Objective : This study aimed to identify common activities with similar participation levels between community-dwelling individuals in the United States (US) and South Korea (Study 1), and analyze the changes in activity participation patterns across the adult lifespan in South Korea (Study 2). Methods : We administered the online survey-based Activity Card Sort version 3 (ACS-3) to adults living in the US and South Korea. In Study 1, we computed the average participation level and visualized 100 activities of the ACS-3 from both the US and Korean samples. The average participation level across the four age groups in Study 2 was calculated and visualized to understand the changes in patterns of involvement across the four ACS-3 domains in a Korean sample. Results : In Study 1, data from 161 Americans and 163 Koreans were analyzed. Of the 100 activities, 48 (instrumental: 20; leisure: 13; fitness/health: 6; social: 9) demonstrated similar levels of participation between the two samples. In Study 2, data from 420 Koreans were analyzed and a tendency for decreased participation with age was found in all domains, except for the instrumental domain. Conclusion : Common daily activities may be used as a means of intervention across cultures in occupational therapy. Protective approaches and support are recommended to optimize older adults' participation in daily life.

We evaluated the effect of the ginsenoside Re on insulin resistance of glucose transport in muscles of rats made insulin resistant with a high fat diet. After a week of adaptation period to the laboratory environment, 40 male wistar rats were randomly assigned into 2 groups (Chow diet group; CD, n = 20, High fat diet group; HFD, n = 20). After 5-week of high fat diet, Food was removed after 6:00 PM the day before the experiment. The following morning, rats were anesthetized by an intraperitoneal injection of pentobarbital sodium (50 mg/kg body wt), and the soleus muscles were removed. Before incubation, the soleus muscle was split longitudinally into strips with an average weight of 15~20 mg. After the muscle dissection was completed, the abdominal cavity was opened, and the epididymal, mesenteric, and retroperitoneal fat pads were removed and weighed. Treatment of muscles with ginsenoside Re alone had no effect on glucose transport. The high fat diet resulted in ~50% decreases glucose transport rate in soleus muscles. Treatment of muscles with ginsenoside Re in vitro for 90 min completely reversed the high fat diet-induced insulin resistance of glucose transport in soleus muscles. This effect of ginsenoside Re is specific for insulin stimulated glucose transport, as Re treatment did not reverse the high fat diet-induced resistance of skeletal muscle glucose transport to stimulation by contraction. Our results show that the ginsenoside Re induces a remarkably rapid reversal of high fat diet-induced insulin resistance of muscle glucose transport.

Since the Korean Meteorological Society was organized in 1963, the climate dynamics fields have been made remarkable progress. Here, we documented the academic developments in the area of climate dynamics performed by members of Korean Meteorological Society, based on studies that have been published mainly in the Journal of Korean Meteorological Society, Atmosphere, and Asia-Pacific Journal of Atmospheric Sciences. In these journals, the fundamental principles of typical ocean-atmosphere climatic phenomena such as El Niño, Madden-Julian Oscillation, Pacific Decadal Oscillation, and Atlantic Multi-decadal Oscillation, their modeling, prediction, and its impact, are being conducted by members of Korean Meteorological Society. Recently, research has been expanded to almost all climatic factors including cryosphere and biosphere, as well as areas from a global perspective, not limited to one region. In addition, research using an artificial intelligence (AI), which can be called a cutting-edge field, has been actively conducted. In this paper, topics including intra-seasonal and Madden-Julian Oscillations, East Asian summer monsoon, El Niño-Southern Oscillation, mid-latitude and polar climate variations and some paleo climate and ecosystem studies, of which driving mechanism, modeling, prediction, and global impact, are particularly documented.

This study highlights the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology on journalism, discussing its utility and addressing major ethical concerns. Broadcasting companies and media institutions, such as the Bloomberg, Guardian, WSJ, WP, NYT, globally are utilizing AI for innovation in news production, data analysis, and content generation. Accordingly, the ecosystem of AI journalism will be analyzed in terms of scale, economic feasibility, diversity, and value enhancement of major media AI service types. Through the previous literature review, this study identifies key ethical and social issues in AI journalism as well. It aims to bridge societal and technological concerns by exploring mutual development directions for AI technology and the media industry. Additionally, it advocates for the necessity of integrated guidelines and advanced AI literacy through social consensus in addressing these issues.

