Analytical Study on the Optimized Design of Engine Bearings for a Passenger Car (자동차용 엔진베어링의 최적설계에 관한 해석적 연구)

  • In this paper, the minimum oil film thickness and the maximum oil film pressure of engine bearings have been analyzed by using the elastohydrodynamic theory and Taguchi's design method as functions of the oil groove width, oil hole diameter, oil hole position, and oil supply pressure. The optimized design of the engine bearing f3r an automotive Diesel engine is very important for supporting a load-carrying capacity due to gas pres-sures from the engine combustion chamber and inertia forces of the piston. The optimized design data of engine bearings indicated that the optimized oil groove width and an oil diameter of a engine bearing are 8mm at the speed of 2,000 rpm for a given 4-cylinder Diesel engine. Thus, the oil groove oil groove and an oil hole for high performances of an engine bearing may be considered as major design parameters compared to other design factors, which are strongly related to the minimum oil film thickness and the maximum oil pressure distribution of the engine oil.

Effect of Oil Groove Shapes on the Characteristic of the Flow Rate at the Journal Bearing with Vertical Type (수직형 저널 베어링의 유량특성에 대한 그루브 형상의 영향)

  • As journal bearing has a sliding motion between the shaft and bearing with lubricating oil, it produces a hydrodynamic lubrication condition. Journal bearing can receive a large force because it takes a distributed load at the large friction face. As the oil groove or oil hole is made in the journal bearing surface for the journal bearing smoothly working under a hydrodynamic lubrication condition, sufficient lubricating oil is supplied through the clearance of journal bearing. The performance of the journal bearing is changed according to the shapes, sizes and positions of an oil groove. In this paper, the flow rate according to the oil groove shapes (triangle, semicircle and rectangle) among the various oil supply conditions was measured. The shape that discharges the highest flow rate was observed and the groove shape of optimal performance for the journal bearing was determined. The results showed that the flow rate increases with decreasing operating temperature, the influence of temperature on the flow rate decreased with increasing rotational speed, and flow rate in the triangular groove shape was greater than in other shapes.

  • Fossil fuel causes the greenhouse effect by emitting $CO_2$, and an estimated amount of oil deposits are also limited. Therefore, people have been interested in alternative energies. Vegetable oil which is one of the alternative energies is eco-friendly renewable energy source and has similar properties like diesel oil with high efficiency. Also, vegetable oil has been well recognized as one of solutions to reduce the greenhouse effect caused by $CO_2$release. In this study, we chose Waste vegetable oil(WVO) to solve the problems of high price of grain and lack of food. Impurities and sediments from WVO were removed by separation process using sieves of $15{\mu}m$pore size. Blending was performed in Homo-mixer by 5000 rpm for 10 min. We investigated viscosities and Iodine values in different compositions of WVO and diesel oil blends. Finally, we could find out blended oils have some possibility to be used in the diesel engine.

Molecular Structures and Catalytic Mechanism of Bacterial Lipases. (세균성 리파제의 분자구조와 작용기작)

  • Bacteria produce lipases, which can catalyze both the hydrolysis and the synthesis of long chain triglycerides. These reactions usually proceed with high regioselectivity and enantioselectivity, and, therefore, lipases have become very important biocatalysts used in organic chemistry. 3D lipase structures were solved from several bacterial lipases. They have an $\alpha/\beta$ hydrolase fold and a catalytic triad consisting of a nucleophilic serine, and an aspartate or glutamate residue that is hydrogen bonded to a histindine. Active sites are covered with $\alpha$-helical lid structure, of which movement is involved in the enzyme's activation at oil/water interface. Four substrate binding pockets were identified for triglycerides: an oxyanion hole and three pockets accommodating the fatty acids bound at positions sn-1, sn-2, and sn-3. These pockets determine the enantiopreference of a lipase. The understanding of structure-function relationships as well as the development of molecular evolution techniques will enable researchers to tailor new lipases for biotechnological applications.

A Study of Properties and Coating Natural Mineral Pumice Powder of in Korea (한국산 천연 광물 부석 파우더 코팅 및 특성에 관한 연구)

  • This study is based on a coating method that provides utilization value as a micronised powder for cosmetic raw materials using natural minerals buried in Bonghwa, Gyeongsangbuk-do in Korea. The mineral powder name is called Buseok, and chemical name is pumice powder. The results of a study on the efficacy of cosmetics are reported by the development of particulate powder to assess the performance of this powder. First of all, in order to coat the surface of this powder with oil, aluminum hydroxide was coated on the particulate surface and then coated with alkylsilan. In addition, it was coated with vegetable oil to prevent condensation of the powder and increase the dispersion in the oil phase. First; the particle size of pumice powder was from 10 to 50mm having porous holes on the surface of the particles. Second; The components of this powder contained $SiO_2$, $Al_2O_3$, $Fe_2O_3$, MgO, CaO, $K_2O_2$, $Na_2O$, $TiO_2$, $TiO_2$, MnO, $Cr_2O_3$, $V_2O_5$. Third: The particles of this powder have a planetary structure and are reddish-brown with porosity through SEM and TEM analysis. Fourth; the far-infrared radiation rate of this parabolic powder was $0.924{\mu}m$, and the radiative energy was $3.72{\times}102W/m^2$ and ${\mu}m$. In addition, the anion emission is 128 ION/cc, which shows that the coating remains unchanged. Based on these results, it is expected to be widely applied to basic cosmetics such as BB cream, cushion foundation, powderfect, and other color-coordinated cosmetics, sunblock cream, wash-off massage pack as an application of cosmetics. Verification of Stereotactic Target Point Achieved by Acquisition of MR Image in Actual Treatment Position of Radiosurgery (정위적 방사선 수술시 치료위치에서의 정위적 표적점 확인을 통한 자기공명영상 획득의 정확도 연구)

  • To make practical application of the MR image for stereotactic radiosurgery, the target point-achieved by acquisition of MR image in stereotactic radiosurgery planning system must agree with the actual isocenter of irradiation in real treatment. And the amount of distortion of the MR image must be known to make a correction for the agreement. A radish containing abundant water content was chosen as a homogeneous phantom for the purpose of verification of the agreement in this experiment. A dosimetric film was firmly attached to the small specially fabricated acryl plate and needle puncture was made through the film just into the acryl plate and a drop of oil was dropped into the hole of the film. The acryl plate with film was inserted into the radish and the dorp of oil represented the target point in MR image. After the image acquisition by stereotatic radiosurgery planning system, we achieved stereotactic coordinate of the target point represented by the oil drop. And we proceeded to actual irradiation to the target point according to the procedure of stereotactic radiosurgery. After the irradiation, the film in the radish was developed and processed and the degree of coincidence between the center of the radiation distribution and the target point represented by the hole in the film was measured. The discrepancy between two points was under 0.5 mm. so we could confirm good coincidence in homogeneous phantom such as radish. On the other hand, authors tried to use our home-made device for estimation of distortion of MR image.
