Imaging Findings of Peripheral Arterial Disease on Lower-Extremity CT Angiography Using a Virtual Monoenergetic Imaging Algorithm (가상의 단일 에너지 영상 재구성 기법을 이용한 하지 단층촬영 혈관조영술에서 말초 동맥 질환 영상 소견)

  • Peripheral arterial disease (PAD) is common in elderly patients. Lower-extremity CT angiography (LE-CTA) can be useful for detecting PAD and planning its treatment. PAD can also be accurately evaluated on reconstructed monoenergetic images (MEIs) from low kiloelectron volt (keV) to high keV images using dual-energy CT. Low keV images generally provide higher contrast than high keV images but also feature more severe image noise. The noise-reduced virtual MEI reconstruction algorithm, called the Mono+ technique, was recently introduced to overcome such image noise. Therefore, this pictorial review aimed to present the imaging findings of PAD on LE-CTA and compare low and high keV images with those subjected to the Mono+ technique. We found that, in many cases, the overall and segmental image qualities were better and metal artifacts and venous contamination were decreased in the high keV images.

Factors Affecting Attitude to Use Devices in Watching Video through Smart Devices (스마트기기를 통한 동영상 시청 환경에서 기기 이용 태도에 영향을 미치는 요인)

  • The dissemination of smart devices has made a lot of changes in overall social activities. In particular, people use various types of smart devices in their spare time, such as watching video clips, but there is a lack of research on external factors influencing the attitude toward using such devices. Therefore, in this study, the effects of video viewing environmental factors (e.g. screen size and video length) and personal factors (e.g. gender and need for entertainment) on perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, and attitude to use devices based on technology acceptance model. As a result of analyzing 660 users having different smart devices, the attitude to use smart devices is more positive as the screen size increases, but there is no difference according to gender. In addition, while the length of video clips does not affect the attitude to use, the need for entertainment positively affects the attitude to use. Based on the results of this study, we expect that it can be used for optimized customer marketing and management strategy that integrates product development and video content production in consideration of factors such as video viewing environmental factors and personal factors.

Atypical Manifestation of Primary Hepatocellular Carcinoma and Hepatic Malignancy Mimicking Lesions (원발성 간세포암의 비특이적 영상 소견 및 간암으로 오인될 수 있는 병변에 대한 영상의학적 고찰)

  • Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) can be diagnosed noninvasively on multiphasic CT and MRI based on its distinctive imaging findings. These features include arterial phase hyperenhancement and washout on portal or delayed phase images. However, radiologists face significant diagnostic challenges because some HCCs exhibit atypical imaging characteristics. In addition to many HCC-mimicking lesions, such as arterioportal shunts, combined HCC-cholangiocarcinoma, intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma, and hemangioma present a challenge for radiologists in actual clinical practice. The ability to distinguish HCCs from mimickers on initial imaging examinations is crucial for appropriate management and treatment decisions. Therefore, this pictorial review presents the imaging findings of atypical HCCs and HCCs mimicking malignant and benign lesions and discusses important clues that may help narrow down the differential diagnosis.

Clinical Course of Small Subepithelial Tumors of the Small Bowel Detected on CT (전산화단층촬영에서 확인된 소장의 작은 상피하종양의 임상 경과 연구)

  • Purpose This study aimed to evaluate the natural growth of subepithelial tumors of the small bowel detected on CT. Materials and Methods Consecutive patients who were suspected of having subepithelial tumors of the small bowel between January 2005 and December 2020 were reviewed. Eligible patients with suspected small (< 30 mm) subepithelial tumors on at least two CT evaluations were included in the analysis. The patients' data on demographic characteristics, tumoral characteristics, and tumoral size changes during the follow-up were collected. Results This study included 64 patients with suspected small subepithelial tumors (n = 64) of the small bowel. After a median follow-up of 15.8 months, the diameter and volume growth rates were 0.02 mm/month and 1.5 mm3/month, respectively. A significant correlation was observed between the initial size and the growth rate of the small bowel subepithelial tumors. The group of large-sized tumors (initial diameter ≥ 10 mm) tended to show lobulated contours, heterogeneous enhancement, and necrotic changes more frequently than the group of small-sized tumors (initial diameter < 10 mm). Conclusion Small bowel subepithelial tumors measuring less than 10 mm grew more slowly than those measuring 10-30 mm.

  • In this paper, a method for classifying fingerprint ridge lines using runlength codes is proposed. To detect feature points(minutiae) in automatic fingerprint identification system(AFIS), classification of fingerprint ridge lines are essential process. The fingerprint ridge lines are classified by run-length coding, and also the end and bifurcation regions in ridge lines are separated. To evaluate the performance of the proposed method, detected feature regions including minutiae points and classified fingerprint ridge lines are shown.

