  • 본 논문은 세그멘테이션 기반의 스테레오 정합에서 복잡한 장면 정합 시 발생되는 오 정합을 최소화 하는 방법을 제안한다. 이를 위하여, 스테레오 영상의 좌측 영상에 대해 워터쉐드 영상 분할을 이용하여 정합을 위한 feature 를 생성한 다음, 베이지언 프레임웍을 적용하여, 각각의 영역을 비슷한 변이 정보를 가진 것들로 병합한다. 생성되는 정합 패치들은 정합의 모호성이 작게 되어 오 정합이 현저히 줄어 들 뿐만 아니라, 영역간의 콘트라스트가 적은 영상에서도 신뢰할 만한 변이 영상을 생성하게 된다.

Compare the accuracy of stereo matching using belief propagation and area-based matching (Belief Propagation를 적용한 스테레오 정합과 영역 기반 정합 알고리즘의 정확성 비교)

  • The Stereo vision using belief propagation algorithm that has been studied recently yields good performance in disparity extraction. In this paper, BP algorithm is proved theoretically to high precision for a stereo matching algorithm. We derive disparity map from stereo image by using Belief Propagation (BP) algorithm and area-based matching algorithm. Two algorithms are compared using stereo images provided by Middlebury web site. Disparity map error rate decreased from 52.3% to 2.3%.

Stereo Matching Algorithm by using Color Information (색상 정보를 이용한 스테레오 정합 기법)

  • In this paper, we propose a new stereo matching algorithm by using color information especially for stereo images containing human beings in the applications such as tele-presence system. In the proposed algorithm, we first remove the background regions by using a threshold value for stereo images obtained by stereo camera and then find an initial disparity map and segment a given image into R, G, B and white color components. We also obtain edges in the segmented image and estimate the disparity from the extract boundary regions. Finally, we generate the final disparity map by properly combining the disparity map of each color component. Experiment results show better performance compared with the window based method and the dynamic programing method especially for stereo images with human being.

Comparison of error rates of various stereo matching methods for mobile stereo vision systems (모바일 스테레오 비전 시스템을 위한 다양한 스테레오 정합 기법의 오차율 비교)

  • In this paper, the matching error rates of modified area-based, energy-based algorithms, and learning-based structures were compared for stereo image matching. Census transform (CT) based on region and life propagation (BP) algorithm based on energy were selected, respectively.Existing algorithms have been improved and implemented in an embedded processor environment so that they can be used for stereo image matching in mobile systems. Even in the case of the learning base to be compared, a neural network structure that utilizes small-scale parameters was adopted. To compare the error rates of the three matching methods, Middlebury's Tsukuba was selected as a test image and subdivided into non-occlusion, discontinuous, and disparity error rates for accurate comparison. As a result of the experiment, the error rate of modified CT matching improved by about 11% when compared with the existing algorithm. BP matching was about 87% better than conventional CT in the error rate. Compared to the learning base using neural networks, BP matching was about 31% superior.

  • 본 논문에서는 스테레오 정합시에 발생하는 투영적인 왜곡을 해결하기 위해 윈도우 와핑(warping)을 이용한 새로운 스테레오 정합방법을 제안한다. 투영된 영역에의 왜곡은 고정된 윈도우를 사용해서는 변위값을 추정하기 어렵기 때문에 본 논문에서는 블록정합 시에 윈도우 와핑기법을 사용한다. 와핑이 이루어지는 지점은 이전에 구해진 변위값의 신뢰성에 근거해서 구해진다. 초기의 신뢰성과 변위값은 계층적인 정합에서 구해진다. 실험의 결과는 제안한 방법이 정합이 향상되었음을 보여준다.

  • 본 논문에서는 건물이 포함된 스테레오 영상으로부터 건물을 3차원적으로 복원하기 위한 선소 특징 기반 정합 알고리듬에 대해 다루고 있다. 기존의 선소 특징 기반 정합 알고리듬은 선소 추출 기법의 성능에 많이 의존하고, 좌우 영상에서 추출된 에지 길이와 방향이 서로 차이가 날 경우 오정합이 많이 발생한다. 따라서, 건물의 형태를 올바르게 나타내지 못하는 원인이 된다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 단점을 해결하기 위하여 선소의 중심 및 양 끝점 외에 선소에 방향까지 고려하는 새로운 탐색 영역 설정 방법을 제안하였다. 또한 선소기반 정합에서 정합이 잘 이뤄지지 않는 수평선 정합 문제를 해결하기 위한 새로운 방법을 제안하였다. 한편 편평한 건물 가정 하에서 미정합된 건물 내부의 변이값을 얻기 위해 건물 추출 결과와 정합된 선소들을 이용한 보간법을 사용하였다. 제안한 알고리듬을 스테레오 항공 영상에 적용한 결과, 기존의 Hussien 등이 제안한 알고리듬에 비해 좋은 성능을 보였다.

  • Human visual attention system has a remarkable ability to interpret complex scenes with the ease and simplicity by selecting or focusing on a small region of visual field without scanning the whole images. In this paper, a novel feature map generation and integration method for attention based visual information processing system is proposed. The depth information obtained from a stereo pair of images is exploited as one of spatial visual features to form a set of topographic feature maps in our approach. Comparative experiments show that correct detection rate of visual attention regions improves by utilizing depth feature compared to the case of not using depth feature.

  • This paper proposes a method to automatically extract stable visual landmarks from sensory data. Given a 2D occupancy map, a mobile robot first extracts vertical line features which are distinct and on vertical planar surfaces, because they are expected to be observed reliably from various viewpoints. Since the feature information such as position and length includes uncertainty due to errors of vision and motion, the robot then reduces the uncertainty by matching the planar surface containing the features to the map. As a result, the robot obtains modeled stable visual landmarks from extracted features. This extraction process is performed on-line to adapt to an actual changes of lighting and scene depending on the robot’s view. Experimental results in various real scenes show the validity of the proposed method.

  • In this paper, we present a dynamic programming(DP)-based stereo matching method using image segmentation algorithm. DP has been a classical and popular optimization method for various computer vision problems including stereo matching. However, the performance of conventional DP has not been satisfactory when it is applied to the stereo matching since the vertical correlation between scanned lines has not been properly considered. In the proposed algorithm, accurate edge information is first obtained from segmented image information then we considers the discontinuity of disparity and occlusions region based on the obtained edge information. The experimental results applied to the Middlebury stereo images demonstrate that the proposed algorithm has better performances in stereo matching than the previous DP based algorithms.

  • Object-based stereoscopic video coding scheme is presented in this paper. In conventional BMA based stereoscopic video coding for low bit rate transmission, image prediction errors such as block artifacts and mosquito phenomena are occurred. In order to reduce these errors, object based coding scheme is adopted. The proposed scheme consists of preprocessing, object extraction, and object update procedures. The preprocessing procedure extracts non-object regions having low reliability for motion and disparity estimation. This procedure prohibits extracting inaccurate objects. For the better prediction of left channel image, the disparity information is added to the object extraction. And the proposed algorithm can reduce the accumulated error through the object update procedure that detects newly emerging objects, merges objects that have the same object-disparity and object motion, and splits object which has large image prediction error. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithms improve the quality of the prediction without block artifacts and mosquito phenomena.
