  • The errors between track segments or at the cross-over points of shipborne gravity were successfully reduced by applying a cross-over error adjustment technique using satellite gravity. The integration of shipborne and satellite altimeter-implied free-air gravity anomalies after the cross-over error adjustment resulted in a high resolution gravity map which contains both short and long wavelength components. The successful adjustment of the cross-over errors in the shipborne gravity using the satellite gravity suggests that the shipborne gravity can be combined with the satellite anomalies characterized by a stable and long wavelength component. The resulting free-air anomaly map is evenly harmonized with both short and long wavelength anomalies. Thus the corrected anomaly map can be better used for the geological interpretation. Free-air anomalies with more than 140 mGal in total variations generally correspond to the seafloor topographic changes in their regional patterns. A series of gravity highs are aligned from the Korea Plateau to the Oki Island, which are interpreted to be caused by seamounts or volcanic topographies. The gravity minima along the western and southern shelf edge are associated not only with the local basement morphology and thick sediment fill at the continental margin, but also possibly with the crustal edge effect known for passive continental margins. Series of NE-trending linear anomalies are possibly caused by a swarm of volcanic intrusions followed the initial opening of the Ulleung Basin. The linear high anomalies in the Ulleung Plateau are terminated by the straightly NNW-trending anomalies with a sharp gradient in its western boundary which indicates a fault-line scarp. The opposite side adjoined with the fault-line scarp shows no correlation with the fault-line scarp in geometry indicating that the block might be horizontally slided from the north. A gravity high in contrast to the deepening in seafloor toward the northeastern central Ulleung Basin is probably responsible for the thin crust and shallow seated mantle. • Accurate estimation of the Earth gravity field plays an important role in understanding the Earth geodynamic activities. After brief discussion on the objective of the gravity estimation, dedicated satellite missions for this purpose are described. Recently launched NASA/DLR Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE) mission, which consists of two co-orbiting low altitude satellites, is described. For the performance analysis, full numerical simulation was performed. The simulation procedure and its key instrument modelings are described. From the simulation results, a significant improvement on the Earth gravity field accuracy is expected.

  • Currently, investigations in microgravity environments are carried out in a variety of applications, including drop towers, where experiments can be performed for short periods of time, and space stations, where time is not limited. However, producing a microgravity environment for long-term scientific research requires huge development expenditures and efforts. As a result, if the microgravity experiment is carried out on a cubesat, the variety of scientific studies will likely increase even more due to its low cost. The Korea Microgravity Science Laboratory (KMSL) cubesat, which has these features, is a satellite that has carried out microgravity science missions. On March 22, 2021, the KMSL satellite was launched by a Soyuz2.1a from Baikonur in Kazakhstan and operated normally for nearly two months. This article presents results and lessons gained for successfully completing science missions in microgravity based on the KMSL satellite's operational experience.

  • Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE), launched in April, 2002, makes it possible to monitor Earth's mass redistribution with its time-varying gravity observation. GRACE provides monthly gravity solutions as coefficients of spherical harmonics, and thus ones need to convert the gravity spectrum to gravity grids (or mass grids) via the spherical harmonics. GRACE gravity solutions, however, include spatial alias error as well as noise, which requires to suppress in order to enhance signal to noise ratio. In this study, we present the GRACE data processing procedures and introduce some applications of time-varying gravity, which are studies of terrestrial water storage changes, Antarctic and Greenland ice melting, and sea level rise. Satellite missions such as GRACE will continue up to early 2020, and they are expected to be an essential resource to understand the global climate changes.

  • Resonance effect on the orbital elements of geosynchronous artificial satellite due to the non-zonal geopotential has been calculated. For the perturbation of a artificial satellite, perturbation effects due to the non-zonal geopotential is less than due to the $J_2$ or Luni-Solar perturbation, but non-zonal harmonics resonance exist. So, we calculate the perturbation of geosynchronous artificial satellite orbit due to the non-zonal harmonics resonance. The effect on the orbit eccentricity of non-zonal harmonics resonance is represented by a phase plane plot of ec. The effect on the orbit eccentricity of non-zonal harmonics resonance is represented by a phase plane plot of $e_c$ verse $e_s$. The evolution of mean longitude and semi-major axis are obtained.

  • The lunar gravity field is an important source to understand the lunar interior structure, dichotomy and magma ocean of the moon, furthermore it can be used to study the origin and evolution history of the moon. In this paper, we firstly investigated the history of lunar exploration were performed for determining the lunar gravity field, in addition to investigating the procedure of progress related with the lunar gravity field model and gravity observations techniques. After, we determined practically the gravity anomalies of the moon using the new lunar gravity model, SGM90d (SELENE Gravity Model), which were developed by processing the tracking data from SELENE, the japanese lunar mission. Finally, we compared the lunar gravity anomalies from SGM90d model to the those from existing lunar gravity model (LP165P). As results from the comparison, we can make a sense that 4-way Doppler observations of SELENE is very effective to measure the gravity field on the farside of the moon. The precise lunar gravity field model including the farside of the moon which can be more helpful to understand the dichotomy of moon and to establish the detailed distribution of lunar gravity field, such as a mascon.

  • GRACE (Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment) is the first dedicated gravity mapping mission. Its primary measurements are the distance changes between two co-orbiting low earth satellites. GRACE is a joint development by NASA and German DLR and was launched in March 2002. GRACE improves the Earth gravity model accuracy by nearly two factor of magnitude over pre-launch models. After brief description of the GRACE primary instrument, inter-satellite ranging system, its flight status and preliminary performance evaluation is presented. Ranging system error models, which were not included in the pre-launch performance model and design specifications, are identified through analyzing the flight data. Base on this analysis, future research topics on the GRACE instrument performance analysis are discussed.

  • It was investigated that the effect of zonal harmonics to transfer orbit. Since parking orbit is located at low altitude, the zonal harmonics affects transfer orbit relatively high sense. So under the zonal harmonics, eccentricity and semi-major-axis which were related orbit altitude at the first hand, were investigated. As a result the zonal harmonics increases the altitude of apogee of transfer orbit. So if the zonal harmonics is considered in orbit transfer the fuel can be saved a little.
