Periodic Mixed Waveform Measurement Techniques for Compact Radar Transmitter with Phase-Continuous Signal (소형 레이더 송신기의 연속 위상을 갖는 주기성 혼합 파형 측정 기법)

  • In this paper, we propose the measurement techniques of mixed waveform. Mixed waveform has phase-continuous periodic waveform with fixed frequency signal and Linear Frequency Modulation(LFM) signal. This waveform is generated from a compact radar transmitter with frequency synthesizer and high power amplifier. Frequency synthesizer generates various signal waveform with continuos phase and high power amplifier amplify transmitting signal. First, we describe a compact radar transmitter with the phase-continuos signal and then verify the distortion characteristic of pulse compression by the mismatch of LFM waveform. Second, we describe three kinds of measurement techniques for measuring LFM waveform. These techniques include methods using signal analyzer, signal source analyzer and new methods using RF mixer and phase shifter. Finally, we verify the accuracy of the measurement technique from the pulse compression result of receiving signal.

One dimensional inhomogeneous phase modulation effects on the MTF of an optical system (일차원적 비균일 위상변조가 광학계의 MTF에 미치는 영향)

  • One dimensional inhomogeneous phase modulation effects on the MTF of optical system was investigated. The lens under test was a doublet made in Korea. It was 36 mm effective diameter, 128.04 mm effective focal length. The ray-fans and spot diagrams were calculated and presented on the picture for on-axis and off-axis (field of view, $1^{\circ}$ and $2^{\circ}$). Phase modulation was carried out by positioning a phase modulator close contacted with the lens under test. One was linear type that had linearly increasing phase retardation and the other was stepped type which had phase difference $\pi$ for each step. The MTFs were measured on the Gaussian image plane and were compared with one another. The MTFs of linear type phase modulated apertures had a little lower values than the MTF of unmodulated aperture for on-axis but most of all the MTFs of one dimensional phase modulated aperture are improved than the MTF of unmodulated aperture.

  • 본 논문은 차등 위상 편이 변조(DPSK) 시스템에서 파일럿 없이 주파수 추정하는 기법을 제안한다. 제안하는 주파수 동기오차 추정 방식은 파일럿을 사용하지 않고 DPSK 변조 방식에서 연속되는 신호의 차등 위상신호를 전송하는 특성을 사용하는 블라인드 기법이다. DPSK 신호의 위상 차분은 주파수 오차 추정을 실행 할 때 페이즈를 증가시켜 왜곡으로 작용하게 되는데, 본 논문에서는 간단한 상관기와 제곱기로 이러한 특성을 제거하여 주파수 추정 성능을 증가 시킨다. 알고리즘의 검증은 수식과 컴퓨터 시뮬레이션으로 수행한다.

  • We design and analyze the bit interleaved coded modulation(BICM) for noncoherent N-symbol continuous phase frequency shift keying(CPFSK) on the interleaved Rayleigh fading channel. In this paper, we use the equivalent normalized squared distance(ENSD) of noncoherent N-symbol CPFSK to design and analyze the BICM system. Specially, we design the BICM system for noncoherent 2-symbol 4-ary CPFSK, and analyze the performance of the system by using the ENSD. Simulation results are also provided to verify the theoretical performance analysis.

Image Rejection Method with Circular Trajectory Characteristic of Single-Frequency Continuous-Wave Signal (단일 주파수 연속파 신호의 원형 궤도 특성을 이용한 영상 제거 방법)

  • This paper presents a new image rejection algorithm based on the analysis of the distortion of a single-frequency continuous-wave (CW) signal due to the I/Q mismatch. Existing methods estimated the gain mismatch and phase mismatch on RF receivers and compensated them However, this paper shows that the circular trajectory of a single-frequency CW signal is distorted elliptic-type trajectory due to the I/Q mismatch. Utilizing the analysis, we propose a I/Q mismatch compensation method. It has two processing steps. In the first processing step, the generated signal is rotated to align the major axis of the elliptic-type trajectory diagram with the x-axis. In the second processing step, the Q-channel signal in the regenerated signal is scaled to align the regenerated signal with the transmitted single-frequency CW signal. Simulation results show that a receiver using the proposed image rejection algorithm can achieve an image rejection ratio of more than 70dB. And, simulation results show that the bit error rate performances of receivers using the proposed image rejection algorithm are almost the same as those of conventional coherent demodulators, even in fading channels.

  • An integrated photonic radio frequency (RF) phase shifter has been proposed and fabricated using a nested dual Mach-Zehnder modulator configuration in a new electro-optic polymer. The fabricated device shows a continuous voltage control of the RF signal phase. A near-linear phase shift exceeding 108$^{\circ}$was obtained for a 16-GHz microwave signal by tuning the do control voltage over a 7.8- $V_{pp}$ range.e.

Double Duobinary MSK Modeling of the SOQPSK-TG Signal (SOQPSK-TG 신호의 이중 듀오바이너리 MSK 모델링)

  • The SOQPSK-TG is a modulated signal for aeronautical telemetry with a very good bandwidth efficiency. In this paper, the frequency waveform filter of the SOQPSK-TG is linearly approximated and modeled with a duobinary precoder and a modified frequency waveform filter having a phase transition period of about 1Tb. In combination with the existing precoder, the SOQPSK-TG is modeled by a double duobinary MSK. Comparing the SOQPSK-TG signal and the newly modeled double duobinary MSK signal in time domain and frequency domain, it is confirmed that the two signals are almost identical and there is virtually no performance difference. Moreover, we can attain 0.1 dB BER performance improvement compared to the existing cosine filter when the filter of the IQ-detector is implemented with a cosine sum filter taking into account the change in the modulation index by the new double doubinary precoder.

  • This paper presents a novel unified DC offset cancellation and I/Q regeneration for five-port junction based direct receivers. It utilizes the symmetry characteristics of the single-frequency continuous-wave (CW) signal, making it possible that the proposed method can be used regardless of carrier phase offset. The proposed method eliminates the additional DC offset cancellation and reduces the I/Q regeneration parameter estimation time. Since the proposed method employs a single-frequency CW signal independent of the modulation scheme, five-port junction based direct receivers can be used for the demodulation of orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing and continuous phase modulation as well as phase shift-keying.

  • The automatic modulation recognition of a radio signal is a major task of an intelligent receiver, with various civilian and military applications. In this paper, we propose a method to recognize the modulation of radio signals in wireless communication based on the deep neural network. We classify the modulation pattern of radio signal by using the LSTM model, which can catch the long-term pattern for the sequential data as the input data of the deep neural network. The amplitude and phase of the modulated signal, the in-phase carrier, and the quadrature-phase carrier are used as input data in the LSTM model. In order to verify the performance of the proposed learning method, we use a large dataset for training and test, including the ten types of modulation signal under various signal-to-noise ratios.

  • SOQPSK-TG which consists of differential precoder and CPM modulator was adopted as telemetry standard because of its high power and bandwidth efficiency. We proposed four-state Viterbi decoder for SOQPSK-TG. Reducing the trellis state to four was possible by simplifying frequency pulse of SOQPSK-TG to square pulse of symbol length 2 and combing this with differential precoder. Compared with conventional SOQPSK-TG receivers, computer simulation result shows about 1 dB performance improvement was achieved at BER of $10^{-5}$ in AWGN channel.
