An image retrieval system based on image content is a key issue for building and managing large multimedia database, such as art galleries and museums, trademarks and copyrights, and picture archiving and communication system. Therefore, the interest on the subject of content-based image retrieval has been greatly increased for the last few years. This paper proposes a feature-based image retrieval technique which uses a compound feature vector representing both of color and shape of an image. Color information for the feature vector is obtained using the algebraic moment of each pixel of an image based on the property of regional color distribution. Shape information for the feature vector is obtained using the Improved Moment Invariant(IMI) which reduces the quantity of computation and increases retrieval efficiency. In the preprocessing phase for extracting shape feature, we transform a color image into a gray image. Since we make use of the modified DCT algorithm, it is implemented easily and can extract contour in real time. As an experiment, we have compared our method with previous methods using a database consisting of 150 automobile images, and the results of the experiment have shown that our method has the better performance on retrieval effectiveness.

In digital forensic images, there is a serious problem that is distributed with various image types. For the problem solution, this paper proposes a classification algorithm of the forensic image types. The proposed algorithm extracts the 21-dim. feature vector with the contrast and energy from GLCM (Gray Level Co-occurrence Matrix), and the entropy of each image type. The classification test of the forensic images is performed with an exhaustive combination of the image types. Through the experiments, TP (True Positive) and FN (False Negative) is detected respectively. While it is confirmed that performed class evaluation of the proposed algorithm is rated as 'Excellent(A)' because of the AUROC (Area Under Receiver Operating Characteristic Curve) is 0.9980 by the sensitivity and the 1-specificity. Also, the minimum average decision error is 0.1349. Also, at the minimum average decision error is 0.0179, the whole forensic image types which are involved then, our classification effectiveness is high.

This paper proposes an improved steganalysis method based on image categorization. In general, most steganalysis methods extract the statistical moments based features which contain the global natures of images regardless of their inherent characteristics. However, the steganalysis method based on the statistical moments leads to degraded performance by applying to images with different complexity. In this paper, we decompose an 8-bit image into an upper 4-bit plane and a lower 4-bit plane, and categorize the image with two classes according to the correlation coefficient between decomposed sub-images. Two independent steganalyses can be performed for the categorized images. Since our method uses independent steganalysis technique according to the image category, it can reduce the drawback of the steganalysis methods utilizing the statistical moments. The performance of the proposed scheme is compared with well-known four steganalysis methods. Experiment results show that the proposed scheme has higher detection rate than previous methods.

In this paper, we propose a novel JPEG-2000 compressed image retrieval system using feature vector extracted through partial entropy decoding. Main idea of the proposed method is to utilize the context information that is generated during entropy encoding/decoding. In the framework of JPEG-2000, the context of a current coefficient is determined depending on the pattern of the significance and/or the sign of its neighbors in three bit-plane coding passes and four coding modes. The contexts provide a model for estimating the probability of each symbol to be coded. And they can efficiently describe texture images which have different pattern because they represent the local property of images. In addition, our system can directly search the images in the JPEG-2000 compressed domain without full decompression. Therefore, our proposed scheme can accelerate the work of retrieving images. We create various distortion and similarity image databases using MIT VisTex texture images for simulation. we evaluate the proposed algorithm comparing with the previous ones. Through simulations, we demonstrate that our method achieves good performance in terms of the retrieval accuracy as well as the computational complexity.

Recently, the grade of users using wireless communication services which transmits and re-transmits to the signal via the broadcasting satellite have a variety. However the ships not preparing of H.264 standard devices should not received the realtime data because the broadcasting stations have transmitted the compressed video data through the satellite communication. Therefore this paper proposes H.264 to MPEG-2 transcoding for the ships using MPEG-2 devices. Proposed method improves a speed and object quality in H.264 to MPEG-2 transcoding by analysis features of macroblock modes in H.264. In the Intra mode of P-frame, it proposes new method by computing coincidence proportion after comparing of Intra mode methods of H.264 and MPEG-2. In the Inter mode, it proposes a PMV(predictive motion vector) considering movement of motion vectors in H.264 decoder. we reuses a PMV directly as like the final MV in MPEG-2 encoder and refinements the MV after coincidence ratio comparing of variable motion vectors of H.264 and these of MPEG-2. The experimental results from proposed method show a considerable reduction in processing time, as much as 70% and 67% respectively, with a small objective quality reduction in PSNR.
In this paper, we propose a wavelet based fast motion estimation algorithm for video sequence encoding with very low bit-rate. By using one of properties oi wavelet transform, multi-resolution analysis(MRA) property and spatial Interpolation of an image, we are able to reduce both prediction error and computational complexity at the same time. Especially, by defining a significant block(SB) based on the differential information of wavelet coefficients between successive frames, the proposed algorithm makes up a defect of multi-resolution motion estimation(MRME) algorithm of increasing the number of motion vectors. As experimental results. we can reduce the computational load up to 70% but also improve PSNR up to about 0.1 ∼ 1.2 dB comparing with the MRME algorithm.

