Combustion Characteristics of Orifice Size of Torch in a CVCC (토치 점화 장치의 오리피스 직경에 따른 연소특성 파악)

  • Seven different size of orifice were applied in a constant volume combustion chamber for evaluating the effects of torch-ignition on combustion. The initial flame development and flame propagation were analyzed by the mass fraction burn and combustion enhancement rate. The combustion pressures were measured to calculate the mass fraction burn and the combustion enhancement rates. In addition, the flame propagations were visualized by the shadowgraph method for the qualitative comparison. The result showed that the combustion pressure and mass burned fraction were increased when using the torch-ignition device. The combustion enhancement rates of torch-ignition cases were improved in comparison with conventional spark ignition. Finally, the visualization results showed that the torch-ignition induced faster burn than conventional spark ignition due to the earlier transition to turbulent flame and larger flame surface, during the initial stage.

  • The characteristics of flame dynamics occurring near the bluff body was experimentally investigated in a model combustor with V-gutter bluff body. Measurements of chemiluminescence with high speed camera and PIV were performed for visualization of flame structure. Flashback occurs due to the change of pressure gradient in the combustor, and the flashback distance depends on equivalent ratio. Unstable flames can be classified into three types depending on the flashback distance and structure. When the flame goes over the bluff body, an unusual flame structure occurs at the front of the bluff body. Re-stabilization takes place as the flame moves downstream of the combustor. This process is supported by a strong vortex structure behind the bluff body.

  • 금속분말을 청정 에너지원으로 이용하기 위해 금속분말 소형 연소기의 구현이 필요하다. 이를 위한 기초 연구로서 점화성이 뛰어나면서도 경제적인 수십 마이크로 크기의 마그네슘(Mg) 분말을 대상으로 고온 증기(steam)와의 연소 현상 대해 연구하였다. 본 연구에서는 연소실 내 체류시간 및 혼합 효율을 증가시키기 위해 와류 유동을 연소기에 적용하였고 아르곤(Ar) 이송가스를 이용해 마그네슘 분말을 공급하였다. 안정한 화염을 유지시키기 위하여 이송가스의 유량을 변화시켜 공급되는 마그네슘의 양을 조절하였고, 고온 증기의 공급량은 니들 밸브의 개도를 조정하거나 우회시킨 관로로 증기의 일부를 배출함으로써 조절하였다. 고온의 점화원을 사용하여 증기 분위기 내 마그네슘 분말을 점화시켜, 대기압 환경에서 마그네슘/증기/아르곤의 지속적인 화염을 구현하였다.

  • 최근 충남대에서는 다양한 추진제와 연소 조건으로 액체로켓 연소 실험이 진행되고 있으며 그에 비례하여 많은 사고들이 발생하고 있다. 한 예로 GO$_2$/kerosene을 추진제로 하는 노즐삭마 시험용 로켓엔진(추력 1001bf, 연소실 압력 600psia) 개발 중에 화염이 인젝터면에 형성되어 인젝터면을 손상시키는 사고를 여러 번 경험하게 되었다. 본 연구는 인젝터 손상의 원인을 규명하여 안정적인 인젝터 설계에 도움을 주기 위한 목적으로 실험용 동축 인젝터를 제작하여 화염 부상 특성을 실험적으로 연구하였다. 사용된 인젝터는 연료인 Kerosene을 접선형 선회기로부터 90$^{\circ}$의 원뿔 각을 가지고 분무되도록 설계하였으며, 그 주위로 산하제인 GO$_2$가 연소실의 축방향에 수평하게 분무되도록 설계하였다. 2-유체 동축 인젝터의 난류 확산 화염에서 연료와 산화제의 혼합은 화염 특성을 결정하는 주요 변수이므로 인젝터로부터 분무되는 추진제간의 유량을 변화시켜 화염 부상 특성을 연구하였다.

