Design of Remote Field Eddy Current Sensor for Water-Wall Tube Inspection using Simulation (시뮬레이션을 활용한 유동층보일러 수냉벽튜브 검사용 원격장 와전류 탐상 센서 설계)

  • Thermal power generation accounts for the highest percentage of domestic power generation, among which coal-fired boiler generation accounts for the highest percentage. Coal boilers generate harmful substances and fine dust during coal combustion and have a serious effect on air pollution. So, fluidized-bed boilers have been introduced as eco-friendly coal boilers. It uses a fluid medium which affect the combustion temperature of coal. Because of it fluidized-bed boilers emit less pollutants than original one. Water-wall tubes play an important role in this fluidized bed boiler. Due to the fluid medium, the wall damage is more severe than the existing boiler. However, there is no quantitative maintenance technique in Korea yet. Remote field eddy current testing is a non-destructive evaluation technique that is often used for inspection of inner and outer wall of tube. it can inspect with non-contact and high speed. However, it is an inspection that proceeds from inside the pipe, and the water-wall tube is not able to enter the interior. In this study, we designed and simulated an external remote field eddy current sensor suitable for water-wall tube of a fluidized - bed boiler using simulations. By obtaining a signal similar to the existing remote field eddy current test, the criteria for the external remote field eddy current sensor design can be presented.

Development of Open-Connect Type Eddy Current Transducers for the Detection of Surface Flaws in Continuous Pipeline (연속된 배관의 결함 검출을 위한 개폐식 와전류 탐촉자 개발)

  • The open-connect type eddy current transducer for the flaw detection in continuously connected pipelines was developed. This eddy current transducer is for the on-line inspection of the tubes in industries, to which commercial encircling probes are not applicable. The excitation coil that consists of a ribbon type cable and a flat connector can be opened and closed on purpose. The sensing coils of this transducer are circumferentially arrayed near the outside of the tube wall but axially displaced from the exciter by about one and half tube diameter. In application to steel tubes, and the performance of this transducer was evaluated as a little behind those of magnetic saturation type in signal to noise ratio and flaw size decision, but usable to detect or to locate large size flaws in steel tubes. Surface cracks deeper than 19% of the tube thickness could be detected with good signal to noise ratio.

  • As interest in the reduction of energy loss has increased in recent years, analysis of losses in power cables is becoming more important. The overall loss in the transmission system can be measured, but there are many difficulties in researching the loss in each internal structure. There are various factors in the type of loss, and the loss of external factors by previous research has been studied. However, there is little research on the cable internal loss. Since the metal sheath inside the cable is made of aluminum having a high conductivity, an eddy current is generated due to the current flowing in the conductor, thereby causing an eddy current loss inevitably. In this paper, the eddy current loss in metal sheath of 154 kV Cable was researched through FEM (Finite Element Method) electromagnetic analysis.

Eddy Current and Ultrasonic IRIS Signal Characteristics of Reboiler Tube by Using STS 316L Calibration Specimen (STS 316L 교정시험편을 이용한 재가열기 튜브의 와전류신호와 초음파 IRIS 신호 특성)

  • In this study, a field applicability of reboiler tube was evaluated by comparing ECT signal with IRIS signal about wall loss rate and remaining wall thickness using worked austenite STS 316L ASME standard calibration tube. In the case of wall-loss rate, as a result, tolerance about $20%{\times}4$ flat bottom hole and 10% O D groove(ECT), 80% defect and 10% O D groove(IRIS) occurred up to ${\pm}15%$. In the case of remaining wall thickness, ECT was satisfied with the both tolerance, but tolerance about 80% defect occurred up to ${\pm}15%$ in IRIS. Therefore, if the IRIS is performed for interpretation of non-relevant indication and measurement of wall-loss rate after ECT, reliability is supposed to be improved.

