  • MTBE(Methyl Tertiary Butyl Ether)는 PMMA(Poly Methyl Methacrylate)를 생산하기 위한 석유화학 중간원료로 사용되는 것이 일반적이나, 무연휘발유 사용의 세계적인 추세에 힘입어 (정유산업에 있어서 그 수요가 날로 증가하고 있으며) 정유산업의 옥탄가 문제를 해결해 주는 유효적절한 수단으로 보급이 확대되고 있는 실정이다. 여기에서는 MTBE의 전반적인 특성 및 사용에 따른 효과 및 장단점을 소개하고자 한다.

  • This study is a part of the project that investigates a possibility of using methyl/ethyl butyrate as an alternative material of MTBE. To investigate characteristics of the two materials, a 2.0L 4-cylinders SI engine that was coupled to an 160kw EC engine dynamometer was used and operated several conditions. Two exhaust gas analyzer was used to measure CO, NOx and THC of after and before of a catalyst. Also, to compare combustion characteristics of the fuels a combustion analyzer was used for measuring pressure of inside of a cylinder. The results show no special difference between MTBE and the two materials from the emission and combustion characteristics aspect.

  • This study examined the combustion characteristics and emissions, fuel economy, acceleration by selecting the two fuel with octane number difference to investigate the effect on the combustion characteristics and performance of the vehicle according to the octane number. First, a single-cylinder engine was used for the combustion characteristic experiment, Of the fuel, which is distributed on the market by the selection of two different octane fuel it is performed experiments. Single cylinder experiment examined the combustion characteristics that appear when you gradually advancing the ignition timing by the ignition timing and air-fuel ratio control for each fuel and through an output, emissions, pressure, hence examined the correlation between by octane number. In addition through the actual vehicle compared the changes in the fuel octane number difference, through acceleration tests examined the impact of the octane number requirements for high-performance segment. As a result, fuel of high octane number in accordance with the ignition timing the advancing showed a slightly stable combustion characteristics, a slight increase occurred in the acceleration test and power. However, both fuel does not significantly differ from the current mode, simulating the urban and highway fuel efficiency. Therefore, the operating conditions of the vehicle currently being sold on the Effects of high-octane fuel. fuel efficiency was found insufficient.

  • 본 고에서는 녹킹현상과 녹킹 발생의 결과, 그리고 녹킹과 연료와의 관계등에 대해 개략적으로 설명하려 한다. 녹킹 발생 유무는 흡입공기상태, 스로틀 열림정도, 연소실 형상, 스파크 점화시기, 화염 전파속도 및 연료의 자연 발화 특성에 관계되며 화염 전파속도와 end-gas에 있는 연로의 반응속도와의 경쟁이라 볼수 있다. 연료의 녹킹 발생에 대한 저항성을 나탄내는 척도가 옥탄가이며 옥탄가가 높을 수록 자연 발화하기 어려우므로 녹킹이 잘 일어나지 않는다.

  • The research and motor octane numbers (RON & MON, respectively) of a gasoline are dynamic measures of its quality of performance as a fuel. ASTM standard engine test methods (RON:ASTM D-2699, MON:ASTM D-2700) have been used for determining the octane numbers (RON,MON)of gasolines. But these methods have been widely criticized because their repeatability and reproducibility of the test method are very poor. In addition to these objections, the cost and operation time involved in measuring by the standard method led to searches for "non -engine" methods (Gas Chromatographic method, Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopic method). In this study, we determined the carbon type structural compositions of the gasolines by $^{13}C-NMR$ spectroscopy and predicted the octane number (RON & MON) with good accuracy. we presented an assessment of the effects of molecular structural composition on octane numbers.

A Study over Catalytic Behavior Octane Enhancer, TAME Synthesis with Ion Exchange Resin Catalysts (이온교환수지 촉매를 이용한 옥탄가 향상제인 TAME 합성반응의 연구)

  • TAME synthesis was studied in a fixed bed reactor with 3 different types of exchanged resins i.e, Amberlyst-15, Amberlyst-15(wet) and Amberlyst XN-1010. Amberlyst-15 has highest activity, presumably due to the higher reaction participation of the inner active sites of gel shape microparticular resin structure. The optimum reaction conditions for TAME synthesis were found as follows ; reaction temperature of $135^{\circ}C$, molar ratio(MeOH/I.A.A) of 1.0~4.0 and W/F of 2.0~4.0 gr.-cat. hr/gr.-mole. The cross-linking bond of styrene divinyl benzene was observed at $2{\theta}=20$ in XRD pattern. The DSC analysis showed that the thermal stability was in order of Amberlyst-15>Amberlyst-15(wet)>Amberlyst XN-1010. The apparent activation energies of TAME synthesis reaction with Amberlyst-15, Amberlyst-15(wet) and Amberlyst XN-1010 were 12.36, 12.46 and 14.72 kcal/mole, respectively.

  • Synthesis of ETBE as an octane number enhancer from ethanol and isobutene in a flow reactor under atmospheric pressure was studied. Amberlyst-15 and Amberlyst XN-1010 were used as catalysts within the temperature range of $70-140^{\circ}C$. The activity of Amberlyst 15 was higher than that of Amberlyst XN-1010. The reaction rate data obtained under differential reactor condition were tested by a linear regression method to determine the reaction mechanism and kinetic parameters. The ETBE synthesis reaction seems to be proceeded via the LHHW(Langmuir-Hinshelwood-Hougen-Watson) machanism. The activation energy of the surface reaction was estimated by the reaction rate constants as well as the adsorption equilibrium constants. Apparent activation energies are 18.64 and 24.19kcal/mol for Amberlyst-15 and Amberlyst XN-1010, respectively.