Flashover Characteristics of Vertical-type Model Power Line in the Presence of Combustion Flame (연소화염 존재 시 수직형 모델 전력선의 섬락 특성)

  • A forest fire in the area of power line installations may be caused by flashover disturbances in power systems. In this study, experiments were conducted so as to investigate the reduction in dielectric strength caused by combustion flame, and flashover characteristics in the simulated condition of vertical-type model power lines were examined by making shorter and longer the horizontal distance(s) between combustion flame and high-voltage conductors under the application of 60[Hz] a.c. and d.c. high-voltages. As the results of the experimental investigation it is demonstrated that flame can reduce flashover voltages of the model air-gap in shorter range of the horizontal distance(s). Relative air density is considered in order to analyze the reduction causes of the flashover voltages, and it can be seen that the relative air density has a great influence on the flashover characteristics under the presence of combustion flame.

  • This study is intended to understand flame behavior of pool and whirl fire by height of fire source. Liquid fuel was methanol which is used in many studies for pool and whirl fire. Size of vessel was $100{\times}100{\times}50$ and the vessel was made by stainless steel. Combustion time, mass loss rate, flame temperature, flame height and air entrainment rate from the outside to flame were measured, and flame behavior was visualized with video camera. Based on the experiment, it was found that combustion characteristics by height of fire source got a more effect on whirl fire than pool fire.

  • It is very important to improve the combustion efficiency and reduce pollutant emission in order to save energy and environment. Especially, thermal NOx has been reduced through monitoring burner flame, because the thermal NOx is strongly related to flame characteristics. In this work, a flame-monitoring system was fabricated with photodiode, optical fiber, interference filter and data acquisition system, and it was applied to a lab-scale methane combustion system and a testing facility. Flame intensity and mean frequency increased with increasing turbulent intensity and fuel loading. The sensor signal from flame fluctuations differed from that without flame, which showed the availability af the flame scanner to find the presence of flame. NOx emissions increased with flame intensity.

  • This experimental study has been conducted to investigate the effect of the flame holder on the multi-slot film cooling in the ramjet combustor. The turbulent wake which is generated by the flame holder on the entrance of the coolant flow path affects on the slot. Adiabatic film cooling effectiveness on the downstream wall of the slot exit are measured. The results show that the film cooling performance is rapidly decreased after the slot exit by shear layer and high turbulence intensity between separated flows and coolant flows.

  • An investigation into the influence of ultrasonic standing wave on the structural behavior of propane/air premixed flame has been made to get a clue to the combustion reaction acceleration and combustion instability, as well. Visualization technique utilizing the Schlieren method was employed for the observation of structural variation of the premixed flame. The flame shape and propagation velocity were measured according to the variation of equivalence ratio. It was found that the standing wave distorted the flame front and expedited a transition to the flame with turbulent nature.

  • 축대칭 곡면벽 제트 버너를 제작하여 화염의 안정화 특성을 실험적으로 연구하였다. 축대칭 곡면벽 제트 유동은 난류 강도의 증가와 더불어 버너 선단 부근에 재순환 영역을 형성하여 화염의 안정화를 촉진시킴으로서 기존의 튜브 버너에 비하여 화염의 안정화 특성이 향상되었다. 시간적으로 화염의 위치가 변동하는 난류 화염에서 화염의 안정화 특성과 밀접한 관계가 있는 OH 라디칼과 온도를 PLIF와 CARS를 각각 적용하여 측정하였다. 고유속으로 연소시키는 경우에 버너 선단에 형성된 재순환 영역에 OH 라디칼이 상당량 분포하고 있었으며 통계적으로 고온을 유지하였다. 이는 버너 선단에 형성되는 재순환 영역에 고온의 기연 가스가 점화원 역할을 하여 화학 반응이 활발하게 일어나고 있음을 의미한다. 이러한 결과로부터 고속의 출구유속에서 화염 안정화 특성은 재순환 영역에 의하여 영향을 받고 있음을 확인하였다.
