Combustion Characteristics of Landfill Gas in Constant Volume Combustion Chamber for Large Displacement Volume Engine (II) - Combustion Analysis - (대형기관 모사 정적연소실에서 매립지 가스의 연소특성에 대한 연구 (II) - 연소 분석 -)

  • This is the second paper on the combustion characteristics of landfill gas in a constant volume combustion chamber for a large displacement volume commercial engine, and it discusses the combustion process on the basis of pressure measurements. The results show that the bimodal peak pressure phenomenon, which is caused by the interaction of the heat release and the heat transfer, is more apparent as the mixtures are more favorable to combustion, and the magnitudes of the pressures depend on the unburned fraction. In addition, there exist four main inflection points during heat release owing to variations in the heat transfer area related to flame propagation from the ignition point. Furthermore, the number of inflection points increases as the mixture quality worsens because of the extended burn duration. Consequently, the sophisticated interactions between the heat transfer area changing pattern due to flame propagation and transfer duration might cause very peculiar heat release patterns.

  • A cooling performance analysis has been made in the 8-channel calorimeter based on sub-scale KSR-III engine. Three-dimensional heat transfer analysis in cooling channels has been performed using the heat flux distribution through the chamber wall predicted from axi-symmetric compressible flow inside the combustion chamber. The heat flux distribution was verified against the published literature. Presented for the development and operation of the calorimeter are the coolant pressure drop, coolant temperature rise and the maximum chamber wall temperature.

An Evaluation of Structural Characteristics and Integrity for Rocket Motor Case according to Dome Types (돔 형상에 따른 연소관의 구조 특성 및 안전성 평가)

  • Elastic-Plastic structural analysis was performed to evaluate structural characteristic and integrity for rocket motor case of solid propulsion system. The structural analyses were compared and evaluated using the simplified 2-D axisymmetric model and 3-D full model for rocket motor case with torispherical dome type. And pre-tension load for bolt model was considered in structural analysis. The results of displacement and stress for the simplified 2-D axisymmetric model and 3-D full model were in an good agreement with each other. Therefore, the simplified 2-D axisymmetric model for rocket motor case was recommended to verify quickly the structural integrity and save the modeling and calculating time in initial design stage. Also, the structural characteristic and integrity for rocket motor case according to 5 dome types was evaluated to select the optimal dome shape.

  • 도시폐기물의 효율적인 소각 처리를 위해서 폐기물 처리량 50 ton/day의 화격자 소각로를 대상으로 화학반응을 고려하여 연소실 내부의 열유동 현상을 전산모사하였다. 수치해석 프로그램으로 상용코드인 PHOENICS를 사용하여 3차원 모사를 하여 실험으로 파악할 수 없는 연소실 내부의 유동 및 폐기물과 산화제와의 반응을 계산하였다. 건조부, 주연소부, 후연소부에 1차연소용공기, 연료의 분포 및 폐기물의 발열량이 노내 열유동 현상에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. 1차연소용 공기의 분포에 따라 노내 유동장의 형태에 변화가 있었으며, 벽면에서의 복사열전달을 고려한 경우 2차연소실과 출구근처에서 온도분포가 파일롯트 플랜트 실험결과와 잘 일치하는 r서으로 나타났다.

  • 전산유체 해법의 내연기관 3차원 해석에 대한 최근 연구 동향에 대해 소개하였다. 난류유동 해석은 아직 정확성과 신뢰도 면에서 많은 연구가 필요하지만 현재의 상태에서도 직관, 경험, 실험 측정에 의해 파악하기 어렵거나 많은 비용과 시간이 요구되는 부분을 보완해 줄 수 있는 도구로서 인정받고 있다. 연소해석 부분은 현상 자체가 유동, 연소, 분무, 열전달등이 복합적으로 작용하는 어려운 문제로서 공학계산의 가장 첨단 분야 중의 하나라 할 수 있다. 현재 관련 모델로서 스파크 점화기관의 점화 및 화염전파, 배기가스 생성 과정과 디젤기관의 압축착화, 예혼합 및 확산 연소, 매연 등의 생성과정에 대한 모델 개발과 검증이 활발히 이루어지고 있다. 일부 발표된 논문 결과들은 이와 같은 방법이 엔진의 주요 연소 특성을 재현하는데에 성공적으로 활용될 수 있음을 보여주고 있다.

