Experimental Study of Natural Convection from a Slightly Inclined Cylinder with Uniform Heat Flux Immersed in Cold Pure Water (저온의 순수물속에 잠겨있는 약간 경사진 균일 열유속 원기등에 의한 자연대류의 실험적 연구)

  • Natural convection from a slightly inclined circular cylinders immersed in quiescent cold pure water was studied experimentally. The experiment was carried out for circular cylinders with uniform heat flux ranging from $100W/m^{2} to 800 W/m^{2}$ and inclined angle ranging from horizontal $({\phi}=0^{\circ}) to 15^{\circ}$. The flow fields around cylinder were visualized and heat transfer characteristics investigated by measuring the surface temperatures for each case. As the results, it is shown that flow patterns are changed consecutively through the sequence of steady state downflow, unsteady state flow and steady state upflow with increasing heat flux. At the same inclined angle, as heat flux increases, the average Nusselt number decreases and then increases. At the same heat flux, as inclined angle increases, the average Nusselt number decreases.

  • 세라믹캔들필터 집진장치의 형상 설계 시 장치내의 유동장의 균일도와 필터 표면으로의 입자 부하 현상이 중요한 설계 요소로 다루어지고 있다. 장치 내부의 유동 조건을 조절하여 필터 표면상에 도달하는 입자의 농도를 낮추거나 균일하게 유지시킬 경우, 부착된 입자층 두께의 성장으로 인한 압력손실의 증가율을 줄일 수 있고 이로 인하여 탈진 주기 또한 감소시킬 수 있다. 탈진 조작의 저감으로 인하여 필터의 수명 증대로 필터의 교체 시기를 연장시킬 수 있으므로 세라믹캔들필터 집진장치의 운전 및 유지보수비의 저감을 이룰 수 있다.   • 유동 교란에 의하여 균일유동이 아닌 자유류가 항공기 날개 표면을 지나면 공력 계수들이 균일 자유류 유동과는 달라진다. 예를 들어, 항공기들의 편대 비행에서 앞의 항공기가 생성한 후류가 뒷 항공기에 영향을 주고, 두 개의 주익을 가지는 Tandem Wing 항공기의 경우 첫 번째 주익에서 발생된 후류가 두 번째 주익의 공력에 영향을 미친다. 본 연구는 NACA0012 익형의 앞쪽에 또 다른 익형을 배치하여 앞 쪽의 익형에서 발생한 후류가 뒤의 익형에 미치는 영향을 익형 사이의 거리에 따라 분석하였다. 앞쪽의 익형에서 발생한 압력계수와 뒤쪽에서 발생한 압력계수의 비교를 통해 후류의 효과가 어떤 영향을 끼치는지 확인 하였고, 두 익형 사이의 거리가 2c일 때 후류의 영향이 거의 없음을 확인 하였다.

  • The unsteady problems of ships in waves are analyzed by a low order panel method with Rankine source. Considering the basic flow as the uniform incoming flow(so called Kelvin flow) and also the double body flow. the solutions to satisfy the governing equation with the boundary conditions are obtained, and these two results are compared. The hydrodynamic coefficients for the modified Wigley hull and Series 60($C_B=0.7$) are computed and compared with the experimental data available and also other computational results published. It is shown that the computational results by the double body approximation agree well with the experimental results compared with those by the uniform Kelvin flow approximation.

  • The injection uniformity of the fuel manifold in a liquid rocket engine has been analyzed with dividing plates to improve the cooling performance at the face plate. Three dimensional computational fluid dynamics analysis has been performed to compare the injection uniformity for 5 candidate designs and has been verified to compare with the measured data for the optimal manifold design. For the case I and II, the coolant mass flux increases as the whole working fluid is enforced to flow under the dividing plate. The injection uniformity decreases due to the variation of mass flux at the end of dividing plate and the concentration of mass flow rate at the center of manifold. However case III and IV have uniform injection performance due to reduced mass flux concentration as the coolant can flow along both upper passage and lower passage of the dividing plate. Among the candidate designs, case IV is thought to be the optimal dividing plate with regard to cooling performance and injection uniformity.