  • Malignant lymphoma typically presents with homogeneous enhancement of enlarged lymph nodes without internal necrotic or cystic changes on multiphasic CT, which can be suspected without invasive diagnostic methods. However, some subtypes of malignant lymphoma show atypical imaging features, which makes diagnosis challenging for radiologists. Moreover, there are several lymphoma-mimicking diseases in current clinical practice, including leukemia, viral infections in immunocompromised patients, and primary or metastatic cancer. The ability of diagnostic processes to distinguish malignant lymphoma from mimicking diseases is necessary to establish effective management strategies for initial radiological examinations. Therefore, this study aimed to discuss the typical and atypical imaging features of malignant lymphoma as well as mimicking diseases and discuss important diagnostic clues that can help narrow down the differential diagnosis.

  • Kaposi's sarcoma (KS) is a multicentric human immunodeficiency virus-associated neoplasm characterized by multiple vascular nodules in the skin, mucous membranes, and viscera. Gastrointestinal acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS)-related KS is the most common visceral involvement reported in disseminated disease. Here, we present the findings of a rare case of KS involving multiple organs with abdominal pain and active bleeding in the colon. Multiple intraluminal lesions were found in the terminal ileum, sigmoid colon, and rectum by ileocolonoscopy, and in the jejunum and ileum by fluoroscopy. Abdominopelvic CT revealed multiple enhanced flat lesions in the ileum and enlarged lymph nodes. The diagnosis was confirmed by histopathology, and antiretroviral therapy was initiated as the treatment of choice for KS. Owing to the increasing number of AIDS patients, it is essential for radiologists and clinicians to be aware of the imaging characteristics of KS to protect physicians from indiscriminate exposure to AIDS.

Diagnosis of Location and Size of Lesions using Chest X-ray Image (X-선 영상을 이용한 암의 위치 및 크기 진단)

  • X-ray general radiography is the simplest and most important one to get a lot of information. Nevertheless, current x-ray general radiography does not observation in-depth observation. Information about the anatomy of the human body and changes in disease in x-ray general radiography can be obtained but it is difficult to determine the size and shape of the actual lesion due to the disadvantage of expanding the image. In this study, PA and LAT images were acquired and cancer magnification was calculated in the images by measuring the distance of cancer samples. By adjusting the magnification the actual cancer length and thickness were measured and compared with the CT image and the actual cancer sample size. After the PA and LAT images of the inserted 6.0 mm cancer sample were obtained and the magnification was corrected, the length was 5.9 mm and the thickness was 6.1 mm. This value was measured similarly to the actual. The problem of obtaining the magnification that needs to know the actual length from the detector to the cancer sample was secured by obtaining the magnification through PA and LAT images and it is possible to accurately measure the cancer sample size. X-ray general radiography may provide useful information in situations where CT imaging is difficult.

Adaptive Segment-length Thresholding for Map Contour Extraction (등고선 추출을 위한 적응적 길이 임계화)

  • This paper describes, in order to extract contour from topographic map image, an adaptive segment-length thresholding using a threshold depended on target image. First of all, after recognizing the primary symbols and detecting two edges from the projection histogram of the elevation value area, the threshold value is determined by the distance between the edges. Then, the subdivision is peformed by searching a branch point and erasing its neighboring Hack pixels. And contour components are extracted by segment-length thresholding. The experimental result shows that the final image contains non-contour component of 2.41% and contour one of 97.59%.

  • 부분 영상 검색은 질의 영상을 입력으로 사용해서 질의 영상을 부분 영상으로 포함하는 대상 영상을 찾아낸다. 본 논문에서는 부분 영상 검색에 생물정보학에서 사용하는 정렬(Alignment)을 이용한다. 생물정보학에서는 두 DNA 서열 간에 유사도를 비교하고 시각화하는 방법으로 점 행렬을 널리 사용한다. 두 영상을 정렬하기 위해서 먼저 질의 영상과 대상 영상을 일차원 명암도 영상 서열로 변환하고 정렬하여 부분 영상 후보 영역을 찾는다. 이전 연구[1]에서 정렬하는 방법은 두 서열의 길이의 곱만큼의 메모리 공간이 필요하므로 두 서열의 길이가 길어지면 필요한 메모리 공간이 선형적으로 증가했다. 본 논문에서는 영상 데이터의 특성을 이용해서 부분 서열 정렬로 필요한 메모리 공간을 줄였고 부가적인 효과로 처리시간이 감소하고 정확도가 상향되었다.
