Interpretation for Band-Type Indication on Radiography of 9% Ni Steel Welds for LNG Storage Tanks (액화천연가스 저장탱크 9% 니켈강 용접부의 방사선투과시험 필름에 나타나는 밴드형상의 지시 해석)

  • 9% nickel alloy steels used for LNG, cryogenic liquid, storage tank are welded with dissimilar Inconel or Hastelloy welding rod and the weldment shows similar characteristic with the dissimilar metal weld of low carbon steel and austenitic stainless steel. Band type indications are sometimes shown on the film during radiography test of the weldments. Thus this study identified whether the indications are non-relevant indications through material, radiographic test, ultrasonic test, liquid penetrant test and microstructure analysis and also proposed radiography film interpretation and cause of band type indications.

  • Mo 변화에 따른 Cr-Mo 강의 미세조직 및 물성병화를 알아보기 위해 새로 디자인된 용접봉을 사용하여 Flux cored arc welding(FCAW) 공정으로 용접하였다. 또한 고온에서의 용접부 물성을 알아보기 위하여 각각의 시편을 $400^{\circ}C$, $500^{\circ}C$, $600^{\circ}C$, $700^{\circ}C$에서 24시간 동안 열처리 하였다. 용접부의 미세조직은 미세한 베이나이트 및 침상 페라이트로 구성되었으며 Mo의 함량이 높아질수록 베이나이트 조직이 증가하여 경도 및 강도가 증가하였다. 높은 항복강도와 인장강도를 가지며 연신율이 매우 낮음을 관찰하였다. 열처리후의 미세조직은 $400^{\circ}C$, $500^{\circ}C$는 템퍼드 베이나이트 조직이 나왔으나 $600^{\circ}C$에서 베이나이트 조직이 성장하였다. $700^{\circ}C$ 로 갈수록 베이나이트가 감소하고 페라이트로 미세조직이 변태 하였으며 탄화물의 석출 및 성장이 관찰되었다. 이로 인하여 경도값이 $400^{\circ}C$, $;500^{\circ}C$ 에서 증가하였고 $600^{\circ}C$는 소폭 감소하였으며 $700^{\circ}C$의 경우 완전 페라이트 조직의 형성으로 경도가 크게 감소하고 Mo 함량에 따른 경도 차이 또한 보이지 않았다.

  • The effects of Ti addition in welding wire on the spatter generation and the droplet transfer phenomena were investigated. With increasing Ti content the spattering rate was decreased but the ratio of large size spatter (D $\geq$ 1. 0mm) was increased in both short circuit and globular transfer mode of $CO_2$welding. In short circuit transfer region, the arcing time was increased and the droplet transfer frequency was decreased with increasing Ti content In globular transfer region, the transition current and voltage to globular transfer was lowered and the welding condition region for stable globular transfer was widened with increasing Ti content.

  • As rail steel at a crossing area must undergo much higher loading than those at regular railway, Mn-alloyed steel is normally used for its high load-carrying capability and reduced wear rate. However, as these Mn-alloyed steel is tend to have casting defects, manufacturing cost to produce defect-free Mn-alloyed steel becomes quite expensive. Therefore, in order to replace Mn-alloyed steel, we performed build-up welding using CH-90 and investigated regarding to wear characteristics of build-up weld metal.

  • The aim of present study is to investigate the effect of welding parameters and heat treatment conditions on the formability of the laser welded silicon steel sheet. It was found that there is optimum range of the heat input ($0.6{\sim}0.7kJ/cm$) and gap distance ($0.125{\sim}0.150mm$) for the high tensile strength and the avoidance of the fracture in weld metal, Also, it was essential for the improvement of formability to perform pre- and post-welding heat treatment which cause the uniform mixture of base metal and welding consumable.

However, as these Mn-containing casting steel is tend to have casting defects, manufacturing cost to produce defect-free Mn-containing casting steel becomes quite expensive. Therefore, in order to investigate the possibilities of replacing expensive Mn-containing casting steel with a mild steel with a surface build-up using a Mn-alloyed steel electrode.
