Analysis of Bus Drivers' Working Environment and Accidents by Route-Bus Categories : Using Digital TachoGraph Data (노선버스 운송업종별 운전자의 근로여건 및 사고 분석 : DTG 데이터를 활용하여)

  • The accident of mass transit such as a bus could draw the large casualties and this induces social and economic losses. Recently, severe bus accidents caused by tiredness and inattention of bus drivers occurred and those lead to growing interest in bus accidents and the drivers' work environment. Therefore, this study analyzes the accident based on the work environment of bus drivers and route-bus categories. For the research, this study collected digital tachograph data and the bus company information for 271 domestic bus companies in 2017 and used ANOVA test and chi-square test as statistical methodologies. As a result, we figured out there are statistically significant differences in the accident according to the working environments. Especially, the present study confirmed the intracity bus with working every other day has the most frequent accidents. We expect that the results of this study be used as foundations for the improvement of working conditions to reduce route-bus accidents in the future.

Study for Failure Cases on Engine Electronic Control Computer in Liquid Petroleum Gas vehicle (액화석유가스 자동차 엔진의 전자제어 컴퓨터의 고장사례 연구)

  • The purpose of this paper analyzes and studies to improve the failure cases on the computer that one of electronic control elements for engine in liquified petroleum gas vehicle. The first case, it certified the non-starting phenomenon of engine that it's electronic control unit didn't control the fuel for idle speed actuator because of no given action signal in slow-cut solenoid valve. The second case, it knew the bad condition phenomenon of engine and back-fire by the wire melting of ignition coil and firing of transistor being inside ECU. The third case, it certified the action stoping phenomenon of engine and malfunctioning signal for engine ECU because of leakage of current and an excess current by moisture inflowing inside ECU curcuit plate. Therefore, it is thought that will elevate the durability and reliability of engine computer throughout procure of quality.

A Comparative Study on Fuel Consumption Depending on The Use of Lift Axle (가변축 사용여부에 따른 연료소모량 비교 연구)

  • As a Lift axle is an additional axle installed mostly in heavy freight truck, It"s introduced for the purpose of cost saving, such as logistics, fuel, tire wear and prevention of the pavement damage. However, the Effects of a lift axle are anecdotal and they have occurred often that a lift axle is used improperly by expectations of some drivers. For these reasons, this study conducts a field experiment in order to identifying the change rate of fuel consumption due to an a Lift axle using, develops the fuel consumption model of field data, and then compares the effects of a Lift axle using through application of the model. As a result, fuel consumption decreased in loading conditions that are both empty and full when not using a lift axle.

  • This paper presents an algorithm that evaluated the overload influence by bus upon the distribution system by calculating the daily load curve of PEVs charging by bus based on the daily charging patterns of PEVs according to PEVs penetration scenarios. The proposed algorithm calculates the number of PEVs to estimate the number of households by bus; the probability density function of the charging start time of PEVs, considering driving characteristics of PEVs and the daily load curve of PEVs charging by bus considering battery characteristics according to PEVs penetration scenarios. To verify the evaluation of the overload influence by bus on the distribution system in terms of the proposed algorithm, the cases were reviewed on the target bus(apartment and detached houses) among the feeders of the distribution systems at Dongtan new-town in Korea.

Development and Validation of Safety Performance Evaluation Scenarios of Autonomous Vehicle (자율주행 안전성 평가 시나리오 개발 및 검증)

  • Regulation for the testing and operation of automated vehicles on public roadways has been recently developed all over the world. For example, the licensing standards and the evaluation technology for automated vehicles have been proposed in California, Nevada and EU. But specific safety evaluation scenarios for automated vehicles have not been proposed yet. This paper presents safety evaluation scenarios for extraordinary service permission of automated vehicles on highways. A total of seven scenarios are selected in consideration of safety priority and real traffic situation. Six scenarios are relevant with lane keeping and one scenario is relevant with lane change. All scenarios are developed based on existing ADAS evaluation scenarios and repeated simulation of automated vehicle algorithm. Safety evaluation factors as well as scenarios are developed. The safety factors are based on existing ADAS ISO requirements, ADAS safety factors and current traffic regulations. For the scenarios, a hunter vehicle is needed in addition to automated vehicle evaluated. The hunter vehicle performs multiple roles like preceding vehicle, cut-in vehicle and so on. The hunter vehicle is also automated vehicle equipped with high performance GPS, radar and Lidar. All the scenarios can be implemented by driving a lap on a KATRI ITS test track. These scenarios and safety evaluation factors are investigated via both a computer simulation and an experimental vehicle test on the test track. The experimental vehicle test was conducted with two automated vehicles, which are the evaluated vehicle and the hunter vehicle.

