Purpose: To investigate the relationship between dementia and complete tooth loss on both sides or one side using large demographic data. Materials and methods: A retrospective cohort study was designed using the National Health Insurance Service-Elderly Cohort Database (NHIS-ECD) which was established for people over the age of 60. The experimental group was the complete edentulous cohort, which had a history of treatment for national health insurance covered complete denture on both sides or one side from July 1, 2012 to December 31, 2013. And the control group was the dentulous cohort, which had a history of conservative dental treatment for the same period. All subjects had no history of diagnosis or treatment of dementia during this time. These cohorts were matched 1:1 by age, gender, and place of residence according to the propensity score matching method. Then the incidence of dementia was compared between these cohorts. Results: Compared with those groups, the incidence of dementia was significantly higher in the experimental group (12.13%) than in the control group (9.74%) (P<.05). No clear association between other factors has been identified. Conclusion: The analysis of large-scale demographic data shows that the incidence of dementia is high in complete edentulous patients on both sides or one side.

Loss of teeth may not only imply impaired oral function and loss of alveolar bone but is also often accompanied by reduced self-confidence. This results in a larger problem with the fully edentulous patient. The patient introduced in this study showed multiple missing teeth and mobility of remaining teeth and wanted to have fixed dental prosthesis using implants. Remaining teeth were extracted because of periodontally bad prognosis. This article reports a satisfactory clinical and esthetic outcome of full mouth rehabilitation using implant hybrid prosthesis in fully edentulous patient.

There are various approaches to treatment for patients with fully edentulous jaw. In maxilla, it is easy to obtain sufficient stability, support, and retention with the traditional full denture method. In mandible, however, there are difficulties caused by anatomical limitations. In this case, treatment with implants can be considered. If it is difficult to place implants in posterior area, a fixed complete denture can be considered, using 4 - 5 implants anterior to mental foramen. This approach has changed in many ways, such as surgical methods and materials used, over the years. This case report compares two approaches and their changes over time, especially in the cases of mandibular fixed prostheses using implants, paired with maxillary complete denture.

In edentulous patients, the advantages of prosthodontic therapy using oral implants include both stability and comfort. Advantages suggested for this approach include the prevention of mandibular bone resorption and increased masticatory function. Implant hybrid prostheses place 4 to 6 implants between the mental foramens, and cantilevers are used to replace the posterior teeth at both ends. The 85 - year - old female patient visited our clinic with complete edentulism in the maxilla and mandible. This article reports a satisfactory clinical and esthetic outcome of full mouth rehabilitation using removable complete denture in the maxilla and implant hybrid prosthesis in the mandible.

It is difficult to provide prosthodontic treatment to fully edentulous patients with severe alveolar bone resorption, because this makes patents hard to endure functional load, and to adapt to the dentures, which result in emotional stress to patients. Implant supported overdenture can be chosen to solve these problems. Among several types of them, the implant retained and tissue supported overdenture, is available to the patients of low masticatory force with the reduced cost. Attachments also can be used for increasing retention and esthetics in dentures. Especially, $Locator^{(R)}$ system needs a small vertical interarch space for restoration and is able to compensate the difference of angle between fixtures. In this study, we restored maxilla with conventional complete denture, and mandible with implant and tissue supported overdenture and $Locator^{(R)}$ system.

In order to treat edentulous patients with fixed implant prosthesis, the final prosthesis form should be predetermined based on the anatomic structures of the arch, the opposing dentition, and the occlusal plane. The design and occlusion of the interim prosthesis can provide useful information when fabricating the definitive prosthesis. In this case report, scan data of the edentulous region and the interim prosthesis were superimposed through an intraoral scanning digital workflow. In this way, the interim prosthesis information was incorporated into the design of the final prosthesis. Furthermore, the interim prosthesis data acquired through intraoral scanning was utilized to plan the positions and angles of the implants based on the final prosthesis design. Surgical guides were used to accurately place the implants in the planned three-dimensional positions. In this case report, satisfactory esthetic and functional clinical outcomes were achieved through application of digital techniques.
