We propose a no-reference perceptual fog density and visibility prediction model in a single foggy scene based on natural scene statistics (NSS) and perceptual "fog aware" statistical features. Unlike previous studies, the proposed model predicts fog density without multiple foggy images, without salient objects in a scene including lane markings or traffic signs, without supplementary geographical information using an onboard camera, and without training on human-rated judgments. The proposed fog density and visibility predictor makes use of only measurable deviations from statistical regularities observed in natural foggy and fog-free images. Perceptual "fog aware" statistical features are derived from a corpus of natural foggy and fog-free images by using a spatial NSS model and observed fog characteristics including low contrast, faint color, and shifted luminance. The proposed model not only predicts perceptual fog density for the entire image but also provides local fog density for each patch size. To evaluate the performance of the proposed model against human judgments regarding fog visibility, we executed a human subjective study using a variety of 100 foggy images. Results show that the predicted fog density of the model correlates well with human judgments. The proposed model is a new fog density assessment work based on human visual perceptions. We hope that the proposed model will provide fertile ground for future research not only to enhance the visibility of foggy scenes but also to accurately evaluate the performance of defog algorithms.
Abstract Most existing digital libraries for document image retrieval provide a limited retrieval service due to their indexing from document titles and/or the content of document abstracts. This paper proposes a word spotting system for full English document image retrieval based on word image shape features. In order to improve not only the efficiency but also the precision of a retrieval system, we develop the system by 1) using a combination of the holistic features which have been used in the existing word spotting systems, 2) performing image matching by comparing the order of features in a word in addition to the number of features and their positions, and 3) adopting 2 stage retrieval strategies by obtaining retrieval results by image feature matching and applying OCR(Optical Charater Recognition) partly to the results for filtering purpose. The proposed system operates as follows: given a document image, its structure is analyzed and is segmented into a set of word regions. Then, word shape features are extracted and stored. Given a user's query with text, features are extracted after its corresponding word image is generated. This reference model is compared with the stored features to find out similar words. The proposed system is implemented with IBM-PC in a web environment and its experiments are performed with English document images. Experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed methods.
Designers often hesitate to decide the shape, size, and layout of a product. Though ergonomic principles and data are absolutely needed in this process, they don have enough guidelines to refer. For the refrigerator designers, they also are not convinced of their decision: the vertical position of the freezing and refrigerating rooms, the height of shelves, the shape of door-handle, etc. To support the refrigerator design, we applied several ergonomic methods to the evaluation of refrigerator. EMG was measured to evaluate the load of users lumbar muscle. Based upon the experimental EMG data, we developed a model to estimate the relative load corresponding to the height of refrigerator shelves. Two different layouts of a refrigerator, R/F and F/R styles, were compared with the model. A three-dimensional motion analysis method was used to evaluate the users motion of using a refrigerator. Ten door-handles with the different shapes and positions were evaluated by tracking the rotations of the users arm. Video protocol analysis was used to evaluate the user interface of a control panel in a refrigerator. Finally, we suggested several ergonomic design guidelines based on the facts found in this research and the anthropometric data of the Korean adults. The results of this study can be applied to the ergonomic design of refrigerators
Background: Thoracoscopic sympathetic block in palmar hyperhidrosis has merits in its immediate responsiveness and recovery. In palmar hyperhidrosis, the level of sympathetic chain to be blocked has been somewhat obscure. Materials and methods: To compare the results of T2 with T2,3 sympathetic block, we retrospectively studied 192 patients (T2 group: 84, T23 group: 108) operated on at SNUH with palmar hyperhidrosis between April 1994 and July 1997. We reviewed medical records and recently interviewed the patients by telephone call. Sex and age distribution between two groups showed no significant differences. We performed sympathectomy at the early phase of the syudy until April 1997, and after then, we adopted sympathicotomy rather than sympathectomy. Results: All patients showed symptomatic improvement after the operation. Mean operation times of T2, T23 groups were 61.3$\pm$22.5min, 82.7$\pm$24.8min, respectively(p<0.01). Early postoperative complications, such as Horner's syndrome or chest tube insertion, were not different in two groups. There were no statistical differences of late complications such as compensatory truncal hyperhidrosis, gustatory sweating, and phantom sweating. No patient experienced recurrence of palmar hyperhidrosis during the study period. The only difference was the extent of compensatory truncal hyperhidrosis. The compensatory sweating occurred from axilla to suprapatella in T2 group whereas its extent was from nipple to suprapatella in T23 group. Conclusions: We concluded that T2 thoracic sympathetic block is mandatory for the treatment of primary palmar hyperhidrosis.