  • The efficiency of a catalytic converter depends on the flow distribution across a system's chemically active substrate. If irregularities or non-uniform flow patterns exist, the system's conversion efficiency decreases, whereas the manufacturing cost increases. Therefore, it is important to analyze the internal flow of a catalytic converter. In this study, flow pattern measurements along the minor axis were recorded at the mid and exit planes of a ceramic honeycomb catalytic converter at flow rates of 37.8 l/s and 94.4 l/s. Flow distributions of the measurement plans were compared with an automotive company's computed velocity profiles. Measurements along the minor axis showed uneven velocity profiles. The ${\upsilon}$-velocity components between the honeycomb bricks were small but somewhat erratic opposite the intake side of the converter, however, they became flatter in measurements recorded near the intake entrance. For almost all velocity values, the computer model suggested velocities greater than the measured values.

  • 본 논문에서는 시작엔진 제작에 앞서 CFD기법을 이용하여 디젤 엔진의 블록과 헤드에서의 냉각수 유동 특성을 분석하고자 하였다. 유동 해석 결과 1번 실린더를 거쳐 4번 실린더까지 유동이 원활하게 흐르는 것을 확인 할 수 있었다. 이는 전체적인 냉각수 분배에 영향을 미쳐 엔진 설계 시 발생할 수 있는 3, 4번 실린더의 과열을 방지 할 수 있을 것으로 판단된다. 또한, 열전달 계수가 전체적으로 균일하게 분포되어 냉각수의 열전달 특성이 양호할 것으로 판단된다.

  • 본 논문에서는 전산유체해석 기법을 이용하여 저소음ㆍ고효율 공조기의 입구형상에 대한 유동해석을 하였다. 공조기 입구형상을 결정하는 여러 설계변수가 입구와 출구의 유동조건과 유로의 압력손실에 미치는 영향을 평가하였다. 이를 바탕으로 입구와 출구유동의 균일성과 압력손실의 최소화를 만족하는 최적의 설계 변수를 결정하여 공조기의 최적설계를 달성하였다.

Improved Closure Approximation for Numerical Simulation of Fiber Orientation in Fiber-Reinforced Composite (단섬유 보강 복합재료에서의 섬유배향의 수치모사를 위한 개선된 근사모델)

  • Improved version of previous 'Orthotropic' closure approximation, termed 'ORW' has been numerically developed using new homogeneous flow data. Previous 'Orthotropic' closure approximation, i.e., ORF or ORL showed non-physical oscillation for interaction coefficient $C_1$<0.001 at simple shear flow. It also shows non-physcial oscillation and under-prediction compared with 'Distribution Function Calculation' at non-homogeneous flow of center-gated disk. These phenomena are mainly due to the flow data of 'Distribution Function Calculation' which were used for least-square optimization. ORW obtained by fitting flow data of low interaction coefficient does not show non-physical oscillation and results in reasonably good behaviors at non-homogeneous flows as well as homogeneous flows. Fitting function forms have not been found to improve overall behaviors. It has been found that considering all the eigenvalues of orientation tensor (including the third eigenvalues) might end up with a better closure approximation than just considering the first and second eigenvalues. It is, however, very important and yet difficult to select appropriate function forms of eigenvalues. Numerical simulation including coupling and in-plane velocity gradient effects were performed for injection mold filing process with a film-gated strip and a center-gated disk using ORW and various other closure approximations for comparisons. Although ORW is in excellent agreement with 'Distribution Function Calculation', the predicted results seem to have consistent error in comparison with experimental data. The diffusivity term with constant interaction coefficient might have to be further investigated in order to accurately describe orientation states.

  • This study is on SCR reactor, NOx reduction system in Marine that has been an issue nowadays. Especially design data was obtained by numerical on flow uniformity that is one of the design factor in SCR reactor. Also pressure drop on catalyst size inserted into SCR reactor was compared by experiment and numerical analysis. S/W, numerical analysis used for this study was confirmed that the result of numerical analysis used STAR-CCM+, common use CFD code, pressure drop on catalyst is not big different from the result of numerical analysis. In addition, degree of uniformity of liquid on SCR reactor was over 0.9. Whereas it was assured that degree of uniformity of liquid was changed depends on the shape of pipe at the entrance of SCR.
