원심압축기의 공력소음 저감에 관한 설계연구 Part I : 성능해석 및 소음예측 (A Design Study of Aerodynamic Noise Reduction in Centrifugal Compressor Part I : Performance Analysis and Noise Prediction)

  • The objective of this research is to suggest anoise prediction method for a centrifugal compressor. It is focused on the Blade Passing Frequency component which is regarded as the main part of the rotating impeller noise. Navier-Stokes solver is used to simulate the flow-field of the centrifugal compressor, and the time-dependent pressure data are calculated to perform the near-field noise prediction by using Ffowcs Williams - Hawkings formulation. Indirect Boundary Element Method is applied to consider the noise propagation effect. Pressure fluctuations of the inlet and the outlet in the centrifugal compressor impeller are presented and the sound pressure level prediction results are compared with the experimental data.

  • This study describes the results of the analysis of measured rotating stall signal in a centrifugal compressor with vaneless diffuser. Unsteady flow and rotating stall in vaneless diffuser were investigated by measuring of unsteady velocity fluctuation using hot-wire anemometer. Experiments were carried out in several impeller rotating speeds, at different radius ratios. Single hot -wire was used to study the characteristics of rotating stall. As a result, the abrupt rotating stall was detected at all measured impeller rotating speeds and the several flow coefficients which are less than 0.16. The number of the stall cell was one at all measured rotational speeds, and the rotating direction was the same as that of the impeller. As the flow rate decreased, the profile of the phase averaged radial velocity component with time changed from a sawtooth to a sine wave.

  • Upgrade development of a high pressure ratio centrifugal compressor in marine engine turbochargers is presented. A new matched operating point at increased speed of rotation was determined through system cycle analysis using the exisitng test data of turbine performance. Under some severe restrictions for geometric parameters, the state-of-the-art methods of both aerodynamic design and CFD analysis were applied, in which only an impeller, a vaned diffuser and some part of casing wall were modified. Prototype hardware was fabricated and assembled for system performance tests. Excellent performance in pressure ratio and efficiency was obtained over whole speed region. Reduced surge and choke margin was, however, observed at design speed of rotation.

  • The aim of this paper is to understand the unsteady flow phenomena in a high speed centrifugal compressor channel diffuser. Instantaneous pressures are measured at six locations in the diffuser using fast-response pressure transducers. Instantaneous pressure ratio decomposition was applied to analyze the pressure signal. In vaneless space where impeller-vaned diffuser interaction is strong, aperiodic unsteadiness is high and periodic pressure waveforms by blade passing are not clear at low flow rates, especially near vane suction side. High aperiodic unsteadiness decreases downstream of diffuser. The blade-to-blade pressure wave does not disappear in surge flow condition. In surge there exist not only large scale periodic surge wave but also blade-to-blade pressure wave.

  • A three-dimensional CSCM upwind flux difference splitting Navier-stokes code with two-equation turbulence models was developed to predict the transonic flows in centrifugal compressor diffuser. The k-$\epsilon$ model of Abe et al. performed well in predicting the pressure distribution in the shock wave/turbulent boundary-layer interaction. Three turbulence models predicted the similar distribution of static pressure through the diffuser and showed a good agreement with the experimental results. The secondary flows in the corner were predicted well by these turbulence models. The pressure increase before the throat of the diffuser vane is important for the overall pressure recovery. As the mass flow rate increased the blockage decreased at the throat. The pressure coefficient distribution through the diffuser depended on the throat blockage not on the rotational speed of the impeller.

  • The performance of a centrifugal compressor composed of an impeller, tandem diffuser rows and axial guide vanes has been predicted numerically and compared with available experimental results on its design rotational speed. The pitchwise-averaged mixing plane method was employed for the boundaries between rotor and stator to obtain steady state solutions. The overall characteristics showed differently according to the relative positions of tandem diffuser rows while the characteristics of impeller showed almost identical. The numerical results agree with the measured data in respect of their tendency. It turned out that 0% of relative positions is the worst case in terms of static pressure recovery and efficiency. According to the experimental results, some pressure fluctuations and malfunction of the compressor were observed for 75% case. However, this numerical calculation using mixing plane method did not capture any of those phenomena. Thus, unsteady flow calculation should be performed to investigate the stability of the compressor caused by different diffuser configuration.

  • In this paper, the effect of circumferential inlet distortion on performance and stall has been experimentally investigated in a high-speed centrifugal compressor, comparing distorted cases with undistorted one. The performance of compressor was slightly deteriorated by defect of inlet static pressure which is caused by the circumferential inlet distortion. As stall was fully developed the inlet distortion did not affect the number of stall cell and the propagation velocity. It also did not affect stall inception at 40,000 and 50,000 rpm. However stall occurred at the lower flow rate for distorted flow at 60,000 rpm. For 50,000 rpm a unexpected phenomenon occurred : stall occurred first and then it disappeared.

  • 원심압축기 운전 중에 발생하는 고주기 피로균열이나 공진 등은 임펠러 파손의 주된 원인이다. 이러한 파손을 회피하기 위해 공진영역 운전에서도 견딜 수 있는 충분한 강도의 임펠러를 설계하거나, 공진이 발생하지 않도록 임펠러를 튜닝 한다. 이러한 회피설계는 임펠러 내부유동 및 성능특성 변화를 야기하게 된다. 본 연구에서는 밀폐형 임펠러에 대해 블레이드 두께를 증가시킨 모델과 스켈럽을 적용한 모델에 대한 유동 및 성능특성을 파악하기 위해 전산해석을 수행하였다. 전산해석 결과, 블레이드 두께 증가 모델 경우는 기본모델 대비 압력계수가 0.5% 감소하였으며, 전효율은 0.1% 감소하였다. 스켈럽 적용모델은 압력계수가 0.4% 증가하였으며, 전효율은 1.6% 감소하였다.
