  • We can launch satellites only at a certain time which satisfies special conditions, since the current techniques cannot overcome these constraints. Launch window constraints are the eclipse duration, solar aspect angle, attitude control, launch site and the launch vehicle constraints, etc. In this paper, launch window is calculated that satisfies all these constraints. In calculating launch window, the basic concepts are relative locations of the sun-satellite-earth system and relative velocities of these, and these requires geometric consideration for each satellite. Launch window calculation was applied to Kitsat 2(low earth orbit) and Koreasat(geostationary orbit). The result is shown in the form of a graph that has dates on the X-axis and the corresponding times of the given day on the Y-axis.

  • Microstrip $8{ imes}2$ sub-array antennas for a extension to active phased array antennas are designed, fabricated and measured for TX/RX dual operation in satellite communication and a reception of satellite broadcasting. For the frequency range from 11.7 to 12.75 GHz for RX and from 14 to 14.5 GHz for TX, two orthogonal linear polarizations of ${pm}45^{\circ}$ are used to transmit and receive simultaneously with one radiator. They adopt dual resonance between two patches for wideband characteristics in RX band and show isolation characteristics over 20 dB. An electrical beam tilt of $30^{\circ}$ is achieved and a tapered power distribution, narrow element spacing are used for the purpose of low side-lobe characteristics.

  • This paper suggests a new algorithm to provide low-cost GPS modules with DGPS service, which corrects the error vector in the already-calculated position by projecting range corrections to position domain using the observation matrix calculated from the satellite elevation and azimuth angle in the NMEA GPGSV data. The algorithm reduced the horizontal and vertical RMS error of U-blox LEA-5H module from 1.8m/5.8m to 1.0m/1.4m during the daytime. The algorithm has advantage in improving the performance of low-cost module to that of DGPS receiver by a software update without any correction in hardware, therefore it is expected to contribute to the vitalization of the future high-precision position service infrastructure by reducing the costumer cost and vender risk.

  • In this paper we design the optimal satellite-tracking antenna $H{\infty}$ control system using genetic algorithms. To do this, we give gain and dynamics parameters to the weighting functions and apply genetic algorithms with reference model to the optimal determination of weighting functions and design parameter ${\gamma}$ that are given by Glover-Doyle algorithm which can design $H{\infty}$ controller in the state space. These weighting functions and design parameter ${\gamma}$ are optimized simultaneously in the search domain guaranteeing the robust stability of closed-loop system. The effectiveness of this satellite-tracking antenna $H{\infty}$ control system is verified by computer simulation.

  • In 1990, GPS which had been developed for the military purposes became available to the civilian community. Since then these satellite navigation systems have been used extensively in the industrial areas such as car navigation, airplanes, communications, science and surveying. If we are dependent on GPS, however, there are some foreseeable problems in the areas of national security and sovereignty. Current GPS satellite constellation provides limited performance for the country like Korea and Japan where mountain area and urban canyon do not allow the wide skyline. To solve these problems, many countries plan to make other alternative navigation systems. In this paper, RNSS(Regional Navigation Satellite System) is designed to provide communication service with high elevation angle. It is shown, that system does not only have good navigation performance, but also improve GPS performance in Korea and its neighboring areas.

  • Han's model, which is able to analyze optical communication between earth station and geo-satellite as a function of atmospheric conditions and elevation angles. is presented. In Han's model, atmospheric conditions are roughly classified into six basic types; clear sky, cloud, haze, fog, rain and snow. Data rate satisfying for the BER below $10^{-7}$ is analyzed by Han's model in case of up-link and down-link, respectively. Data rate is more limited by up-link than by down-link because the pointing loss caused by atmosphere on the up-link is greater than the spatial coherence degradation caused by atmosphere on the down-link.

  • This paper presents hybrid antenna(HA) design based on shaped reflector for mobile satellite communication. HA is composed of a shaped reflector and a feeder having $1{\times}8$ linear phased array, and reflector shaping method is applied for the performance optimization with minimum aperture size. And, in the feeder design, HA has another merit to minimize the manufacturing cost by optimizing the number of element. Proposed HA is designed at Ka-band and can electrically control a beam pattern within ${\pm}3^{\circ}$ in the basic angle of $+45^{\circ}$ in elevation. This antenna is designed to meet ITU-R S.465-5 for beam pattern including side-lobe level.

  • Ionosphere, one of the largest error sources, can pose potentially harmful threat to single-frequency GNSS (global navigation satellite system) user even after applying ionospheric corrections to their GNSS measurements. To quantitatively assess ionospheric impacts on the satellite navigation-based applications using simulation, the standard deviation of residual ionospheric errors is needed. Thus, in this paper, we determine conservative statistical quantity that covers typical residual ionospheric errors for nominal days. Extensive data-processing computes TEC (total electron content) estimates from GNSS measurements collected from the Korean reference station networks. We use Klobuchar model as a correction to calculate residual ionospheric errors from TEC (total electron content) estimate. Finally, an exponential delay model for residual ionospheric errors is presented as a function of local time and satellite elevation angle.

  • This paper presents the carrier phase DGPS method providing a stable navigation solution under the condition of frequent blockage of the GPS signals. The proposed algorithm reject the channels having large errors using a clock bias drift and then calculated the more accurate solution. By investigating the relation between visible satellites` elevation and their clock bias drift, a proper threshold is set. Simulation shows that the presented result is as good as that of commercial system with real data.
