New systolic arrays for computation of the 1-D and 2-D discrete wavelet transform (1차원 및 2차원 이산 웨이브렛 변환 계산을 위한 새로운 시스톨릭 어레이)

  • This paper proposes systolic array architectures for compuataion of the 1-D and 2-D discrete wavelet transform (DWT). The proposed systolic array for compuataion of the 1-D DWT consists of L processing element (PE) arrays, where the PE array denotes the systolic array for computation of the one level DWT. The proposed PE array computes only the product terms that are required for further computation and the outputs of low and high frequency filters are computed in alternate clock cycles. Therefore, the proposed architecuter can compute the low and high frequency outputs using a single architecture. The proposed systolic array for computation of the 2-D DWT consists of two systolic array architectures for comutation of the 1-D DWT and memory unit. The required time and hardware cost of the proposed systolic arrays are comparable to those of the conventional architectures. However, the conventional architectures need extra processing units whereas the proposed architectures fo not. The proposed architectures can be applied to subband decomposition by simply changing the filter coefficients.

  • Estimation of reverberant time is one of important factor for the calculation of absorption ration of absorption material. In general the digital filter bank has been used for the, estimation of decay curve of the sound pressure in a reverberant room. However at low frequency, it is not easy to get a good linear decay curve for the estimation of reverberant time. Now, wavelet transform is applied to this difficult task, a good result has been obtained at low frequency. The decay curve using wavelet filter bank is better than that using digital filter bank at low frequency. At higher frequency, both curves are similar.

Electron Beam Welding Diagnosis Using Wavelet Transform (웨이브렛 변환을 이용한 전자빔 용접 진단)

  • Wavelet transform analysis results show a spectrum energy distribution of CWT along scale factors distinguish the partial, full and over penetration in a electron beam welding by analyzing the curve of spectrum energy at small scale, middle and large scale range, respectively. Two types of signals collected by Ion collector and x-ray sensors and analyzed. The acquired signals from sensors are very complicated since these signals are very closely related the dynamics of keyhole which interact the very high density energy with materials during welding. The results show the wavelet transform is more effective to diagnosis than Fourier Transform, further for the general welding defects which are not a periodic based, but a transient, non-stationary and time-varying phenomena.

  • Oil spills and red tide can be very damaging to the environment and fishery farming. These catastrophic accidents must be detected as quickly as possible. In this paper, we report the results of applying the wavelet transform to SAR or marine radar images for the detection of the boundaries of an oil spill or red tide. The application of the wavelet transform to these phenomena looks quite promising in detecting the boundaries of oil spills and red tide areas.

  • This paper proposes a method of fault detection and diagnosis of agitators based on the wavelet analysis of the current and vibration signals. The wavelet transform has received considerable interest in the fields of acoustics, communication, image compression, vision. and seismic since it provides the fast and effective means of analyzing signals recorded during operation. Neural network is used to diagnose the fault. Specifically, the proposed approach consists of (i) fault detection, (ii) feature extraction, and (iii) classification of fault types. The results show an effective application of the wavelet analysis on the monitoring of an agitator.

  • This paper suggests an algorithm which can retrieval images using correlations between the region classification of spatial image and the wavelet transform even though the images are rotated in a ${\pm}$90 degree arc. Owing to this proposed method, it was confirmed from experiments that the search about the whole image is not processed and only a few amount of informations are saved by using the mathematical statistics from the block map and transformed band which is resulted from region classification, and by performing the image search based on these, the improvement of search speed and the efficient search can be done.

  • The Wavelet Transform providing both of the frequency and time information of an image is proved to be very much effective for the compression of images, and recently lot of studies on coding algorithms for images decomposed by the wavelet transform together with the multiresolution theory are going on. This paper proposes a Quadtree decompositon method of image compression applied to the images decomposed by wavelet transform by using the correlations between pixels .Since the coefficients obtained by the wavelet transform have high correlations between scales, the Quadtree method can reduce the data quantity effectively The experimental image with 256${\times}$256 size was used to compare the Performances of the existing and the proposed compression methods.

  • A new algorithm using 1-dimensional wavelet transform for autofocusing of optical instrument has been developed. Previous studies based on the conventional frequency analysis have shown that as the lens-object distance approaches the optimum value, the high frequency energy in the corresponding image shows a consistent increase. However, as conventional frequency analysis techniques hide spatial distribution of each band energy, shape information in the original signal cannot be easily utilized. In this paper, a newly devised wavelet based focus measuring scheme is presented. Unlike other frequency domain analysis techniques that simply produce "frequency-only" spectra, wavelet analysis provides a "time-frequency" localized view of a given signal. As a result, both frequency band filtering and spatial distribution filtering can easily be realized. Depending on the proposed focus quality measuring algorithm, a fast and reliable automatic focus adjustment of optical devices could be implemented.

  • In this paper, wavelet transform with multi-resolution property is used to improve the accuracy of pitch estimation of speech signal. Pitch detection of speech signal is based on the local maxima by using wavelet transform. The wavelet transform of a signal is a multiscale decomposition that is well localized in space and frequency. The proposed pitch defection algorithm is suitable for both low-pitched and high-pitched speakers.

  • 일상생활 중 지속적인 심장의 활동상태 모니터링을 통해 건강관리 및 응급상황에 대처하기 위한 많은 관련 연구들이 수행되고 있다. 심전도신호를 모니터링하기 위해서는 필수적으로 전극을 신체에 부착해야만 하며 피검자로 하여금 불편함을 초래한다. 본 연구에서는 가정 또는 사무실에서 무구속(non- restrained)적인 방법으로 심장의 활동상태를 모니터링하기 위하여 심탄도(ballistocardiogram, BCG)를 계측하고자 하였다. 심탄도는 심장의 수축과 이완에 따라 심장과 혈관에서의 혈류변화에 따른 탄도를 계측한 신호를 의미하며, 심탄도를 계측하기 위하여 로드셀을 이용한 의자형 무구속 심탄도 측정시스템을 구현하였다. 그리고 심탄도 신호로부터 건강정보의 추출을 위해 웨이브렛 변환과 템플릿 매칭(template maching)기법을 이용한 신호처리기법을 제안하였다. 구현된 시스템 및 신호처리기법의 타당성을 검토하기 위해 심전도와 동시에 심탄도를 측정하였으며, 상호 비교를 통해 심탄도 계측시스템의 유용성을 평가하였다.
