Optimal Wrist Design of Wrist-hollow Type 6-axis Articulated Robot using Genetic Algorithm (유전자 알고리즘을 이용한 손목 중공형 6축 수직다관절 로봇의 최적 손목 설계에 관한 연구)

  • In arc-welding applying to the present automobile part manufacturing process, a wrist-hollow type arc welding robot can shorten the welding cycle time, because feedability of a welding wire is not affected by a robot posture and thus facilitates high-quality arc welding, based on stable feeding with no entanglement. In this paper, we will propose the optimization of wrist design for a wrist-hollow type 6-Axis articulated robot. Specifically, we will perform the investigation on the optimized design of inner diameter of hollow arms (Axis 4 and Axis 6) and width of the upper arm by using the simulation of robot motion characteristics, using a Genetic Algorithm (i.e., GA). Our simulations are based on $SolidWorks^{(R)}$ for robot modeling, $MATLAB^{(R)}$ for GA optimization, and $RecurDyn^{(R)}$ for analyzing dynamic characteristics of a robot. Especially $RecurDyn^{(R)}$ is incorporated in the GA module of $MATLAB^{(R)}$ for the optimization process. The results of the simulations will be verified by using $RecurDyn^{(R)}$ to show that the driving torque of each axis of the writs-hollow 6-axis robot with the optimized wrist design should be smaller than the rated output torque of each joint servomotor. Our paper will be a guide for improving the wrist-hollow design by optimizing the wrist shape at a detail design stage when the driving torque of each joint for the wrist-hollow 6-axis robot (to being developed) is not matched with the servomotor specifications.

  • Laser aided Direct Metal Tooling(DMT) process is a kind of Additive Manufacturing processes (or 3D-Printing processes), which is developed for using various commercial steel powders such as P20, P21, SUS420, H13, D2 and other non-ferrous metal powders, aluminum alloys, titanium alloys, copper alloys and so on. The DMT process is a versatile process which can be applied to various fields like the mold industry, the medical industry, and the defense industry. Among of them, the application of DMT process to the mold industry is one of the most attractive and practical applications since the conformal cooling channel core of injection molds can be fabricated at the slightly expensive cost by using the hybrid fabrication method of DMT technology compared to the part fabricated with the machining technology. The main objectives of this study are to provide various characteristics of the parts made by DMT process compared to the same parts machined from bulk materials and prove the performance of the injection mold equipped with the conformal cooling channel core which is fabricated by the hybrid method of DMT process.

  • Since High Tensile Steel has been widely used to thin plate on the steel structure and marine structure, It has increased possibility of buckling. Especially, initial deflection of ship structure is mainly caused by heat processing of welding or cutting etc. This initial deflection has negative effect to thin plate, which would incur a complicated nonlinear behavior accompanied with secondary buckling. If idealized initial deflection is considered in early marine structure design of secondary buckling, accuracy and reliability will be improved considerably. The measurement data of initial deflection from experiment is applied to finite element series analysis. For FEA(ANSYS), Applied nonlinear buckling analysis is used by Newton-Raphson method & Arc-length method included in this program.

  • A liquid rocket engine fuel-rich gas generator has been developed for the first time in the country, which can produce combustion gas over the rate of 4 kg/s at 900 K and 58 bar. The gas is not only for driving a turbopump but also for providing heat source for propellant supply tanks. The final design of the gas generator had been fixed based on the concept and preliminary development tests, and was validated through structure and heat transfer analysis. The manufacturing involved precision machining, surface finish, and special welding technique. The final assessment on the characteristics of ignition and combustion had been carried out for two different versions of injector heads. This concluded that the present product satisfies the development requirements such as spatial temperature distribution and the development has been successful.

