  • The characteristics of flood damages have been increasingly strengthened and take the form of unpredictable and unusual weather phenomena caused by climate change and climate anomalies. To prevent inundation damage caused by breach of hydraulic structure such as dam or levee, and trouble of drainage of inner basin, the prediction necessity of flood inundation area, flood risk analysis, and drawing flood risk maps have been on the rise, and the national flood risk maps have been produced. In this study, the quantitative flood vulnerability analysis was performed, which represents population living within flood-affected areas, types of economic activities, facilities affected by flood, in order to extend flood risk mapping from simple hazard concept into risk based idea. By applying it to Nakdong River basin, the flood vulnerability indices were estimated to draw flood risk maps subdivided into administrative districts. The result of this study can be applied to establish the disaster prevention measures and priority decision of disaster prevention project.

  • When micro data are released to users, record by record data are disclosed and the disclosure risk of respondent's information is inevitable. Statistical disclosure control techniques are statistical tools to reduce the risk of disclosure as well as to increase data utility in case of data release. In this paper, we reviewed the concept of disclosure and disclosure risk as well as statistical disclosure control techniques and then investigated selection strategies of a statistical disclosure control technique related with data utility. The risk-utility frontier map method was illustrated as an example. Finally, we listed some check points at each step when microdata are released.

  • The research in this paper centers on a comparative risk assessment for nearby air pollution by carcinogenic metal emission from municipal solid waste incinerators. If a substance is identified as a potential human carcinogen, the carcinogenicity may be related to the chemical form of a substance and the route of exposure. This type of information with regard to carcinogenic uncertainty is incorporated into hazard quantification. In addition to the dioxin emission, the metal emission from municipal solid waste incineration is found to be a major contributor to human cancer risk via the inhalation route. The magnitude of risk by metals is about 5 times greater than that of risk by dioxins. Hexavalent form of chromium and cadmium compounds are major contributors to cancer risk from metal emission. In addition, hexavalent chromium is known to be human carcinogen while 2,3,7,8-TCDD is known to be only probable human carcinogen.

  • The hazard maps for predicting collapse on natural slopes consist of a combination of topographic, hydrological, and geological factors. Topographic factors are extracted from DEM, including aspect, slope, curvature, and topographic index. Hydrological factors, such as soil drainage, stream-power index, and wetness index are most important factors for slope instability. However, most of the urban areas are located on the plains and it is difficult to apply the hazard map using the topography and hydrological factors. In order to evaluate the risk of subsidence of flat and low slope areas, soil depth and groundwater level data were collected and used as a factor for interpretation. In addition, the reliability of the hazard map was compared with the disaster history of the study area (Gangnam-gu and Yeouido district). In the disaster map of the disaster prevention agency, the urban area was mostly classified as the stable area and did not reflect the collapse history. Soil depth, drainage conditions and groundwater level obtained from boreholes were added as input data of hazard map, and disaster vulnerability increased at the location where the actual subsidence points. In the study area where damage occurred, the moderate and low grades of the vulnerability of previous hazard map were 12% and 88%, respectively. While, the improved map showed 2% high grade, moderate grade 29%, low grade 66% and very low grade 2%. These results were similar to actual damage.

  • Since the landslide hazard areas prediction was analyzed by slope-angle and soil properties, regional characteristics is not taken. Therefore, in order to make more rational prediction, it is necessary to consider the characteristics of the region. Tree roots have been known to increase soil cohesion in landslide hazard areas and to vary the degrees depending on the tree type. In addition, a reasonable prediction of landslide hazard areas can be made by considering crown density based on crown distribution patterns of the area of interest. In this study, using the roots cohesion considering the crown density of the trees, which is in the landslides risk areas around Mt. Gwehwa in Sejong City, the landslides risk areas were predicted and compared with predicted results obtained by not considering root cohesion.

TOPSIS(Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution)을 통해 도시홍수에 대한 위험도 분석을 실시하였다.

  • In this study, a predictive analysis was conducted on sediment disaster hazard area by selecting six research areas (Chuncheon, Seongnam, Sejong, Daejeon, Miryang and Busan) among the urban sediment disaster preliminary focus management area. The models that were used in the analysis were the existing models (SINMAP and TRIGRS) that are commonly used in predicting sediment disasters as well as the program developed through this study (LSMAP). A comparative analysis was carried out on the results as a means to review the applicability of the developed model. The parameters used in the predictions of sediment disaster hazard area were largely classified into topographic, soil, forest physiognomy and rainfall characteristics. A predictive analysis was carried out using each of the models, and it was found that the analysis using SINMAP, compared to LSMAP and TRIGRS, resulted in a prediction of a wider hazard zone. These results are considered to be due to the difference in analysis parameters applied to each model. In addition, a comparison between LSMAP, where the forest physiognomy characteristics were taken into account, and TRIGRS showed that similar tendencies were observed within a range of -0.04~2.72% for the predicted hazard area. This suggests that the forest physiognomy characteristics of mountain areas have diverse impacts on the stability of slopes, and serve as an important parameter in predicting sediment disaster hazard area.
