefficient of a Film-Cooling Hole (Film-Cooling Hole의 유출계수에 관한 수치해석적 연구)

  • Computational study using the 2-dimensional, compressible, Navier-Stokes equations is performed to predict the discharge coefficient of air flow through a film-cooling hole. In order to investigate the effect of internal/external flows on discharge coefficient, the present computational results which are obtained for three flow cases, only external flow, only internal flow, and no flow, are compared with experimental ones. It is found that the computational results predict the discharge coefficient of the film-cooling hole in a reasonable accuracy and the external crossflow reduces the discharge coefficient, while the internal crossflow increases the discharge coefficient in a range of momentum flux ratio $I_{c-jet}$ > 1 due to the total pressure loss and boundary layer effect.

  • Through a preliminary design process, four design candidates for a 1.4MW class partial admission turbine have been chosen and the numerical analyses using a frozen rotor method are applied to estimate their performance. Each flow analysis result was compared with others and the optimum design was selected. Flow characteristics in the passages and some types of losses induced by shocks and wakes were found from calculation results. A new rotor blade was redesigned based on these calculations and this result is compared with previous one through flow analysis.

  • 자동차 및 유체기계의 흡기계나 배기계에 사용되는 소음기의 음향 성능은 전달손실로 기계성능은 배압으로 표현된다. 유체가 흐르는 관 사이의 임피던스 부정합을 이용하는 반사형 소음기의 경우, 내부 유로에 천공을 주어 음향 감쇠를 시키거나 유동을 안정시키는 경우가 많다. 본 연구에서는 동심관형 공명기의 내부 관에 존재하는 천공의 분포양상이 공명기 내부의 유동장에 어떤 영향을 미치며, 그 유동장의 변화에 따라서 소음기의 성능에 어떠한 영향을 미치게 되는지를 고찰하였다. (중략)

  • Passive control of the shock wave/turbulent boundary-layer interaction control utilizing slotted plates over a cavity has been carried out. Effect of various slot configurations on the characteristics of the interactions are tested. Pitot/wall surface pressure distributions and flow visualizations including Schlierens and interference fringe patterns over a thin oil-film have been obtained at the downstream of the shock interactions. It was found that the interaction control by a certain slot-configuration could lead a reduction of the total pressure loss through the shock wave, however, the boundary layer thickness became thicker as compared with the case of no control.

  • An application of the cross correlation technique by adopting ultrasonic waves for water pipe flow measuring purpose is studied. It is a non-intrusive flow metering method by determining the time of the flight of the flow turbulent noise and its non-obstructing mechanism enables to reduce process energy loss due to the flowmeter obstruction. A digital signal processor for the purpose of the real time Fourier transform was employed for the fast time calculation of the flow velocity. The overall accuracy was found as about $1\%$ for flow velocities from 0.25 m/s up to 16 m/s and for the pipe inside diameters from 50mm to 248mm. The cross correlation technique can be used for the tap water utility including most common liquid flows.
