A finite element analysis is used in this study to model 6 kinds of electrode by a genetic program in order to evaluate the mechanical effect on the 3D human cochlea model and the behavior of electrode. Human cochlea is modeled by the spiral-approximation method and the shape of scala tympani is extracted from the mid section of the human cochlea. Contact pressure at the tip and the insertion force are found to be highest when the wires stack horizontally. Axial rotation of electrode is minimal comparing with the stimulating current spread. The results indicate that the electrode stiffness is important to minimize the trauma.

In recent years, ultrasonic has been widely applied in measurement and industrial fields and its application range has been expanded as a result of continuous research and development. Wire Bonding Machine, an instrument fabricating semi-conductor, makes use of ultrasonic bonding method. Specially, the method utilizes the longitudinal vibration of ultrasonic transducer composed of piezoelectric vibrator and horn. This work investigates the design conditions affecting the dynamic characteristics through the theretical and experimental analysis. It conducts separately the system identification of piezoelectric vibrator in time domain and the modal analysis of horn in frequency domain. The integrated modeling is conducted via a combbination of dynamic identification of piezoelectric vibrator and theroretical analysis of horn. Then comparison is made for theroretical and experimental results of the dynamic characteristics of the ultrasonic transducer comprised of piezoelectric vibrator and horn. Form the results of the comparison we develop the design technique of ultrasonic transducer using dynamic characteristics analysis and propose the possibility of ultrasonic bonding considering the optimal conditions for the longitudinal vibration of ultrasonic transducer and other conditions.

In this study, the characteristic of a 3-D micro-woven material, which is one of the newly developed periodic open-cell structure, is analyzed through various computational simulations. To increase the accuracy of the numerical simulations, the distance between each directional wire is parameterized using six design variables, and its model geometry is precisely discretized using tetrahedron elements. Using the improved computational model, the material properties of the mechanical, thermal, and fluidic behavior are investigated using commercial software and compared with the previous experimental results. By changing the space between the x- and y-directional wires, a parametric test is performed to determine the tendency of the change in the material properties. In addition, the correlation between two different material properties is investigated using the Ashby chart. The result can further be used in determining the optimal pattern and wire spacing in 3-D micro-woven materials.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the differences of displacement pattern depending on type of sliding jig and application method during maxillary molar distalization with temporary anchorage devices (TADs). Materials and Methods: Maxilla with normal tooth size and arch shape was selected to create a 3-dimensional finite element model, which included the bracket, orthodontic main archwire, removable sliding jig (R-jig). The orthodontic mini-implant anchorage was set 8 mm superiorly from main archwire, buccally between the second premolar and first molar. The base experimental design was Condition 1, which was composed $0.019{\times}0.025$ inch stainless steel (SS) of wire size of R-jig, 200 gm force, un-tied state. And the other designs varied to wire size of R-jig, magnitude of force. The results are as follows. Results: As the wire size of R-jig was increased, the deformation of R-jig was decreased. However, the displacement of second molar wasn't different each other. As the force to second molar was increased, the more displacement of second molar was observed, and the more distal tipping movement, vetical displacement was observed. Conclusion: R-jig can get distal teeth movement in orthodontic treatment without side effects.

Aluminum alloy which is one of the light materials has been tried to apply to light weight vehicle body. In order to do that, welding technology is very important. In case of the aluminum laser welding, the strength of welded part is reduced due to porosity, underfill, and magnesium loss. To overcome these problems, laser welding of aluminum with filler wire was suggested. In this study, experiment about laser welding of AA5182 aluminum alloy with AA5356 filler wire was performed according to process parameters such as laser power, welding speed and wire feed rate. The tensile strength was measured to find the weldability of laser welding with filler wire. The models to estimate tensile strength were suggested using three regression models and one neural network model. For regression models, one was the multiple linear regression model, another was the second order polynomial regression model, and the other was the multiple nonlinear regression model. Neural network model with 2 hidden layers which had 5 and 3 nodes respectively was investigated to find the most suitable model for the system. Estimation performance was evaluated for each model using the average error rate. Among the three regression models, the second order polynomial regression model had the best estimation performance. For all models, neural network model has the best estimation performance.

Hull design data is currently prepared by a 2D CAD system and re-input to 3D CAD systems specialized for detail design or to a structural analysis system. In this paper, sharing design data among different CAD systems has been studied. Based on STEP methodology, a neutral model is generated from 2D AutoCAD drawings. To handle a geometric data of this model, the non-manifold model of ACIS is used because it can support various CAD data representation such as 2D graphic entities, 3D wireframe, 3D surface model, and solid B-Rep/CSG model. It is observed that a mon-manifold model can easily be transformed to a 3-D wireframe model for the hull detail design system AutoDef or a FE model for the structural analysis system Nastran.

In this paper, we proposed an approach to efficiently compress and transmit multiresoltion 3D lariat models for multimedia and very low bit rate applications. A personal facial model is obtained by a 3D laser digitizer, and further re-quantized at several resolutions according to different scope of applications, such as animation, video game, and video conference. By deforming 2D templates to match and re-quantize a 3D digitized facial model, we obtain its compressed model. In the present study, we create hierarchical 2D lariat wireframe templates are adapted according to facial feature points and the proposed piecewise chainlet affined transformation(PACT) method. The 3D digitized model after requantization are reduced significantly without perceptual loss. Moreover the proposed multiresoulation lariat models possessed of hierarchial data structure are apt to be progressively transmitted and displayed across internet.
Usefulness and clinical availability for surgery efficiency were evaluated by conducting pre-operative planning with a model manufactured by desktop 3D printer by using clavicle CT image. The patient-customized clavicle fracture model was manufactured by desktop 3D printer of FDM wire laminated processing method by converting the CT image into STL file in Open Source DICOM Viewer Osirix. Also, the model of the original shape before damaged was restored and manufactured by Mirror technique based on STL file of not fractured clavicle of the other side by using the symmetry feature of the human body. For the model, the position and size, degree of the fracture was equally printed out. Using the clavicle model directly manufactured with low cost and less time in Department of Radiology is considered to be useful because it can reduce secondary damage during surgery and increase surgery efficiency with Minimal invasive percutaneous plate osteosynthesis(MIPO).

In rapidly developing urban areas that include high-rise, large, and complex buildings, indoor and outdoor maps in GIS become a basis for utilizing and sharing information pertaining to various aspects of the real world. Although an indoor mapping has gained much attentions, research efforts are mostly in 2D and 3D modeling of terrain and buildings. Therefore, to facilitate fast and accurate construction of indoor GIS, this paper proposes a semi-automatic method consisting of preprocessing, 2D mapping, and 3D mapping stages. The preprocessing is designed to estimate heights of building interiors and to identify noise data from point clouds. In the 2D mapping, a floor map is extracted with a tracing grid and a refinement method. In the 3D mapping, a 3D wireframe model is created with heights from the preprocessing stage. 3D mesh data converted from noise data is combined with the 3D wireframe model for detail modeling. The proposed method was applied to point clouds depicting a hallway in a building. Experiment results indicate that the proposed method can be utilized to construct 2D and 3D maps for indoor GIS.