  • An experimental study on performance characteristics of an evaporative heat exchanger based on tests for various operating conditions was presented. The heat exchanger maximizes the heat transfer rate per unit volume by applying mini-channels for both the air and coolant flow paths, and minimizes the amount of the coolant by using its latent heat of evaporation. The heat exchanger was manufactured by etching the flow paths, brazing the heat exchange plates, and welding the in/out ports of the media. The basic performance test has confirmed that the heat exchanger met its design requirements, and the results of the map test were analyzed to produce the performance characteristics quantitatively depending on the air inlet temperature, the air flow rate, and the coolant flow rate.

Longi direction of compressive load interacts and analyzed finite element series analysis that apply various kinds initial deflection shape measured actually on occasion that is arranged simply supported condition in this research. Applied ANSYS (elasto-plasticity large deformation finite element method) to be mediocrity finite element program for analysis method and analysis control used in Newton-Raphson method & Arc-length method.

  • SHOP DWG의 현주소 어디까지 왔는가? 설계에서 제조에 이르는 전 과정을 컴퓨터로 제어하고 관리하는 기술. 캐드(CAD)와 캠(CAM)은 각각 computer-aided design,computer-aided manufacturing의 약칭으로 컴퓨터보조설계와 컴퓨터보조생산을 뜻한다. CAD는 설계도면을 한 장씩 수작업으로 제도하지 않고 설계 데이터베이스의 정보를 CRT(cathode ray tube)에서 화상을 보고 합성하면서 설계하므로 작업을 최적화 할 수 있다. CAD로 설계된 설계도의 내용은 CAM을 통해 NC(수치제어)공작기계에 정확한 작업동작을 지시하게 되며, 작업관리∙가공∙조립∙검사 등의 제조과정을 컴퓨터로 관리하여 작업속도와 제품의 정밀성을 높이게 된다. 최근에는 건축현장의 2D system이 보편화되어 있지만 건축현장의 핵심이라고 할 수 있는 기계설비의 기계실, 또는 조립화 공법 등에는 3차원 CAD∙CAM시스템이 개발되어 입체형상을 화면에 3차원으로 재현할 수 있고, 대상물의 표면적∙부피∙무게∙강도 등의 물리적 성질도 자동 계산하여 최적상태에서 현장의 시공에 적용할 수 있게 되었다. 1960년대 초 미국에서 자동차 모델∙엔진, 항공기 부품 등 의 설계에 수작업의 한계를 느껴 개발되었으며, 한국에서는 70년대 중반에 도입되어 운용되고 있다. 이에 따라 프로그램 회사들은 다양한 방법 등을 SHOP DWG에 적용하여 판매경쟁이 치열하다.   • A system for EMAT, which generates ultrasound by electro-magnectic forces and performs nondestructive testing in noncontact, was established. By linking it with a 3 axis scanning system and a data acquisition and processing system the automation of EMAT testing was attempted. A EMAT sensor was fabricated and the directivity pattern of it was measured. To be suitable automation, it has a transmitter and a receiver in one case and the main beam direction of it can be controlled by the frequency of driving signal. A program which controls the EMAT system, the 3 axis scanner and the data acquisition and processing system was developed. It also processes acquired data and displays the processing results. IBM-PC/AT compatible PC was used as main controller and the stratage of the program is emulation of real devices on the PC monitor. To provide the performance of the established EMAT system, two aluminium blocks containing artificial flaws and a welded aluminium block were tested. The result of the tests were satisfactory.

  • Joint paths of master and branch pipes are induced mathematically for many kinds of joint patterns between both pipes in 3-axis pipe profile-cutting machines. By compensating them with a kerf width, the real cutting paths are determined, and their CL-data are generated, and the tool paths generated by CL-data are verified by a ghost function. A bevelling of welds is implemented through tilting a cutting torch in the $\beta$-axis direction for 8 sections in the chuck rotation of $\alpha$-axis. A PLC controls simultaneously position and velocity in a real time for $\alpha$, X, $\beta$-axis by loading CL-data generated. We developed the PLC-controlled 3-axis pipe profile-cutting system which can cut a master or branch pipe along the cutting path and simultaneously do a bevelling process.