Spatial information is essential for interpreting urban phenomena. Methodologies for spatializing urban information, especially when it lacks location details, have been consistently developed. Typical methods include Geocoding using structured address information or place names, spatial integration with existing geospatial data, and manual tasks utilizing reference data. However, a vast number of documents produced by administrative agencies have not been deeply dealt with due to their unstructured nature, even when there's demand for spatialization. This research utilizes the natural language processing model BERT to spatialize public documents related to urban planning. It focuses on extracting sentence elements containing addresses from documents and converting them into structured data. The study used 18 years of urban planning public announcement documents as training data to train the BERT model and enhanced its performance by manually adjusting its hyperparameters. After training, the test results showed accuracy rates of 96.6% for classifying urban planning facilities, 98.5% for address recognition, and 93.1% for address cleaning. When mapping the result data on GIS, it was possible to effectively display the change history related to specific urban planning facilities. This research provides a deep understanding of the spatial context of urban planning documents, and it is hoped that through this, stakeholders can make more effective decisions.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of the type and measurement location of a fabric strain gauge sensor on the detection performance for respiratory signals. We implemented two types of sensors to measure the respiratory signal and attached them to a band to detect the respiratory signal. Eight healthy males in their 20s were the subject of this study. They were asked to wear two respiratory bands in turns. While the subjects were measured for 30 seconds standing comfortably, the respiratory was given at 15 breaths per minute were synchronized, and then a 10-second break; subsequently, the entire measurement was repeated. Measurement locations were at the chest and abdomen. In addition, to verify the performance of respiratory measurement in the movement state, the subjects were asked to walk in place at a speed of 80 strides per minute(SPM), and the respiratory was measured using the same method mentioned earlier. Meanwhile, to acquire a reference signal, the SS5LB of BIOPAC Systems, Inc., was worn by the subjects simultaneously with the experimental sensor. The Kruskal-Wallis test and Bonferroni post hoc tests were performed using SPSS 24.0 to verify the difference in measurement performances among the group of eight combinations of sensor types, measurement locations, and movement states. In addition, the Wilcoxon test was conducted to examine whether there are differences according to sensor type, measurement location, and movement state. The results showed that the respiratory signal detection performance was the best when the respiratory was measured in the chest using the CNT-coated fabric sensor regardless of the movement state. Based on the results of this study, we will develop a chest belt-type wearable platform that can monitor the various vital signal in real time without disturbing the movements in an outdoor environment or in daily activities.

Cursive characters are written on an economical principle to reduce the motion of a pen in the limit of distinction between characters. That is, the pen is not lifted up to move for writing a next stroke, the pen is not moved at all, or connected two strokes chance their shapes to a similar and simple shape which is easy to be written. For these reasons, strokes and korean alphabets are not only easy to be changed, but also difficult to be splitted. In this paper, we propose a curvature stroke modeling method for splitting and matching by using a structural primitive. A curvature stroke is defined as a substroke which does not change its curvanture. Input strokes handwritten in a cursive style are splitted into a sequence of curvature strokes by segmenting the points which change the direction of rotation, which occur a sudden change of direction, and which occur an excessive rotation Each reference of korean alphabets is handwritten in a printed style and is saved as a sequence of curvature strikes which is generated by splitting process. And merging process is used to generate various sequences of curvature strikes for matching. Here, it is also considered that imaginary strokes can be written or omitted. By using a curvature stroke as a unit of recognition, redundant splitting points in input characters are effectively reduced and exact matching is possible by generating a reference curvature stroke, which consists of the parts of adjacent two korean alphasbets, even when the connecting points between korean alphabets are not splitted. The results showed 83.6% as recognition rate of the first candidate and 0.99sec./character (CPU clock:66MHz) as processing time.
The quantification analysis of renal scintigraphy is strongly affected by the location, shape and size of region of interest(ROI). When ROIs are drawn manually, these ROIs are not reproducible due to the operators' subjective point of view, and may lead to inconsistent results even if the same data were analyzed. In this study, the effect of the ROI variation on the analysis of renal scintigraphy when the ROIs are drawn manually was investigated, and in order to obtain more consistent results, methods for automated ROI definition were developed and the results from the application of the developed methods were analyzed. Relative renal function, glomerular filtration rate and mean transit time were selected as clinical parameters for the analysis of the effect of ROI and the analysis tools were designed with the programming language of IDL5.2. To obtain renal scintigraphy, $^{99m}$Tc-DTPA was injected to the 11 adults of normal condition and to study the inter-operator variability, 9 researchers executed the analyses. The calculation of threshold using the gradient value of pixels and border tracing technique were used to define renal ROI and then the background ROI and aorta ROI were defined automatically considering anatomical information and pixel value. The automatic methods to define renal ROI were classified to 4 groups according to the exclusion of operator's subjectiveness. These automatic methods reduced the inter-operator variability remarkably in comparison with manual method and proved the effective tool to obtain reasonable and consistent results in analyzing the renal scintigraphy quantitatively.
Recently, geo-based application services such as location-based commerce or personal navigation are recognized as a kind of common tool on smart-phone, and demands with respect to advanced functions of online map editing linked to value-added contents are increasing. However, the disabled people have severe difficulties to equally use those geo-based services, compared to the normal people's uses. Of course, this situation is almost same to other application fields besides geo-based applications. Web accessibility basically means necessary guideline handling web-based contents for equal uses of web services for all people. W3C has developed and distributed a generalized web content accessibility guideline, and Korean web content accessibility guideline version 2.1 referred it. As well, there is a certificate system operated by public agencies. In spite of this situation, geo-based application field is globally on the very early stage for web accessibility. This work first summarized the concept of web accessibility and Korean guideline, and then presented some practical schemes for the further geo-based applications, focused on web visualization of geo-based contents among numerous implementable application services.

The Road Name Address system has begun to be applied and widely used since 2011. However, the Digital Map, or the national representative basic map, has no reference to the Road Name Address system. It causes some difficulties to use the Digital Map under the Road Name Address system. In this paper, we suggest a method for generating the expanded Digital Map by adding information about Road Name Address system into the objects of the Digital Map. First, object matching pairs between the road section layer from the Road Name Address Map and the road centerline layer from the Digital Map are found. Then attributes to be copied from the Road Name Address map to the Digital Map are extracted by comparing their attribute tables. Finally the extracted attributes are copied from the Road Name Address Map to the Digital Map. The expanded road centerline layer of the Digital Map then has attributes about road name according to the Road Name Address system, so that the georeferencing of the Digital Map according to the Road Name Address system becomes possible.