  • 본 논문은 컨버터용 변압기의 여자전류 해석을 통해 DC 성분 유입시 자속밀도-여자전류 곡선 그래프를 도출하여 철심포화 여부를 확인하며, 철심 공극에 의해 발생되는 누설자속(Leakage Flux)으로 인한 철구조물(Lock Plate)의 와전류 손실을 계산하였다. 변압기 해석을 위해 상용 해석 소프트웨어인 Maxwell 3D를 이용하였고, 철심의 비선형성을 고려하여 해석하였다.

  • 공극이 있는 인덕터의 임피던스는 공극 내에 도전율이 있는 물체가 삽입 될 때, 와전류가 발생하여 임피던스의 변화가 생긴다. 이 현상을 이용하여 도체의 종류 및 불순물을 판단할수 있는 장치를 구현하였다. 이를 위해 자기회로법을 이용하여 인덕터를 설계하였고, 전자장 시뮬레이션을 통해 특성을 해석하였다. 또한 실제 시스템을 구현함으로써 해석결과와 실험결과를 비교하였다.

  • 이번 호부터 해설란을 통하여 비파괴검사(非破壞檢査) 기술(技術)에 대한 연재를 시작한다. 앞으로 비파괴검사(非破壞檢査) 기술(技術) 각 분야에 대해 다룰 예정이며 우선 1차적으로 와전류탐상법(渦電流探傷法)에 관해 3회에 걸쳐 게재하기로 한다. 특정한 비파괴검사(非破壞檢査)의 전문가가 아니더라도 쉽게 이해할 수 있도록 가급적 수식은 배제하고 기초적인 이론을 소개할 것이며 특히 현장 적용에 중점을 두어 기술(記述)하고자 한다. 본 원고에서는 원거리 와전류탐상법(渦電流探傷法)(remote field eddy current testing) 이나 펄스 와전류탐상법(渦電流探傷法)(pulsed eddy current testing)과 같은 특수 와전류(渦電流) 기술(技術)은 제외하였으며 본 연구실에서 내부 교육용으로 사용하는 "와전류탐상법(渦電流探傷法) Level I 과정"과 미국금속학회에서 발행한 Metal Handbook, 9th ed., Vol. 17, "Non-destructive Evaluation and Quality Control" 및 기타 관련 기술 자료들을 참고하였으나 일일이 명기하지는 않는다.

Application of Eddy Current Sensor for Measurement of TBM Disc Cutter Wear (TBM 디스크커터의 마모량 측정을 위한 와전류센서의 적용 연구)

  • If the disc cutter is excessively worn or damaged, it becomes incapable of rotating and efficiently cutting rockmass. Therefore, it is important to appropriately manage the replacement cycle of the disc cutter based on its degree of wear. In general, the replacement cycle is determined based on the results of manual inspection. However, the manual measurements has issues related to worker safety and may lead to inaccurate measurement results. For these reasons, some foreign countries are developing the real-time measurement system of disc cutter wear by using different sensors. The ultrasonic sensors, eddy current sensors, magnetic sensors, and others are utilized for measuring the wear amount of disc cutters. In this study, the applicability of eddy current sensors for real-time measurement of wear amount in TBM disc cutters was evaluated. The distance measurement accuracy of the eddy current sensor was assessed through laboratory tests. In particular, the accuracy of eddy-current sensor was evaluated in various environmental conditions within the cutterhead chamber. In addition, the measurement accuracy of the eddy current sensor was validated using a 17-inch disc cutter.

A Basic Study on Eddy Current Testing of End-Cap Welds (봉단 용접부 와전류탐상의 기초적인 연구)

  • In nuclear fuel manufacturing process, end-closure welding has long been recognized as requiring very high integrity. In this basic study, ECT(eddy current testing) method for end-closure welding has been developed to detect end cap weld discontinuities for nuclear fuel safety. In order to improve the inspection reliability, the maximum scanning speed and the maximum frequency is investigated for end-closure welding inspection. The bandpass filter(0-250Hz) is used for removing noise effects. This study shows that ECT method is effective and sensitive for the detection of small defect(0.35mm diameter).
