Optical representation of binary data based on both intensity and phase modulation with a twisted-nematic liquid crystal display for holographic digital data storage (디지털 데이터의 홀로그래피 저장에서 뒤틀린 니매틱 액정 디스플레이로 세기 및 위상 변조에 기초한 2진 데이터의 광학적 표현)

  • We propose a method to represent binary data by modulating both the intensity and the phase of uniform plane waves with a twisted-nematic liquid crystal display for holographic digital data storage especially in a disk-shaped recording medium. As far as intensity modulation is concerned, our method is not different from the conventional method, because binary bit values 0 and 1 are represented by the dark (off) and lit (on) states of the liquid crystal display pixels, respectively (or vice versa). With our method, however, the on pixels are also controlled so that the beams passing through them can have one of two different phase delays. If the difference of the two phase delays is close to 180 degrees, we can reduce the dc component of the data image and thus improve the beam intensity uniformity at the holographic recording plane when Fourier plane holograms are recorded. The feasibility of our method is experimentally demonstrated.

  • For an effective phase multiplexing in a volume holographic system, four types of phase code, pseudo random code(PSC), Hadamard matrix(HAM), pure random code(PRC), equivalent random code(ERC), used as reference beams are generated. In case of $32{\times}32$ address beam, a phase error with 0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, and 25% error rate, is purposely added to the real phase values in order to consider the practical SLM's nonlinear characteristics of phase modulation in computer simulation. Crosstalks and SNRs(signal-to-ratio) are comparatively analyzed for these phase codes by the auto-correlation and cross-correlation. PSC has the lowest cross-correlation mean value of 0.067 among four types of phase code, which means the SNR of the pseudo random phase code is higher than other phase codes. Also, the standard deviation of the pseudo random phase code indicating the degree of recalled data degradation is the lowest value of 0.0113. In order to analyze the affect by variation of pixel size, simulation is carried out by same method for the case of $32{\times}32$, $64{\times}64$, $128{\times}128$, $256{\times}256$ address beams.

  • Digital holography and refractive index difference are used to measure a high aspect ratio's patterns. When interference fringes are very closely spaced, the phase data containing high frequencies where $2{\pi}$ ambiguities cannot be resolved. In this technique, the optical path difference is decreased by decreasing the refractive index difference. As a result, we solve the $2{pi}$ ambiguities. Also, this technique is applicable to measure the refractive index if the shape of the sample is known.

  • In this paper we present a new method of measuring the relative distance of two point objects in three-dimensional space by using phase-shifting digital holography. In our system the reference beam of a spherical wave is used instead of a plane wave. The system is computer simulated and built on an optical table for experiments. It is shown from computer simulations and experiments that the relative distance can be measured without the exact information on the reference beam used in the hologram record. It is shown from experiments that the relative distance between two point objects separated by 0.5 cm in the distance of about 300 cm from the CCD can be measured with an error less than 10%.

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient SA(simulated annealing) algorithm for the synthesis of binary phase computer generated hologram. SA algorithm is a method to find the optimal solution through iterative technique. It is important that selecting cost function and parameters within this algorithm. The aplications of converentional SA algorithm to synthesize parameters within this algorithm. The applications of conventional SA algorithm to synthesize binary hologram have many problems because of inappropriate paramters and cost function. So, we propose a new cost function and a calculation technique of proper parameters required to achieve the optimal solution. Computer simulation results show that the proposed method is better than conventional method in terms of diffraction efficiency and reconstruction error. Also, we show the reconstructed images by the proposed method through optical esperiment.

  • In this paper, we proposed a wavelet phase-only filter modulation synthetic discriminant function joint transform correlator(WPOfSDF-JTC) for scale invariant pattern recognition, and an improved algorithm to reduce the filter synthesis time. Computer simulation showed that the proposed filter has better SNR than CWMF if input image has random noise and the improved synthesis algorithm can reduce the iteration time. We used frequency selective JTC to solve the problem of the optical alignment and eliminate the autocorrelation and crosscorrelation between each input image.

  • In this paper, we introduced the BQBPH method for making the grating of high efficiency which was improtant in implementing optical PS. The pattern of graing was obtianed by computer simulations using iterative method, and the diffraction efficeincy of designed grating was about 67% through BPM simulation. The grating was fabricated by laser beam writer, and the diffraction efficiency BPM simulation. The grating was fabricated by laser beam writer, and the diffraction efficiency was 47%. We implemented the optical PS with the grating and showed that optical experimental output patterns were good agreement with PS output patterns and first order was main diffraction order.

  • Ge이 도핑된 실리카 광도파로 코어는 GeO$_2$분자의 산소결핍에 의하여 248nm의 파장을 갖는 자외선에 대해서 광감응성을 가지게 된다. 따라서 248nm 파장의 레이저를 간섭시켜 조사할 경우, Ge가 도핑되지 않은 overcladding 부분은 투과하고 간섭 패턴의 에너지 분포에 따라 코어의 굴절률이 주기적으로 변화한다. 이 주기적인 굴절률 변화는 잘 알려진 광학적 브래그 격자(Bragg grating)의 역할을 하게된다. 자외선 레이저를 이용하여 영구적인 굴절률 변화를 코어 내부에 형성시키는 방법으로는 홀로그램법과 위상 마스크를 이용하는 방법, 그리고 단일 슬릿을 이용하는 방법등이 있다[1][2].   • 본 논문에서는 디지털 홀로그래픽 비디오 서비스를 위한 시스템의 구조를 제안하고 이를 구현하였다. 홀로그래픽 비디오 서비스의 형태는 다양할 수 있는데 이 중에서 깊이카메라를 기반으로 하여 위상방식의 컴퓨터생성홀로그램(computer generated hologram, CGH)을 이용하는 것을 타겟으로 하였다. CGH는 고속 생성을 위하여 GPGPU(general purpose graphic processing unit)을 이용하였고, 편의상 복원은 프레넬 변환(Fresnel transform)을 이용한 소프트웨어 방식을 이용하였다.

  • 광굴절 물질은 광학적 위상공액 및 신호처리, 홀로그램 기록소자 및 광정보처리를 포함한 다양한 분야에 응용되고 있다. 또한 광굴절 결정의 광굴절 특성도 실험 및 이론적으로 활발하게 연구되고 있다. 그리고 본 연구에서 사용한 BaTiO$_3$ 결정은 외부에서 인가하는 전기장 없이도 매우 높은 전기광학계수(electrooptic coefficient)를 가지고 있어서 다양한 응용이 기대되는 광굴절 매질이다. 광굴절 결합계수를 측정하게 될 때, BaTiO$_3$ 결정에서의 두 빔의 결합에 대한 이득(gain)의 변화는 물질의 외부적인 특성, 즉 전기광학 텐서와 트랩의 농도 등에 의존할 뿐만 아니라, 외부적으로 조정될 수 있는 변수들, 예를 들면 매질에 입사되는 두 빔사이의 각도, 매질의 광축과 격자벡터 사이의 각도, 그리고 입사된 두 빔의 세기의 비 등에 의존하게 된다.
