  • Recently, Deterioration of the concrete sewer concrete structures by biochemical corrosion has been issued and a development of the inhibition system of corrosion that has been demanded. The sulfuric acid may react with the hardened cement paste and originate expansive products which can induce swelling and breakless of concrete. Also, a sulphuric acid reacts with calcium hydroxide to from $CaSO_4\;\cdot\;2H_2O$. This reaction accounts for consumption of the calcium hydroxide present in hardened cement paste. In this study, To present from biochemical corrosion of the sewer repair mortar that was spread with liquefied antibiotic and then its experimental properties were experimentally investigated and to estimate the effect of absorbed condition of restorative mortar, the number of coating times and coating contents with antibiotic on the durability properties of restorative mortar spread with antibiotics. Also, testing items such as carbonation depth, choloride ion penetration depth and chemical resistance was tested to estimate the durability properties in third study. In results, the novellus bacillus inhabiting in sewer concrete structures was restrained by antibiotics developed in this study. And carbonation depth, choloride ion penetration depth and chemical resistance of restorative mortar spread with antibiotics was superior to that of plain mortar.

  • This paper evaluates the mechanical properties and durability of cement matrix blended with mineral admixtures and ferronickel slag(FNS) powder which is an industrial b y-product during ferronickel smelting process. The hydration heat, pore structure, compressive strength, length change, rapid chloride penetration test(RCPT), and freezing and thawing resistance of ternary blended cement matrix were investigated and compared with ordinary portland cement matrix. The result showed that the compressive strength of ternary blended cement matrix using ferronickel slag powder and mineral mixture was low in strength compared to the reference concrete, but recovered to a certain extent by using alkali activator. Length change of cement mortar using FNS powder have shown less shrinkage occurs than the reference specimen. In addition, irrespective of using the alkali-activators, all ternary mix are indicative of the 'very low' range for chloride ion penetrability according to the ASTM C 1202, and the freeze-thaw resistance also showed excellent results.

  • Various types of coatings have been developed for use as reinforcement in concrete and to resist chloride environment. The most commonly used coatings are inhibited and sealed cement slurry coating, cement polymer compositing coating and epoxy coating. Cement slurry offers passive protection, epoxy coating offers barrier protection whereas polymer coating offers both passive protection and barrier protection. Moreover, damage during handling of the steel may result in disbondment of the epoxy coating, which would increase the risk of localized corrosion. In the present study, inhibiting technique was used to increase the calcium hydroxide content at the interface up to 20%. Calcium hydroxide provides a high buffering capacity that resists a local fall in pH and thus maintains the alkaline environment necessary to prevent chloride corrosion. This study examines the use of a calcium hydroxide coating on the steel surface to enhance the pH buffering capacity of steel-concrete interface. Finally, the chloride threshold level (CTL) of polymer inhibitive coating calcium hydroxide is evaluated.
