Turbulent flows and related heat transfer in a square heated duct is investigated by a turbulence model and a large eddy simulation. The cooling channel of calorimeter is modeled to the square duct. The nonlinear k-ε-fμ model of Park et al. [3] is slightly modified and their explicit heat flux model is employed. The Reynolds number is varied in the range 4000≤Reb≤20000. The heat transfer is closely linked to the secondary flows which driven by the turbulent motion. Its magnitude is 1~3% of the mean streamwise velocity. The relation of Nu~Re0.8Pr0.34 is validated by comparing with the predicted Nu of k-ε-fμ model. Finally, the coherent structures and thermal fluctuations are scrutinized.
We investigated one-dimensional thermal conduction for gypsum objects incorporating oyster shell powder. We presumed that according to the portion of oyster shell in the hybrid structure conductive characteristics of that would also change as some physicochemical properties such as volatile organic compound (VOC) adsorption were found to be changed considerably. Based on Fourier's 2nd law of heat conduction an analytical analysis in a flat slab (one axis perpendicular to an infinite plane) was performed. We found that composition of oyster shell and conduction-related coefficients and parameters could greatly influence on the thermal profile of that conduction, and some model experiments also served for it in the affirmative.
The characteristics of evaporation heat transfer for the utilization of LNG cold energy was investigated experimentally using liquified nitrogen and a solution of ethylene-glycol and water under horizontal two-phase conditions in the small-scale equipment of a cryogenic heat exchange system. The inner tubes in the double pipe heat exchanger with 8 mm and 15 mm inner diameter and 6 m length were adopted as a smooth test tubes and enhanced tubes by means of wire-coil inserts. Heat transfer coefficients and Nusselt number for the test tube were calculated from measurements of temperatures, flowrates and pressures. The correlations in a power-law relationship of the Nusselt number, the Reynolds number and Prandtl number for heat transfer were proposed which can be available for design of cryogenic heat exchangers. The correlations showed heat transfer coefficients for the wire-coil inserts were much higher than those for the smooth tubes, increased by more than 2.5 ${\~}$ 5.5 times depending upon the equivalent Reynolds number. Form and length of cryogenic double pipe heat exchanger were proposed for applicable to the utilization of LNG cold energy.

A nonlinear low-Reynolds-number heat transfer model is developed to predict turbulent flow and heat transfer in separated and reattaching flows. The $k-{\varepsilon}-f_{\mu}$ model of Park and Sung (1997) is extended to a nonlinear formulation, based on the nonlinear model of Gatski and Speziale (1993). The limiting near-wall behavior is resolved by solving the $f_{\mu}$ elliptic relaxation equation. An improved explicit algebraic heat transfer model is proposed, which is achieved by applying a matrix inversion. The scalar heat fluxes are not aligned with the mean temperature gradients in separated and reattaching flows; a full diffusivity tensor model is required. The near-wall asymptotic behavior is incorporated into the $f_{\lambda}$ function in conjunction with the $f_{\mu}$ elliptic relaxation equation. Predictions of the present model are cross-checked with existing measurements and DNS data. The model preformance is shown to be satisfactory.
The LWR fuel performance analysis computer code, FRAPCON-1, are evaluated to investigate the performance of CANDU fuel elements loaded in Wolsung-1 reactor. The FRAPCON-1 models of neutron flux depression in fuel and of fuel-to-cladding heat transfer are modified, and the validity of fission gas release model for CANDU fuel is evaluated. And the heavy water properties are provided in calculating the heat transfer coefficient between cladding and coolant. By using the modified code, FRAPCON-1-CSK, the sensitivity studies are carried out for Wolsung-1 fuel element design parameters. The performance analysis is also performed for Wolsung-l fuel elements. The calculated results are discussed in terms of. LWR fuel design criteria because of unavailability of CANDU fuel design criteria.
A finned tube type heat transfer module has been proposed for a multi-burner water tube boiler. Fins change their geometry along the streamwise direction to maximize the performance, which makes it difficult to apply conventional bulk analysis. The design program has been improved by updating data for every row of tubes along the flow. A numerical simulation has been also performed to evaluate the effect of inlet conditions and validated with experiment. The heat transfer of the first row has been underpredicted by the conventional Zhukauskas correlation, where the acceleration of the flow due to the blockage is not fully inflected. The fin tip temperature is also underpredicted by Bessel solution, because of the interaction with neighboring fins.
Estimates of the rate of heat removal from the containment atmosphere following a loss of colant accident (LOCA) are important to the prediction of containment peak pressure and temperature which are essential parameters in designing the containment building. An overall survey and discussion of mechanisms, experimental results, empirical correlations and analytical models that are relevant to the heat transfer inside the containment have been made. As a result of this review, the current state of the knowledge about tile containment heat transfer can be understood and it is known that more investigations are needed to avoid the misuse of various correlations.

Asphalt pavement accounts for more than 90% of the total pavement in Korea. Pavement is most widely constructed among construction structures. The heat transfer characteristics (Thermophysical Properties) of the asphalt pavement cause the heat island effect in downtown areas. An increasing asphalt surface temperature is one of the major causes of damage to asphalt pavement. This study examined the heat transfer characteristic factors according to solar energy accumulation in an asphalt mixture. The specimens (WC-2 & PA-13, Recycled aggregate used WC-2) used in the experiment were compacted with a Gyratory Compactor. The thermo-physical properties (thermal conductivity, specific heat capacity, thermal diffusivity, and thermal emissivity) and solar energy accumulation were evaluated. The thermal accumulation and HFM tests revealed a 1.2- to 2.0-fold difference. This indicates that the thermal conductivity of the asphalt mixture pavement changes with the accumulation of solar energy. An analysis of the correlation of thermal conductivity according to the surface temperature of the asphalt mixture showed that WC-2 was logarithmic, and PA-13 was linear. Experiments on the heat transfer characteristics of asphalt pavement that can be used for thermal failure modeling of asphalt were conducted.
