  • In this paper, the key technologies of Navigation receiver for GNSS sensor station are presented as a development result of a GNSS ground station in ETRI. A wide-band antenna and RF/IF components and SW signal processing unit to cover the GPS and Galileo signals for GNSS receiver are developed and its performance is verified by using GPS live signal and GNSS RF signal simulator from SpirentTM. We also gather GIOVE-A signal by using H/W antenna and RF/IF units in IF-level as sampling frequency and bit number, 112MHz and 8bits, respectively by using the developed wide-band antenna and RF/IF components. Data acquisition is done by using commercial data acquisition device from National Instrument TM. The gathered data is fed into SW receiver to process Galileo E1 to verify Galileo signal processing by Galileo live signal from GIOVE-A.

  • This study performed fault test on global positoining system (GPS) carrier phase measurements, which is a preprocessing step to generate the positioning correction information based on the global navigation satellite system (GNSS) infrastructure. The existing carrier acceleration ramp step test (CARST) method affects the test result by using the mean value to eliminate the receiver clock error. In this regard, this study applied differencing and compared its results with those of the existing CARST. The fault simulation that applied artificial faults to the actual data found that the fault could be detected independently on each satellite when difference method was applied, and the single difference CARST and the double difference CARST produced similar results. The comparison with the existing method using actual data demonstrated the strengths and weaknesses of satellite and station single difference. Nevertheless, it is our understanding that it would require an additional analysis to determine whether the results were affected by the satellite or receiver clock error.

  • For the purpose of improving the accuracy of Wide Area Differential GNSS (WA-DGNSS), estimation performance of ionospheric delay error which has a great impact on GPS error sources should be enhanced. This paper applied multi-constellation GNSS which represents GPS in USA, GLONASS in Russia, and Galileo in Europe to WA-DGNSS algorithm in order to improve performance of ionospheric delay estimation. Furthermore, we conducted simulation to analyze ionospheric delay estimation performance in Korean region by increasing the number of reference stations. Consequently, using multi-constellation GNSS to improve performance of ionospheric delay estimation is more effective than increasing the number of reference stations in spite of similar number of measurements which are in use for estimation. We expect this result can contribute to improvement for ionospheric delay estimation performance of single-frequency SBAS (Satellite Based Augmentation System) user.

  • For the realization of future intelligent transportation systems, fine-grained lane-by-lane traffic monitoring and control functionalities are among the most important technology barriers to overcome. To satisfy the accuracy requirement for traffic monitoring, a GNSS receiver network is designed. The designed receiver network consists of three different types of entities; reference server, broadcaster, and client. For deployment flexibility, all the entities utilize the international message standard RTCM SC-104 version 3.0. For fine-grained traffic monitoring, the client is designed to utilize position-domain carrier-smoothed-code filters to provide accurate vehicle coordinates in spite of frequent addages and outages of visible satellites. An experiment result is presented to evaluate the positioning accuracy of the proposed method.

  • For improvement of network RTK performance in survey field, Spatial Information Research Institute (SIRI), LX Korea Cadastral Survey Corporation installed 30 GNSS permanent stations in Korea Peninsula, and has been running the MAC-based network RTK service as a test version. In this paper, we introduce the LX GNSS network and analyze the positioning accuracy of the LX MAC RTK service. For field test of the LX MAC RTK service, we installed temporally fixed anchor points and observed simultaneously with VRS of National Geographic Information Institute. As a result, the horizontal position differences and initial times of LX MAC with respect to NGII VRS are $1{\sim}2{\pm}1cm$ and <10 seconds, respectively.

  • This paper predicts and measures the C/N ratio of a beacon signal transmitted from geostationary orbit satellite KorSat 5A ($113^{\circ}E$) at a ground station located in Kimpo. Based on the ground stations, we compared the rain attenuation of the zone K of ITU-R and the rain attenuation which analyzed the domestic weather information. In ITU-R, the Korean rainfall characteristics are classified into zone K, but forecasting the rainfall intensity and attenuation of three adjacent cities based on the cumulative rainfall data per minute from 2013 to 2017. The calculation of rainfall path and attenuation is based on ITU-R recommendations. The change of the C/N according to the rainfall amount was confirmed through the 2 week satellite beacon signal C/N measurement. The predicted critical C/N was decreased to 12 dB at $A_{0.3}$. During the experiment, it was confirmed that it decreased up to 8 dB according to the concentrated rainfall.

  • This paper investigates the applicability of optical flow information for unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) navigation under environments where global navigation satellite system (GNSS) is unavailable. Since the optical flow information is one of important measurements to estimate horizontal velocity and position, accuracy of the optical flow information must be guaranteed. So a navigation algorithm, which can estimate and cancel biases that the optical flow information may have, is suggested to improve the estimation performance. In order to apply and verify the proposed algorithm, an integrated simulation environment is built by designing a guidance, navigation, and control (GNC) system. Numerical simulations are implemented to analyze the navigation performance using this environment.

  • GNSS based transport infrastructure cluster is to broadcast satellite navigation correction information and integrity information capable of precise positioning for land transport users. This makes it possible to do lane-level positioning reliably. However, in order to provide the lane-level positioning and correction information service nationwide, new station sites selection and to build GNSS stations have a heavy cost and a burden for a considerable period of time. In this paper, we propose the cluster design criteria and national-wide network-based precise positioning for land transportation (NETPPI-LT) cluster design for a cluster-based precise positioning. Furthermore, it is analyzed the precise positioning pre-performance of this cluster design based on the spatial error and verified its suitability as the precise positioning pre-performance of the cluster design.

  • COSPAS-SARSAT 406 MHz emergency beacons include ELTs for aviation, EPIRBs for maritime, and PLBs for individuals in distress. They are used to sending messages encoded on 406 MHzdistress frequency and sending alertsfor search and rescue in distress. C/S T.001 and T.018 are COSPAS-SARSAT technical documents. They include basic technical information needed for developing beacons, howmessages are constructed, and test methods for type approval. COSPAS-SARSAT systems that use existing low earth orbit (LEO) and geostationary earth orbit (GEO) satellites do not have a return link service (RLS). So, the survivors could not confirm whether the distress signal was sending or not. However, a new medium earth orbit (MEO)satellite system has been added to thissystem, allowing confirmation through the RLS function. This paper analyzed C/S T.001 and T.018 needed to develop navigation structuresthat incorporated improved PLB of 406 MHz, a homing signal generator of 121.5 MHz, and a VHF AM transmitter for aviation of 243 MHz.

  • For GNSS navigation in urban environment, a novel short delay multipath mitigation algorithm is proposed in this paper. This algorithm detects which satellite's signal is the multipath signal by using the constraint that GNSS receiver is equipped in a ground vehicle, then estimate new position after separating the measurement of that satellite. A criterion for detecting and validating the multipath signal depends on the performance grade of the GNSS receiver and the dynamics of the vehicle. In order to evaluate the proposed algorithm, the real data had been collected at the multipath environment of 4 scenarios. By post-processing the real data with both of the multipath mitigation algorithm in the receiver and the proposed algorithm, it can be checked that the position errors were less than 5 meters except the case that the number of visible satellite is lower than 5.
