  • In this paper, the stable region for missile guidance loop employing an integrated proportional navigation guidance law is derived. The missile guidance loop is formulated as a closed-loop control system consisting of a linear time-invariant feed-forward block and a time-varying feedback gain. By applying the circle criterion to the system, a bound for the time of flight up to which stability can be assured is established as functions of flight time. Less conservative results, as compared to the result by Popov criterion, are obtained.

  • In this study a practical guidance law for missile guidance loop is established by considering the missile dynamics. Assuming the attitude controlled missile, several optimal guidance laws according to missile dynamical characteristics are derived by applying the optimal control theory and an effective guidance law in practical point is presented.

  • A missile with a strapdown seeker should properly estimate line-of-sight(LOS) rate using its attitude information and the look angle of the seeker because LOS rate information in an inertial coordinate system, which is used for a proportional navigation(PN) homing guidance, can not be obtained directly. However, an unnecessary feedback loop(Parasite Loop) is formed in the guidance and control loop, and it may cause the guidance performance degradation or even the unstability of the system(Parasite Effect). This paper presents estimation methods for the LOS rate information and effective ways to minimize the parasite effect using Routh-Hurwitz stability criterion. Various numerical simulations are also included to verify the proposed methods.

  • In this paper, we propose a guidance filter to estimate line of sight rate with strapdown seeker measurements and INS(Inertial Navigation System) information. The measurements of proposed guidance filter consisted of the LOS(Line of Sight) and relative position that can be calculated with the seeker's measurements, INS information and known target position, also the filter is based on an asynchronous filter to use outputs of the two sensors that are out of synchronous and period. Through the proposed filter, we can reduce the effect on parasitic loop that can be caused by using large time delay seeker and improve the estimation performance.

  • The Divert and Attitude Control System(DACS) used in high-altitude engagements is expensive and complex. In this paper, we design a high-altitude terminal guidance and control loop of guided-missile equipped with a Thrust Vector Control(TVC) that is less expensive and simpler than DACS. The proposed system utilizes a quaternion feedback control technique to track the thrust attitude command converted from the acceleration command of true proportional navigation guidance. The performance analysis of the proposed terminal guidance and control loop is conducted through engagement simulations against ballistic targets at a high altitude.

  • In a bank-to-turn(BTT) missile, if a 2-gimbaled seeker was stabilized using a 2-axis rate gyro mounted along its primary axis, the change of line of sight(LOS) measured by the seeker would be induced by rolling effects due to bank-to-turn(BTT) steering as well as an actual change. It is observed that the body-coupled effects in a homing loop of BTT missile are mainly concerned with the spurious target maneuver and the coupling due to the rate gyro misalignments. In this paper, we formulate a simple linear BTT homing loop model with seeker model including each body-coupling. With the model, we analyze the effects of the couplings on the homing loop stability, and propose a direct linear compensator for the coupling to recover the stability.

  • This paper presents polar converting logic(PCL) of BTT missiles against slowly moving or stationary targets. A guidance commands expressed in rectangular coordinates must be converted in the form of polar coordinates for BTT control. Since conventional PCL has nonlinear and discontinuous function, the missiles may lose controllability when pitch acceleration command equals to zero. Further, roll coupling may have a serious unstabilizing influence on homing guidance with two gimbals seeker. In this paper, a linear homotopy equation is introduced to improve the controllability and a command following performance at midcourse phase. We also design a PCL which is less sensitive to pitch acceleration command so that it may improve the stability of the homing loop. To substantiate our conclusion, results of the computer simulation have been illustrated.

  • For a missile with a strapdown seeker, line-of-sight rate for guidance is obtained by compensating the look angle rate from the strapdown seeker by the body angular rate from rate gyros. However, the body angular rate from rate gyros has different signal properties when it compared to the body angular rate implicitly included in the look angle rate. Typically this discrepancy causes instability of homing loop. In this paper, we propose a design method of homing loop where seeker delay is compulsively placed in the output signal of the rate gyros for accordance of both body rates. Also, PID control loop is considered for obtaining stabilized guidance command even though uncertainties of seeker delay is associated. The stability analysis for the linear homing loop before and after the compensation has been done. The stability and performance of the designed terminal homing loop is verified through full nonlinear 6-DOF simulations.

  • The High maneuver missiles use various interfaces and high speed guidance and control loop. Hardware-in-the-Loop(HWIL) simulation control system, therefore, should have high performance computing power and hardware interface capabilities, and should be developed using IT technology with which real time operating system, embedded system, data communication technology, and real time hardware control are integrated. This paper suggests the control system design techniques, such as a system hardware configuration, a job distribution algorithm for high performance multi-processors, a real time calculation and control mechanism, inter-processor communication mechanism, and a real time data acquisition technique, to perform the HWIL simulation for high maneuver missile system.

  • The radome boresight error degrades the microwave seeker ability and the missile guidance performance. It increases the miss distance, also. This paper propose a method of radome boresight error measurement and compensation. The compensation method consist of radome analysis and radome compensation. In the radome analysis stage, we can know that the electromagnetic characteristics distorted by radome. In the compensation stage, the look-up table is built and used for compensation. The test uses a FMS(Flight motion simulator) and adjusts the FMS setup error for more accuracy. The result shows that not using an elaborate radome measurement equipment, the radome boresight error is well compensated easily.
