Nano-bending method is presented to measure the Poisson's ratio of thinfilms for MEMS (Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems) applicaiton. The douvle-ring specimen is designed and fabricated based on the surface micromachining process to facilitate the measurement of the Poisson's ratio. The Poisson's ratio can be obtained through analyzing the linear load-displacement relationship of the double ring specimen subjected to nano-indenter loading. The Present nano-bending mehod is an in-situ measurement approach due to the compatibility to the surface micromachining process. The Poisson's ratio is locally obtained at the location of the double ring specimen with micro dimension. To validate the nano-bending method, the Poisson's ratio of LPCVD (Low Pressure Chemical Vapor Deposition) poly-silicon with thickness of 2.3㎛ is investigated. Experimental results reveal that the Poisson's ratio of the poly-silicon film is 0.2569. The standard deviation of the nano-bending measurement for the stiffness of double ring specimens is 2.66%.

Bonded CFRP Plate method used murk in reinforcement method is very efficient for stress increment of reinforced members. But CFRP plate dosen't display enough its capacity and have the destruction characteristic of premature failure that reach failure by debond plate, because near-surface-bond using epoxy. Such destruction character of reinforced specimens take the influence at variables as steel reinforcement ratio, concrete strength, kind of reinforcement materials, reinforced length, property of epoxy used in binder and so on. In this study, performed experiment results are compared and considered on flexural performance of Near Surface Mounted Reinforcement used CFRP-Rod, as complement about structural behavior of RC beam reinforced flexural capacity in CFRP plate and premature failure of reinforcement material. Main variables of RC beam applied CFRP Plate external bond method are experimental variables as reinforcement length, reinforcement position (tension face and side face of beam) and existence of ironware in end parts. In case of CFRP-Rod, variable is reinforcement length.
Traditionally, Korean ink painting used paper as a background medium. This tradition has sought a new attempt to meet today's demands while its expressive techniques and mediums become more diverse. The attempt of Korean ink painting to explore new mediums could change both its structure and style when considering the significance of the medium in the work. These new attempts have encouraged a further study of 'Korean Traditional Paper'. Today, 'Korean Traditional Paper' is considered to be an object itself rather than just being a background. In other words, there is no implication of a separation between the medium 'Korean Traditional Paper' and the work. Instead, the medium itself becomes the work. Therefore, 'Korean Traditional Paper' is not only a 'background' that contains the artist's desire to express, but at the same time also an 'object'. This study focuses on the attributes of 'Korean Traditional Paper' as an object, examines how this is visually applied in contemporary Korean ink painting in the relation to 'Korean Beauty', and reviews the work of some artists that use Korean Traditional Paper. The use of Korean Traditional Paper as an object first began with the experimental techniques of Lee , Eung-Noh and Kwon, Young-Woo in the 1960s, Then it seemed to stop for a while in the 1970s and 1980s until there was a renewed interest in the material personality of Korean Traditional Paper with the birth of the 'Korean Traditional Paper Artists Association' in the 1990s. This interest increased and Korean Traditional Paper was earnestly adopted by artists like Yim, Hyo Lee, Ki-Sook Won, Moon-Ja and Choi, Moo-Young, who used the paper in Broussonetia, the previous fibered state of rice paper. Here, the expression of the object through the characteristics of Korean Traditional Paper is a visual experiment to discover Korea's traditional art mediums that were forgotten once, focusing on the manifestation of Korean Beauty through Korean Traditional Paper. In this respect, this attempt has a valuable meaning in its use with a contemporary visual sense , based on the Korean sense of beauty.
To estimate the stability of a debris flow it is necessary to know the mass of surface soil, cohesion, slope, and friction angle. Given that the mass of surface soil is a function of soil thickness and mass density, it is important to obtain reliable estimates of soil thickness across a wide area. The objective of this paper is to estimate soil thickness using the elastic wave velocity with a new standard velocity. Tests are performed in debris-flow hazard areas, after which four profiles are selected to obtain the elastic wave velocity. Dynamic cone penetration tests are carried out to find the soil thickness at 18 points. The elastic wave velocity shows the area consists of 3~4 layers, and soil thicknesses are predicted by utilizing the new standard. The elastic wave velocity and dynamic cone penetration tests yield large differences in soil thickness. Therefore, this study shows that the new standard is useful not only in estimating soil thickness but also in improving the reliability of estimates of soil thickness.
Analogue physical modelling using granular materials (i.e., sandbox experiments) has been applied with great success to a number of geological problems at various scales. Such physical experiments can also be simulated numerically with the Discrete Element Method (DEM). In this study, we apply the DEM simulation to the collision between the Indian subcontinent and the Eurasian Plate, one of the most significant current tectonic processes in the Earth. DEM simulation has been applied to various kinds of dynamic modelling, not only in structural geology but also in soil mechanics, rock mechanics, and the like. As the target of the investigation is assumed to be an assembly of many tiny particles, DEM simulation makes it possible to treat an object with large and discontinuous deformations. However, in DEM simulations, we often encounter difficulties when we examine the validity of the input parameters, since little is known about the relationship between the input parameters for each particle and the properties of the whole assembly. Therefore, in our previous studies (Yamada et al.,2002a,2002b,2002c), we were obliged to tune the input parameters by trial and error. To overcome these difficulties, we introduce a numerical biaxial test with the DEM simulation. Using the results of this numerical test, we examine the validity of the input parameters used in the collision model. The resulting collision model is quite similar to the real deformation observed in eastern Asia, and compares well with GPS data and in-situ stress data in eastern Asia.