Combustion Instability Modeling in a Hydrogen-Natural Gas Mixed Fuel Gas Turbine Combustor using a 3-Dimensional Finite Element Method Approach (3차원 유한요소해석 기법을 사용한 수소-천연가스 혼소 가스터빈 연소기에서의 연소불안정 해석)

  • In this study, the combustion instability characteristics according to the change in the hydrogen ratio in the fuel in the single nozzle system of the hydrogen-natural gas mixed gas turbine for power generation was analyzed using a three-dimensional finite element analysis-based Helmholtz solver. This combustor shows the instability characteristics in which mode transition occurs from a mode having a low amplitude near 70 Hz to a mode having a high amplitude of 250 Hz or higher as the hydrogen fraction in the fuel increases. The current modeling results are found to reasonably predict the main characteristics of the change in measured instability frequency and growth rate with the change in fuel composition.

  • A CFD (Computational fluid Dynamics) research is conducted for the investigation of the fuel alteration of MBTU (medium-Btu) gas in IGCC gas turbine combustor. The computational analysis method of the gas turbine combustor is constructed by incorporating MBTU gas reaction and fuel NOx models into commercial CFD code. With the use of the present analysis method, comparisons are made on the flow velocity, the chemical species and the temperature distributions, and on the flame shape and behavior of gas turbine combustor firing natural gas and MBTU gases (coal gas, heavy residue oil gas). Furthermore, the NOx formation characteristics and the turbine matching condition of the combustor are analyzed. Based on the computed analysis results, the present study provides the directions for the redesign and the design modification of IGCC gas turbine combustor firing MBTU gas as alternative fuel.

Numerical Analysis of Combustion and Heat Transfer of Domestic Gas Boiler Equipped with 2-stage Heat Exchanger (수치해법을 이용한 2단 열교환기 장착 가정용 보일러 연소실의 연소 및 열전달 특성 해석)

  • In this work, a numerical investigation is performed for the combustion chamber of domestic gas boiler with 1-stage and 2-stage heat exchangers. The fluid flow and heat transfer performance is simulated with a structure change of heat exchanger. The numerical solution shows that the heat transfer of the 2-stage heat exchanger is about 24% higher than that of the 1-stage heat exchanger, while the pressure loss of the 2-stage heat exchanger increases. The temperature of combustion chamber with 2-stage heat exchanger is lower than that of 1-stage. This effect reduces thermal NOx with decrease of high temperature staying time of the combustion gas.

  • Three dimensional numerical analysis were performed to investigate the combustion characteristics in a tangentially fired pulverized coal boiler. The predicted values at the outlet of economizer for the gas temperature, O$_2$, NO, CO were been compared with the measured data. By using the actual operating conditions of the power plant, the distribution of velocity, gas temperature, O$_2$, CO, CO$_2$ and NO as well as the particle tracking in the boiler were investigated. Throughout the present study, the non-uniform distribution of flue gas temperature in front of the final superheater might be resulted from the residual swirl flow in the upper furnace of the boiler. The present analysis on non-uniform distribution of the gas temperature could provide the useful information to prevent the frequent tube failure from happening in the final superheater of the tangentially coal-fired boiler.

  • The structural analysis and water pressure test of regenerative liquid rocket thrust chamber cooling channel specimens are performed at room temperature. material properties of copper alloy are obtained by uniaxial tension test at room temperature and used of elastic-plastic structural analysis. The plate type of cooling channel specimen are manufactured and performed water pressure test in order to confirm the analysis results. The differences between results of elastic-plastic analysis and that of water pressure test of cooling channel specimen are small and find that manufacturing process affect the structural stability of cooling channel very much because cooling channel thickness is small
