  • Orbit error analysis was performed for the GPS navigation solutions and ground station tracking data of the KOMPSAT (Korea Multi-Purpose SATellite), which will be launched in 1999 for cartography of Korean peninsula as main mission. A least square method was used for the orbit determination and prediction error simulation including tracking data noises and dynamic modeling errors. It was found that a short-term periodic orbit determination error was caused by the tracking data noise and dominant orbit prediction error was caused by solar flux uncertainty.

  • In this paper, we designed a downconverter for K-band satellite multipoint distribution service(SMDS). The designed downconverter consists of a low noise amplifiers, bandpass filter, stable local oscillator, drain mixer and If Amplifiers. Low noise amplifiers show 28㏈ gain and 1.5㏈ noise figure in the frequency range of 19.2㎓~20.2㎓, and a band pass filter has a -l㏈ insertion loss, and 18.25㎓ Stable local oscillator which is dielectric resonant oscillation, We obtained that the output power of the 18.25㎓ oscillation frequency is 0.5㏈m and the phase noise is the -84.67㏈c at 10KHz offset frequency. With the input RF signal the 19.2㎓~20.2㎓, conversion gain of the drain mixer shows 5㏈ at the Intermediate frequency range of 950MHz~1950MHz. We have proved that the designed downconverter satisfied the specification of a K-band satellite multipoint distribution service and it can be applied to the satellite internet receiver.

  • A wideband RF receiver for satellite mobile communications system was fabricated and evaluated of performance in low noise amplifier and high gain amplifier. The low noise amplifier used to the resistive decoupling and self-bias circuits. The low noise amplifier is fabricated with both the RF circuits and the self-bias circuits. Using a INA-03184, the high gain amplifier consists of matched amplifier type. The active bias circuitry can be used to provide temperature stability without requiring the large voltage drop or relatively high-dissipated power needed with a bias stabilized resistor. The bandpass filter was used to reduce a spurious level. As a result, the characteristics of the receiver implemented here show more than 55 dB in gain, 50.83 dBc in a spurious level and less than 1.8 : 1 in input and output voltage standing wave ratio(VSWR), especially the carrier to noise ratio is a 43.15 dB/Hz at a 1 KHz from 1537.5 MHz.

  • This paper presents a method to detect buildings using shadow information in satellite imagery. We classify image into three categories of building region, shadow region and background region to find buildings with consistent intensity. After the removal of noises in building regions and shadow regions, buildings adjacent to shadow regions are detected using the constraint of building and shadow sizes. The algorithm has been applied to KOMPSAT and SPOT images and the result showed buildings are efficiently detected.

  • We studied the nonlinear estimation problem of extended Kalman filter and appled this method to LEO satellite system. Through this method the performance of extended Kalman filter was analyzed. There were certain presumption taken; J2 and atmospheric drag were simply considered in the dynamic model of LEO satellite and the system noise error of $\sigma_r$=150m, $\sigma_r$=10m/s was presumed in the observation data. As results of this simulation, the overall state estimation errors of extended Kalman filter were within the presumed error range and also the ability of performance was maximized when the condition was the state process noise Q has the 1/10 level of covariance matrix Po.

  • This paper address the statistical charateristics of MUSIC algorithm which is suggested as satellite direction finding algorithm. If the MUSIC algorithm is adopted as a satellite direction detection method in mobile TT&C system, then the statistical performance of the MUSIC algorithm will be closely related with the overall performance of the system. So statistical characteristics of the parameter in the respect of SNR and data length are addressed and then analyse the final effects to the satellite direction finding.

  • Need for agile satellite increases for performing various mission due to increase of satellite image applications and users. In high resolution satellite TDI (time delay and integration) method is adopted in order to improve SNR. But image quality can be degraded by satellite maneuver. In this paper requirements for remote sensing in high resolution satellite with agility are extracted and an approach to operate the agile satellite to perform the missions are proposed. The proposed approach in this paper will be applicable to system level design and analysis.

  • The characteristics of the satellite image quality parameters driven by satellite imaging instrument are investigated. Since the satellite image is directly produced by the satellite imaging instrument, the satellite image quality depends on the imager performance highly. This is why the imager performance parameters are considered as an important part of the satellite image quality parameters. The imager performance parameters consist of spectral band parameters, ground sample distance(GSD) parameters, swath width parameters, imager Modulation Transfer Function (MTF), imager Signal to Noise Ratio(SNR), radiometric response characteristics parameters, pixel registration, and imager calibration.
