This study was designed to elucidate the effect of fermented blackberry drinks (BD) on alcohol metabolism and hangover in alcohol-treated rats. We showed that the administration of BD increased the activity of alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) and aldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH) in alcohol-treated rats. Moreover, the administration of BD reduced the serum alcohol and acetaldehyde concentrations in alcohol-treated rats. Furthermore, the administration of BD attenuated the levels of serum aspartate aminotransferase and alanine aminotransferase in alcohol-treated rats. Taken together, these results suggest that BD plays an important role in alcohol metabolism and liver function by reducing blood alcohol and acetaldehyde through the activation of ADH and ALDH in alcohol-treated rats and could be used as a functional anti-hangover drinks.

This study was designed to evaluate the protective effect of silkworm hemolymph against ${\gamma}-irradiation$ induced damage in the liver of mice. Female Balb/C mice (6 weeks old) were exposed to ${\gamma}-irradiation$ (6 Gy) and administered orally to silkworm hemolymph ($5ml\;kg^{-1}$ BW) for 7 days post-irradiation. The body weight, spleen index, plasma aspartate transaminase (AST), plasma alanine transaminase (ALT), and liver malondialdehyde (MDA) levels were determined. Compared with irradiated control mice, the activity of plasma AST and the level of MDA were significantly decreased in mice treated silkworm hemolymph. These results show that silkworm hemolymph is found to have a protective effect against ${\gamma}-irradiation$ induced damage in mice.

원자력의 산업적 이용에 대한 기틀이 될 대단위 방사선 가공 처리 시범 시설이 칙공 1년만인 10월 15일 한국 원자력 연구소 구내에 준공되었다. 국제 연합 개발계획(UNDP) 기금 49만 불의 지원과 내자 3억4천만 원을 들여 완공한 이 시설에는 코발트-60을 조사원으로 하는 방사선 조사 장치와 30만 전자 볼트의 전자 가속 장치가 설치되었다. 이날 최형섭 과학기술처장관, UNDP 주한 대표 "찬드"씨, 윤용구 한국원자력 연구소장을 비롯 2백여병의 내외 귀빈이 참석한 가운데 이 시설은 시운전 기간을 걸쳐 76년 말 국제원자력기구(IAEA)로부터 운영권이 한국원자력연구소로 이관되어 방사선의 산업적 이용을 극대화하게 된다. 이 시범 시설의 운영 목적은 국내의 여러 산업 기관으로 하여금 방사선 가공 기술의 응용 범위와 생산성이 높다는 것을 실제로 깨닫게 하여 제품을 개량하므로서 수출 증대를 도모하는데 있다.

원자력발전소 안전성 확보의 가장 중요한 요소는, 원전 시설 내에 근무하는 종사자와 원전 주변 주민은 물론, 생활 환경을 방사선과 방사성 물질로부터 보호하고, 원전운영으로 인한 각종 영향이 법적 제한치 이내에서 최소화되도록 관리하는 것이다. 방사선 안전 관리가 제대로 이루어질 때 국민적 신뢰가 확보되고, 원전 사업 기반은 더욱 튼튼하게 뿌리를 내리게 될 것이다. 96년도에 수행한 주요 방사선 안전 관리 실적에 대해 방사선 관리, 방사성 폐기물(이하 방사물) 관리, 환경 방사능 관리, 방사능 재해 등의 분야로 나누어 점검해 본다.

In this research, poly(acrylic acid) (PAAc) hydrogels containing zinc oxide particle were prepared by gamma-ray irradiation. PAAc powder was completely dissolved in distilled water at room temperature. Water-insoluble zinc oxide powder were added into the PAAc solution and stirred until totally dissolved. Finally, the mixture was irradiated by gamma-ray irradiation to make crosslinking. The effects of various parameters such as zinc ions' concentration, irradiation doses were varied and investigated in detail. PAAc hydrogels containing zinc oxide particle were characterized by gel content and swelling ratio. Moreover, the antibacterial properties of this material were evaluated by paper diffusion test against the Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria.

최근 일본은 남서부지방의 과실류 등에 기생하는 것이 확인된 과실파리에 대한 방제법으로 방사선을 이용한 ${\ulcorner}$불임충방사법${\lrcorner}$의 실시를 검토중이라고 한다. 이 방법은 Co-60에 의한 감마선으로 불임화한 숫놈의 성충을 풀어 야생의 암컷과 교미시킴으로서 방제하는 것인데, 우리나라도 소나무의 솔잎혹파리근절이 산림정책의 중요한 과제의 하나인 바, 관심거리가 아닐 수 없다.