A Study on the Sloshing Reduction of a Cargo Fuel Tank with Baffle (배플을 적용한 Cargo용 연료탱크 내부의 슬로싱 저감 연구)

  • Recently sloshing that fluid in fuel tank is undulating by the external force during motion of automobile, ship and aircraft is greatly affecting by damaging the inside of structure. It's most important to precisely analyze the behavior of fluid by computational fluid dynamics for minimizing the effect of sloshing for the loaded fuel. This study characterized volume of fluid and pressure according to the length and number of vertical baffle and horizontal baffle in fuel tank for Kia Frontier cargo and analyzed for reduction of sloshing during driving on corner and hill by using ADINA-CFD. As a result of analysis, the optimum length for sloshing reduction shows 0.19 m for vertical baffle and 0.08 m for horizontal baffle. And it shows that vertical baffle is better for the reduction effect of sloshing during driving on corners, on the other hand, horizontal baffle is effective and stable during driving on hills.

Interference Suppression Based on Switching Beamforming for TPMS (스위칭 빔형성기 기반의 TPMS 용 간섭제거 기술)

  • A TPMS is a wireless communication system designed to monitor its condition inside the pneumatic tires on various types of vehicles. These systems report the tire pressure information to the driver of the vehicle. While wireless communications is used to transmit the measurement data from TPMS sensors to a central processing unit in the vehicle, it suffers from the various interferences such as sensors of each tire or outside electrical equipments. Based on the conventional beamformer, a switching beamforming technique is proposed to minimize the interference and efficiently receive valid data. Moreover, in order to minimize the interference and reduce power consumption for communication, a system with unique Gold Code is presented for each tire. The performance of interference suppression is illustrated by computer simulations.

Influential Factors for NO_X Reduction Performance of Urea-SCR System for an In-use Medium Duty Diesel Engine (중형 운행 경유차용 Urea-SCR 시스템의 아랫첨자 $NO_X$ 저감성능에 미치는 영향인자)

  • This study is a part of project of urea-SCR system development for an in-use medium duty diesel engine. This study shows the effect of ammonia oxidation catalyst and SCR volume on $NO_X$ reduction performance. When AOC(Ammonia Oxidation Catalyst) is not used, the urea injection should be controlled accurately to prevent $NH_3$ slip. However, it is found that the accurate $NH_3$ slip control is not easy without AOC in real engine operating conditions, because $NH_3$ and $NO_X$ reaction characteristics change with many factors such as exhaust gas temperature and $NH_3$ absorbance on SCR. SCR volume is also one of important design parameters. This study shows that $NO_X$ reduction efficiency increases with increase of SCR volume especially at high space velocity and low exhaust gas temperature conditions. Additionally, this paper shows the emissions of EURO-2 medium duty diesel engine can be improved to the level of EURO-5 with a DPF and urea-SCR system.

  • The remarkable change in the automobile industry, which is a traditional industrial field, is now evolving into a form of moving toward autonomous functions rather than humans due to various convenience functions and automatic driving or autonomous driving technologies if the person was central when driving the car. This situation is expanding to various industries such as the aviation industry and the drone market, as well as the robot market. The drone market in the aviation industry is being used in various fields due to the unmanned nature of drone operation. Among them, military drones are secret and due to the specificity of technology, details are not disclosed, but as a collection of advanced technologies, they have played a key role in drone development. In this study, the current status of China and the European Union, including the United States, which are major competitors in the drone field, was investigated, and the technologies of major countries were compared and analyzed through the characteristics and operational specifications of the drones currently in operation.

An Analysis of Effectiveness and Development of Warrant to Transform Y-Type Intersection into Roundabout (Y형 교차로의 회전교차로 변형에 따른 적용효과 분석 및 설치준거 연구)

  • A ROUNDABOUT is more effective way to improve safety and prevent delays than signal intersection. ROUNDABOUT has been known highly safe treatment that could be used as a method to reduce conflicts between vehicles, to reduce travel speed in inner or approach of intersection, and to have no speed difference between drivers than intersection. In this study, the effective analysis on the installation of ROUNDABOUT was carried out using computer-based simulation tool VISSIM, in order to evaluate performance and safety of ROUNDABOUT and develope a warrant. In conclusion, the results indicated that there was remarkable increase of Y-intersection capacity and decrese of delay, and improvement of traffic safety. Finally, A nice feature of this study is to firstly attempt to use microscopic simulator to evaluate the effectiveness of ROUNDABOUT and suggest a passible operation boundary.