The Olin Library in St. Louis was an important design competition for the United States in the 1950's, the rear of America's modern architecture. The participants of this competition were a variety of representative architects and groups of its time. With the library's functional rationality, the Olin Library competition was legible of the aspects of modern architectural flow. The competition required two demands. The first demand was absolute importance in character definition of place, which was to satisfy the site conditions approached from campus design. Secondly was related to interpretation of morphological symbolism in an architectural matter. The experiments of American modern architecture started to change its ideal goal gradually ; accommodating the altering public's code, at the same time, maintaining the original modern value was the reason to changing the ideal goal. As a turning point, the Olin Library should be understood as an important work, which divulged the value change of architectural interpretation.

This study identified effects of Isoegomaketone for applicable patch on the arthritis in mice. Isoegomaketone (IK) was isolated from Perilla frutescens, which is annual herbal traditional medicinal, aromatic, functional food. IK has various physiological effects such as anti-inflammation, anti-oxidant, and anti-cancer. In the previous study, oral administration of IK to a mouse model of collagen antibody-induced arthritis(CAIA), which is similar to human rheumatoid arthritis(RA), alleviated symptoms. In this study, we attached a patch containing IK to mouse skin to demonstrate whether it had the same efficacy as oral administration in CAIA mouse. As a result of measuring the arthritis score, paw volume, and paw thickness, it was confirmed that arthritis symptoms were alleviated in the group to which the patch containing IK was attached. These results show that IK is effective in alleviating arthritis not only through oral administration but also through patches applied to skin, and that it has potential as a material for future patch development.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of long-term endurance exercise or resistance exercise training on muscle anabolic/catabolic pathway. 50wks-old male Wistar rats(n=30) were randomly assigned for 3 groups (sedentary, endurance exercise, resistance exercise group). After 12-week of training, plantaris muscles were dissect to measure protein level. Akt/mTOR signal-related proteins were significantly increased only after resistance exercise training, but catabolic signal-related proteins, FoxO1 and MuRF1, were significantly decreased after resistance and endurance exercise training. After endurance exercise training, AMPK and PGC-1α protein levels were significantly increased. Therefore, the endurance exercise training has been shown to affect the protein balance of aging muscle through inhibition of muscle protein catabolism. The present results suggest the possibility that not only resistance exercise but also endurance exercise will be affectable to keep or increase muscle volume and capacity of middle-aged people.

For agricultural products, supply is irregular due to changes in meteorological conditions, and it has high price elasticity. For example, if the supply decreases by 10%, the price increases by 50%. Due to these fluctuations in the prices of agricultural products, the Korean government guarantees the safety of prices to producers through small merchants' auctions. However, when prices plummet due to overproduction, protection measures for producers are insufficient. Therefore, in this paper, we designed a business model that can be used in the electronic transaction system by predicting the price of agricultural products with an artificial intelligence algorithm. To this end, the trained model with the training pattern pairs and a predictive model was designed by applying ARIMA, SARIMA, RNN, and CNN. Finally, the agricultural product forecast price data was classified into short-term forecast and medium-term forecast and verified. As a result of verification, based on 2018 data, the actual price and predicted price showed an accuracy of 91.08%.

The present study investigated the relationship between the perceptions of social change and subjective well-being, and the effectiveness of coping resources in such a relationship by comparing the structural equation models of the samples obtained in two countries (Korea and the United States). Participants in two countries reported their perceived pace of social change, evaluation of social change, subjective well-being, personal resources(self-esteem and self-efficacy), and social resources. Based on the survey data, a structural equation models was developed and compared across two samples to examine the moderation effects of coping resources by culture and nations. As a result, it was revealed that the perceived pace of social change affected subjective well-being through the mediation of the evaluations of social change and that there were differences in the effectiveness of coping resources: social resources had stronger effects for the Korean sample whereas personal resources had stronger effects for the U.S. sample. Discussions on the psychological impact of a new type of social stress, social change, is included.

This study analyzed universities's entrepreneurship education curriculum and variety programs through visiting to five entrepreneurship centers. Through these analyzes, the study presents a basic frame work for prosperous entrepreneurship education in Korea. We have selected for visiting research universities in the middle east of the United states; University of Iowa, University of Missouri(Kansas City), Saint Louis University, University of Louisville and George Washington University. We visited entrepreneurship center of each university in order to have in-depth interview with professor who is responsible for building entrepreneurship curriculum and administrative director of entrepreneurial programs so that we research how university progresses entrepreneurship education at undergraduate level. The study, at the time of 61 universities selected for LINC project by the Korea Ministry of Education who expects Industrial-Academia cooperative effects just installed each entrepreneurship center, analyzed case study of operational practice and entrepreneurship education curriculum for the effective operation of entrepreneurship centers in universities. We believe that the study will be able to provide a richer and more accurate information and ideas since the all the analysis is based on the firsthand interview by visiting.