In this paper, the structural weakness analysis and quality improvement of small fixed wing UAV of the hard landing type were studied. Unlike conventional aircraft, small UAV does not use runways because of its small size. Instead, small UAV use hand launch takeoff and hard landings. This type has many operational advantages because it can take off and land in a narrow space. But, the hard landing has a strong impact on the structure of the UAV and can cause serious damage. In order to analyze the exact cause of this phenomenon, the structural analysis was carried out using the 3D structural analysis program (ABAQUS) to identify the location of the fracture. And to improve the accuracy of the structural analysis, properties of the material were obtained through specimen test. As a result of the analysis, structural weaknesses were identified and improved. Thus, the validity of the study was verified by demonstrating the quality of enhanced structure through a real impact test at a higher level of 1.5 times the maximum impact during operation.

Investigations of underground cavities are required to provide useful information for the reinforcement design and monitoring of the ground subsidence areas. It is, therefore, necessary to develop integrated geophysical techniques incorporating different geophysical methods in order to accurately image and to map underground cavities in the ground subsidence areas. In this study, we conducted geophysical investigations for development of integrated geophysical techniques to detect underground cavities at the field test site in the ground subsidence area, located at Yongweol-ri, Muan-eup, Muan-gun, Jeollanam-do. We examined the applicability of geophysical methods such as electrical resistivity, electromagnetic, and microgravity to cavity detection with the aid of borehole survey results. The underground cavities are widely present within the limestone bedrock overlain by the alluvial deposits in the test site where the ground subsidences have occurred in the past. The limestone cavities are mostly filled with groundwater or clays saturated with water in the site. The cavities, thus, have low electrical resistivity and density compared to the surrounding host bedrock. The results of the study have shown that the zones of low resistivity and density correspond to the zones of the cavities identified in the boreholes at the site, and that the geophysical methods used are very effective to detect the underground cavities. Furthermore, we could map the distribution of cavities more precisely with the study results incorporated from the various geophysical methods. It is also important to notice that the microgravity method, which has rarely used in Korea, is a very promising tool to detect underground cavities.
In case of prosthesis fabrication by CAD/CAM, location, area and contour of occlusal contacts can be adjusted so more functional occlusion can be acquired. Also, errors in a manufacturing process is reduced compared to cast metal prostheses and porcelain fused metal prostheses fabricated by conventional methods such as casting and porcelain build up. Therefore, prostheses by CAD/CAM show superior occlusion accuracy. Recently, virtual articulator function has been introduced to CAD/CAM system, which reproduces mandibular movement against maxilla. Thus, it is possible to consider occlusal interference in anterior/lateral movement as well as closing movement. There have been many studies on the marginal and internal fit of prostheses using zirconia but the occlusal fit of zirconia crown fabricated by CAD/CAM has not been researched as much. In this case report, 7 zirconia crowns were designed and fabricated by CAD/CAM for total 5 patients. The models of zirconia crowns before and after occlusal adjustment during intraoral try-in were scanned for occlusal contacts, which were compared to evaluate accuracy of prostheses and understand patterns of occlusal adjustment. Most of the occlusal adjustments were done on functional cusps and slopes of zirconia crown, and the magnitude of occlusal adjustment ranged from $15{\mu}m$ to $60{\mu}m$. In the zirconia crown fabricated with CAD/CAM systems, the occlusal adjustment is a necessary procedure, so additional procedures will be needed for compensating reduced mechanical properties.

A conventional elastic material replacement and performance evaluation are very complicated and time-consuming, and it is difficult to know when to replace the elastic material in advance. By comparing with the product limit and the functional limit, the necessity of elastic material replacement and the improvement of track support stiffness according to replacement can be immediately demonstrated based on experimental data. Using an evaluation system of track support stiffness, the performance evaluation data for elastic materials obtained through field tests using software for track support stiffness is integrated and managed on the administrator's computer. Therefore, the replacement plan is established and maintenance history is managed by identifying the replacement time and location of elastic materials. It is possible to evaluate the performance and condition of the elastic material at the various points during the working time of the track inspection and the track performance (track support stiffness) and durability of the elastic material (aging level, spring stiffness variation rate, etc.) at the operation condition. The elastic material could be replaced timely, and the deterioration of the elastic material can be continuously monitored.

The subjects of the study are the sedimentary rock slope of the Mesozoic Gyeongsang Supergroup, which has a high risk of failure. The rocks of the slope shall be sandstone, siltstone and dacite, and discontinuities shall develop beddings, shear joints, extension joints, and dacite dyke boundary planes. The type and scale of failure varies depending on the type of rock and the strike/dip of the discontinuities, but the planar failure prevails. Based on the face-mapping data, SMR, physical and mechanical testing of rocks, the critical equilibrium analysis, all representative sections required a countermeasure method because the acceptable safety factor during dry and rainy seasons were far below Fs=1.5 and Fs=1.2. After applying the countermeasure method, both the dry and wet conditions of the slope exceeded the allowable safety factor. In particular, the face-mapping data of the slope-face, the geological cross-sections of several representative sections perpendicular to the slope-face, and the critical equilibrium analysis and the presentation of countermeasure methods that have been reviewed based on them are expected to be reasonable tools for the slope stability.
