The appearence of organochlorine pesticide residues in some marinealgae, e.g. Sargassum thunbergii, Ulva pertusa, Codium fragile, and Enteromorpha linza, collected from various sites of Kwang Yang Bay, southern coast of Korea, was surveyed through the year from May 1974 to March 1975. The residues were found to appear in the order to July>September>May>November≒March≒January; $\alpha$-BHC>heptachlor epoxide>dieldrin>aldrin>endrin; and in the range of 0-93 $\mu\textrm{g}$/kg dry matter.
The appearance of organochlorine insecticides in 43 samples of refined vegetable oils including rapeseed, rice bran, sesame, perilla and corn oils produced in Korea in 1976 was investigated. Residue levels varied depending on the pesticide, oil source and production area. Gas-liquid chromatographic techniques were used to detect and quantify the presence of heptachlor, its epoxide, BHC, aldrin, endrin and DDT residues.
Present investigation is undertaken to evaluate residues of organochlorine pesticides and PCBs in river sediments and cultivated soils by GLC. Main sampling areas chosen were three industrial estates, Suwon, Iri and Kumi. Samples consist of river sediments and cultivated soils, in Suwon, Iri and Chilgok, which are likely to be accumulated with PCBs from nearby factories. Organochlorine pesticide residues were found in all sediments and soil samples while no PCBs residue was detected in all samples analyzed. The pesticide residues were greatest in the Suwon and least in Chilgok soils. p,p'-DDT and BHC isomers $({\alpha}-,\;and\;{\gamma}-)$ were found in all soil samples. p,p'-DDT, at the range of 0.006-0.840 ppm, was the most abundant residues among organochlorine insecticides.
Samples of water, soil, and sediment were taken from 10 streams near Andong, Korea in May 2004. To assess the degree of environmental pollution of each stream, chemical pollutants such as total notrogen (T-N), total phosphorus (T-P), chemical oxygen demand (COD), heavy metals, organophosphorus pesticides, organochlorine pesticides, and dioxin-like PCB congeners were analyzed by standard process tests or U.S. EPA methods. In addition, biomarkers originated from insect immune systems of beet armyworm, Spodoptera exigua, were used to analysis of the environmental samples. Except Waya-chun stream showing T-N content of 9.12 mg/L, most streams were contaminated with relatively low levels of overall pollutants in terms of T-N, T-P, and COD, compared to their acceptable environmental levels designated by the Ministry of Environment. Contents of Pb and Cd in samples of each stream were much lower than environmentally permissible levels. However, several times higherconcentrations of Pb and Cd were found in locations at Mi-chun, Kilan-chun, and Hyunha-chun streams, in comparison with other streams. Diazinon, parathion, and phenthoate compounds among organophosphorus pesticides were detected as concentrations of 0.19, 0.40, and $1.13\;{\mu}g/g$, respectively, from soil sample collected in the vicinity of Mi-chun stream. On the other hand, 16 organochlorine pesticides and 12 dioxin-like PCB congeners, known as endocrine disrupting chemicals, selected in this study were not found above the limit of detection. Biomarker analyses using insect immune responses indicated that Waya-chun stream was suspected as exposure to environmental pollutants. Limitation and compensation of both environmental analysis techniques are discussed.
The appearance of organochlorine pesticide residues in shellfish, seaweed, mud and water samples collected from south coast of Korean peninsula in September 1974 was surveyed to obtain the following results. 1) The residues in shellfish samples were found to be in the orders of Choongmoo > Yeosoo > Busan > Mokpo area, top-shell >short-necked clam > mussel > hard clam > red-shell, aldrin > ${\alpha}-BHC$ > heptachlor> ${\gamma}-BHC$ > dieldrin > heptachlor epoxide > endrin and in the range of $0-49\;{\mu}g/kg$ edible fresh muscle. 2) The residues in seaweed samples from Wando area were found to be in the orders of tangle > green laver > laver, ${\alpha}-BHC$ > ${\gamma}-BHC$ > aldrin > dieldrin > heptachlor > heptachlor epoxide > endrin and in the range of $0-60\;{\mu}g/kg$ dry matter. 3) The residues in water samples were found to be in the orders of Yeongsan River > Nakdong River > Seomjin River > Choongmoo shellfish farm, ${\alpha}-BHC$ > ${\gamma}-BHC$ > aldrin > heptachlor > dieldrin > heptachlor epoxide > endrin and in the range of $0-180\;{\mu}g/kl$ while those in mud samples were in the order of ${\alpha}-BHC$ > ${\gamma}-BHC$> aldrin > dieldrin > heptachlor > heptachlor epoxide > endrin and in the range of $0.7-18\;{\mu}g/kg$ dry matter. It should be noted that BHC contents of water samples from Yeongsan and Nakdong rivers were far above the recommended environmental levels in USA.

