  • Effects of the ease of pattern on the thermal conditions of clothing were investigated through the measurement of clothing surface temperatures using infrared thermography. Four vests with different pattern ease were worn by five male subjects. Surface temperature distribution on the clothing were then examined using a thermogram to view thermo-regulating characteristics affected by the ease of pattern. Representative surface temperatures were calculated based on the percentage of the surface area within a certain temperature range and the midpoint value of the corresponding area. Representative surface temperatures matches well to the thermal insulation value measured by thermal manikin. Results indicated that representative surface temperature could be a useful quantitative value if some simple calculations were to be used alongside accurate image processing.

  • Body movement is one of the important factors in sleep analysis. In this study, a thermopile detector with four channels was implemented as a non-contacting detector of body movement in sleep. Using a thermopile mathematical model and several frames of thermal images, the possibility of detecting body movement was evaluated. Instant body movement signals were evaluated for the upper, lower, and entire body using the Haar wavelet. This decomposition shows the points in time when the upper-body or lower-body movement occurred and the level of body movement. Additionally, partial body movement was decomposed in head-only, whole body, and leg-only movement using the ANFIS algorithm. Finally, three subject's data were evaluated for 60 minutes, and the detection rates of instant and partial body movement, on average, were 96.3% and 89.2%, respectively.

  • It needs to Prevent damage as aging shotcrete itself exists as a dangerous component to comuting vehicles or infrastructure due to scaling, spaling, and loosening. However, it is hard to make an approach owing to a steep slope and high work, and there has been indicated a limit that it is difficult to grasp the internal condition of shotcrete on the surface. This study aimed to research internal defects that cannot be observed from the surface, by measuring a subtle thermal transfer on the shotcrete surface by using infrared thermography for overcoming such a technical limit. As a result of conducting an inspection through an analysis on measured data and fieldwork using an endoscope camera, it was impossible to accurately determine the wet part because of an excessive coating of shotcrete, yet, This study is proposed effictively extract a void part of the inside with non-destructive and non-touching method.

  • STEP Cube Lab-II (Cube Laboratory for Space Technology Experimental Project-II) is a 6U Cube satellite equipped with optical and infrared cameras for monitoring Mt. Paektu volcanic eruption signs and earth observation in the Korean peninsula. To guarantee successful mission operation of the cube satellite in orbit, thermal design is essential for the electronic equipment, and must be kept within the allowable temperature range during the mission period. Thus, it is necessary to analyze the predictable orbital thermal environment. The STEP Cube Lab-II is launched through the KSLV-II, however, the operation orbit has not been determined due to the unknown launch time. In this study, we performed a thermal analysis of the satellite and investigated the heat flux according to launch time to analyze the worst orbital conditions that could occur.

  • Wearing face masks is an effective measure to prevent COVID-19 infection. Infrared thermal image based temperature measurement and identity recognition system has been widely used in many large enterprises and universities in China, so it is totally necessary to research the face mask detection of thermal infrared imaging. Recently introduced MTCNN (Multi-task Cascaded Convolutional Networks)presents a conceptually simple, flexible, general framework for instance segmentation of objects. In this paper, we propose an algorithm for efficiently searching objects of images, while creating a segmentation of heat generation part for an instance which is a heating element in a heat sensed image acquired from a thermal infrared camera. This method called a mask MTCNN is an algorithm that extends MTCNN by adding a branch for predicting an object mask in parallel with an existing branch for recognition of a bounding box. It is easy to generalize the R-CNN to other tasks. In this paper, we proposed an infrared image detection algorithm based on R-CNN and detect heating elements which can not be distinguished by RGB images.

  • KASINICS (Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute Near Infrared Camera System) is equipped with a InSb array which can observe $1-5\;{\mu}m$ bands in near-infrared. The absorption and emission by telluric water vapor becomes serious in the bands longer than $3\;{\mu}m$. We measured PWV (precipitable Water Vapor) levels above Bohyusan Optical Astronomy Observatory and Sobaeksan Optical Astronomy Observatory from July 2006 to August 2007 using the GPS PWV measurement system of KASI. We found that monthly averaged PWVs are lower than the prediction using dew-point temperature and as low as above Kitt Peak from September to February.

  • Land Surface Temperature (LST) is one of the useful parameters to diagnose the growth and development of crop and to detect crop stress. Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV)-based LST (LSTUAV) can be estimated in the regional spatial scale due to miniaturization of thermal infrared camera and development of UAV. Given that meteorological variable, type of instrument, and surface condition can affect the LSTUAV, the evaluation for accuracy of LSTUAV is required. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the accuracy of LSTUAV using LST measured at ground (LSTGround) under various meteorological conditions and growth phases of garlic crop. To evaluate the accuracy of LSTUAV, Relative humidity (RH), absolute humidity (AH), gust, and vegetation index were considered. Root mean square error (RMSE) after minimizing the bias between LSTUAV and LSTGround was 2.565℃ under above 60% of RH, and it was higher than that of 1.82℃ under the below 60% of RH. Therefore, LSTUAV measurement should be conducted under the below 60% of RH. The error depending on the gust and surface conditions was not statistically significant (p-value < 0.05). LSTUAV had reliable accuracy under the wind speed conditions that allow flight and reflected the crop condition. These results help to comprehend the accuracy of LSTUAV and to utilize it in the agriculture field.