A micro 3D-PTV system has been constructed using a single camera system. Two viewing holes were created behind the object lens of the microscopic system to construct a stereoscopic viewing image. A hybrid recursive PTV algorithm was used. A concept of epipolar line was adopted to eliminate many spurious candidates. Three-dimensional velocity vector fields were obtained by calculating the three-dimensional displacements of particles that were identified as being identical. The system consists of a laser light source (Ar-ion, 500 mW), one high-definition camera ($1028{\times}1024$ pixels, 500 fps), a circular plate with two viewing holes, and a host computer. The performance of the developed algorithm was tested using artificial images. The characteristic of the vector recovery ratio was investigated for the particle numbers. A micro backward-facing step channel ($H{\times}h{\times}W:\;36{\mu}m{\times}70{\mu}m{\times}3000{\mu}m$) was measured using the developed measurement system. The results were in good qualitative agreement with other results.

In this paper, a method to directly calculate the major elements of skin color such as melanin and hemoglobin from the RGB signal of the camera is proposed. The main elements of skin color typically measure spectral reflectance using specific equipment, and reconfigure the values at some wavelengths of the measured light. The values calculated by this method include such things as melanin index and erythema index, and require special equipment such as a spectral reflectance measuring device or a multi-spectral camera. It is difficult to find a direct calculation method for such component elements from a general digital camera, and a method of indirectly calculating the concentration of melanin and hemoglobin using independent component analysis has been proposed. This method targets a region of a certain RGB image, extracts characteristic vectors of melanin and hemoglobin, and calculates the concentration in a manner similar to that of Principal Component Analysis. The disadvantage of this method is that it is difficult to directly calculate the pixel unit because a group of pixels in a certain area is used as an input, and since the extracted feature vector is implemented by an optimization method, it tends to be calculated with a different value each time it is executed. The final calculation is determined in the form of an image representing the components of melanin and hemoglobin by converting it back to the RGB coordinate system without using the feature vector itself. In order to improve the disadvantages of this method, the proposed method is to calculate the component values of melanin and hemoglobin in a feature space rather than an RGB coordinate system using a feature vector, and calculate the spectral reflectance corresponding to the skin color using a general digital camera. Methods and methods of calculating detailed components constituting skin pigments such as melanin, oxidized hemoglobin, deoxidized hemoglobin, and carotenoid using spectral reflectance. The proposed method does not require special equipment such as a spectral reflectance measuring device or a multi-spectral camera, and unlike the existing method, direct calculation of the pixel unit is possible, and the same characteristics can be obtained even in repeated execution. The standard diviation of density for melanin and hemoglobin of proposed method was 15% compared to conventional and therefore gives 6 times stable.
A new motion compensated frame Interpolation (MCI) algorithm by block based motion estimation (BME) is proposed. The block for the BME is composed of a large overlapped block for practical object motion estimation (ME) and a small block (which has a coinciding center with the ME-block) for the more precise motion compensated image description. Pixels in the block for the ME are sub-sampled to reduce computational complexity. The proposed method is executed with the various ME-blocks which have different size and sub-sampling ratio, and compared to the conventional method.
A real-time violence detection algorithm based on a new descriptor using the magnitude and direction changes of movement in images is proposed. The descriptor was developed from the observation that the changes of violent actions are much larger than those of normal movements. Descriptor feature vectors consisting of descriptor values during several frames are obtained and these are inputs to SVM(Support Vector Machine) classifier for discriminating violence actions from and non-violence actions. Comparison experiments between the ViF(Violent Flow) and the proposed algorithm were conducted with three different types of datasets. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm outperforms the ViF in every case.