As well as arising the concern about pesticides known as a Carcinogenic or endocrine disorder substrates, magnitude was increased of reducing pesticides in soil or water. In this work, removals of residual pesticides on surface of solid phase were attempted by the photooxidation process with hydrogen peroxide. The optimum conditions for the removals of benomyl (carbamatic pesticide) chlorothalonil (Organochoric pesticide) were 350nm UV wavelegth and 20% (v/v) hydrogen peroxide solution as oxidant. Removals are negligible when UV radiation or the supply of hydrogen peroxide are solely applied on the target compoounds. Removal rates of the pesticides are accelerated by UV radiation with hydrogen addition. After 20 min of the treatment, about $2{\mu}g/cm^2$ of benomyl and $1,88{\mu}g/cm^2$ of chlorothalonil were disappeared on the surface of the solid phase.
The appearance of organochlorine pesticide residues in water, mud and clam (Meretrix lusoria) samples from the lower basin of Seomjin River around the Kwangyang Bay was surveyed to obtain the following results. 1) The concentrations of pesticide residues in the water samples were found to be in the order of dieldrin> aldrin>${\alpha}-BHC$> ${\gamma}-BHC$> endrin> heptachlor> heptachlor epoxide and in the range of $0-48ng/{\ell}$. 2) The concentrations of pesticide residues in the mud samples were found to be in the order of aldrin> dieldrin>${\alpha}-BHC$> ${\gamma}-BHC$> heptachlor> heptachlor epoxide> endrin, ranging $0-10\;{\mu}g/kg$ (dry matter), and to be more in lower layer than in upper layer. 3) The concentrations of pesticide residues in the clam samples were found to be in the of order heptachlor> ${\gamma}-BHC$> ${\alpha}-BHC$> aldrin> heptachlor epoxide> dieldrin> endrin and in the range of $0.1-18\;{\mu}g/kg$ (edible fresh muscle). The level reached the highest in 3-year old clams and sharply deceased thereafter.
Six insecticides, monocrotophos (24%, Lq), milbemectin (1%, Ec), tebufenpyrad (10%, Ec), propargite (30%, Wp), dicofol (42%, Ec), and fenpropathrin (5%, Ec) were studied for their $LC_{50}s$ to local two-spotted spider mite (TSSM) strains collected at apple orchards in Chungju, Kunwi and Sobo in Korea. Monocrotophos and fenpropathrin were not effective due to resistance development, but milbemectin, tebufenpyrad, dicofol and propargite were effective to TSSM. $LC_{50}$ values to TSSM strains showed the same distribution pattern among apple orchards. However, TSSMs from different apple orchard were clustered into different groups.
Citrus fruits harvested in 1979 were collected from markets scattered in Jeju and Seogwipo area on Jeju island and also from citrus orchards with five, ten, fifteen, twenty, and thirty years of cultivation history. Organophorous insecticides and organochloro acaricides in the pulp of fruits were analysed by gas liquid chromatograph. It was found that EPN and Kelthane were most significant residues found in the citrus fruits in terms of both level and frequency of occurrence. Among citrus fruits collected from various markets, EPN was detected in 28% of the fruits samples in the range of 0.009 to 0.025 ppm, while Kelthane, at lower level, was found in all citrus fruits in the range of trace to 0.007 ppm. Residue levels of citrus fruits from orchards of various cultivated periods, in general, confirmed those of the fruits collected from commercial markets. However, residues of Kelthane in the citrus fruits tended to increase with orchards having longer cultivation history.
There experiment were carried out to analyze for pesticide residues in 4 kinds of dried fruits collected in northern area of Seoul in 2007~2009. Total of 213 samples were analyzed. According to the results, 20 kinds of residual pesticides were detected. Residual pesticides were detected in 66 samples (31.0%) and 8 samples (3.8%) exceeded maximum residue limits (MRL). Cypermethrin, fenvalerate, endosulfan, chlorpyrifos, bifenthrin were detected frequently. The Pesticide types which were detected in dried furits were revealed in order of pyrethroid > organophosphate > organochloride > dicarboximide. Detection rates of dried fruits were dried chinese matrimony vein (53.0%), dried jujube (34.9%), dried rubi fructus (7.6%) and dried maximowiczia chinensis (4.6%). Based on these results, we investigated the risk assessment from amount of residual pesticide in dried jujube. Range of %ADI were 0.0001~0.0081%, but the value has not effected on human health.
