  • Soil blocks were taken into culture boxes from 12 paddy fields within 5 km radii of Yonggwang and Ulchin NPPs and $^{90}Sr$ was applied to the surface water at a pre-transplanting stage and $1{\sim}2$ days before the start of heading. Following the pre-transplanting application, transfer factors were investigated for $2{\sim}4$ years. In the year of application, transfer factors $(m^2\;kg^{-1}-dry)\;of\;^{90}Sr$ applied before transplanting, showing no regionally distinguishable trend, varied with soils by a factor of about 2 with averages of $2.6{\times}10^{-4}$ for hulled seeds and $1.3{\times}10^{-2}$ for straw Transfer factors of $^{90}Sr$ applied shortly before heading were about 2 times greater than those applied before transplanting. Transfer factors tended to decrease with increasing soil pH and exchangeable Ca. Generic values of $^{90}Sr$ transfer factors in the year of deposition were proposed for the Korean paddy fields. In the second year compared with the first year, the transfer factor decreased more in Ulchin soils, which were on the whole higher in sand content, than in Yonggwang soils. For Yonggwang soils as a whole, the annual decrease in transfer factor was well described by an exponential equation with a half-life of about 2.2 years.

  • The distribution of radionuclides in soil and plants were calculated, assuming an accidental release of radionuclides from Yeonggwang Nuclear Power Plant. The results which show the concentration change with time and regions were displayed by GIS. GIS Included the commercial program, ArcView(ESRI), and a basic digital map of 1:5000 scale for 30km by 30km area around Yeonggwang Nuclear Power Plant. The target material was $^{137}Cs$ in soil around Yeonggwang area. Given denosited $^{137}Cs$ concentrations, ECOREA-II code computed the $^{137}Cs$ concentration of the soil and the plant in the area divided by 16 azimuth, 480 unit cells in total in which the concentrations also varied with time. The results were introduced into the attributed data of previously designed polygon cells in ArcView. In order to display the concentration change with time by monotonic color, the RGB value for ArcView color lamp was controlled. This display is useful for the public to understand the concentration change of radionuclide around Yeonggwang area definitely.

  • This paper describes a dune field on shoreline of Young Gwang. To clarify geomorphic characteristics, made an analysis of grain size of the sand sediments samples and surface texture of quartz grains, and field survey. The following results were obtained : 1) Young Gwang sand dune is taking to pieces by human impact, and dose not move ahead the process of sand dune. 2) there was a turbulence of sand sediments outcrops saying to the cryoturbation that represents cold climatic environments, 3) Constituents of sand dune are mainly fine and very fine sand(2.5~4.5Φ) consisted by quartz and feldspar. Young Gwang sand grians have some analogy with different sites in west coast 4) In surface texture, roundness is thought to have been formed sub-angular, and some V cracks represented mechanical weathering environments. Especially, the dune environment has significant cultural and archaeological values arising from the occupation of human in the past. Those areas where occupation is known provide a valuable source of past records relating to human settlement.

  • We collected glasswort (Salicornia herbacea L.) from the Jollanam-do area (Hwangsan-myeon in Haenam, Jeungdo-myeon in Sinan, and Yeomsan-myeon in Yeonggwang) from June to October 2007, and analyzed levels of total amino acids, free amino acids, and total polyphenolic compounds and electron donating ability and SOD-like activity. The total amino acid content was $3,338.75{\sim}4,491.63\;mg$/100 g in the sample from Haenam, $3,086.48{\sim}3,782.89\;mg$/100 g in the sample from Sinan, and $3,134.3{\sim}4,364.17\;mg$/100 g in the sample from Yeonggwang. Proline was the main free amino acid from June through to September, and the level increased during June, the early period of maturation, and then decreased with further ripening. The total content of free amino acids was $472.75{\sim}1,080.98\;mg$/100 g in the sample from Haenam, $440.46{\sim}621.77\;mg$/100 g in the sample from Sinan, and $387.64{\sim}669.28\;mg$/100 g in the sample from Yeonggwan. Total polyphenolic compound level was $11.1{\sim}15.61\;mg/g$ in the sample from Haenam, $12.71{\sim}21.03\;mg/g$ in the sample from Sinan, and $13.13{\sim}22.28\;mg/g$ in the sample from Yeonggwang. Electron donating ability was 53.8.70.9% in the sample from Haenam, $62.7{\sim}88.8%$ in the sample from Sinan, and $63.0{\sim}72.7%$ in the sample from Yeonggwang. SOD-like activity was $28.7{\sim}41.0%$ in the sample from Haenam, 28.5{\sim}36.5% in the sample from Sinan, and 23.5.39.6% in the sample from Yeonggwang.
