Combustion Performance According to the Cavity Flameholder Location in a Supersonic Combustor (초음속 연소기에서 공동형 보염기 위치에 따른 연소 성능)

  • The effect of the relative distance between two cavity flame holders on the performance of a supersonic combustor was experimentally investigated. A rectangular cross-sectional combustor model with one cavity flame holder on each of two facing walls was used, with two difference distances between cavities of 135 mm and 220 mm. The fuel equivalence ratio was varied as 0.16 and 0.38. A direct-connected type test facility was used to provide Mach 2 flow condition. The test results revealed that the combustion pressure was higher for the shorter cavity distance case. But fuel equivalence ratio did not have large effect on the combustion pressure. It was concluded that, to get higher combustor pressure, there needs to be further combustor configuration change such as smaller cavity distance or tandem cavity installation.

  • Refuse incineration plant operations involve many kinds of uncertain factors, such as the variable physical properties of refuse as fuel and the complexity of the burning phenomenon. This makes it very dificult to apply conventional control methods to the combustion control of the refuse. So most of the refuse incineration plant are operated by operators. In this paper, an multi-variable fuzzy model predictive controller is proposed for the combustion control of the re:fuse. Adaptive network based fuzzy inference system is used for modeling of the refuse incineration plant and multi-variable fuzzy model predictive controller is designed based on the identified fuzzy model. And computer simulation was carried out to evaluate performance of the proposed controller.

Combustion Characteristics of Pool and Whirl Fire on Methanol by Height of Fire Source using the Small Scale (화점높이 변화에 따른 메탄올의 소규모 Pool 및 Whirl Fire의 연소특성)

  • This study is intended to understand flame behavior of pool and whirl fire by height of fire source. Liquid fuel was methanol which is used in many studies for pool and whirl fire. Size of vessel was $100{\times}100{\times}50$ and the vessel was made by stainless steel. Combustion time, mass loss rate, flame temperature, flame height and air entrainment rate from the outside to flame were measured, and flame behavior was visualized with video camera. Based on the experiment, it was found that combustion characteristics by height of fire source got a more effect on whirl fire than pool fire.

  • Scramjet engine is one of the most promising propulsion systems for future transport. For the ground test with T4 shock tunnel, model scramjet engine is designed. Design flight Mach number is 7.6 and flight altitude is 30km. Engine intake is designed by Levenberg-Marquardt optimization method and Korkegi relation. Furthermore, cowl cut out region is installed by the rule of Kantrowitz limit. Inside the combustor, cavity type flame holder is installed. Cavity is designed by Rayleigh line relation and PSR model. Numerical analysis is performed for the design confirm.

  • Heat release characteristics of live fire load are an important parameter for performance oriented fire safety design of a building. While investigations have been carried out on the fire load and its burning behavior in office, residential and commercial buildings and so on, little effort has been paid for the rational treatment of fire load in bookstore. In this report, burning behavior of typical combustible objects in bookstore are studied by measuring heat release rates of bookshelf with book. Based on the results, it has reviewed fire safety when a fire accident occurs on the large bookstore and suggested peak heat release rate per burning surface, fire growth rate, etc of the live fire load required for fire safety design in bookstore.

Combustion time, mass loss rate, flame temperature, flame height and air entrainment rate from the outside to flame were measured, and flame behavior was visualized with video camera. Based on the experiment, it was found that combustion characteristics of pool fire was decreased according to increase of height of fire source because entrainment volume of relative cold air was increased from the outside to flame.

A Study on the Combustion Efficiency Concept in Under-ventilated Compartment Fires (환기부족 구획화재에서 연소효율 개념에 대한 고찰)

  • A study on combustion efficiency concept was conducted for the under-ventilated fires in a fullscale ISO 9705 room. In particular, a comparison between global combustion efficiency (CE) measured outside the compartment and local CE measured at upper layer inside the compartment was focused. Heptane, toluene and iso-propanol were used to consider the wide ranges of heat of combustion and soot yield. As a result, the global CE was decreased linearly with increasing in global equivalence ratio (GER). On the other hand, the decreasing rate of local CE was increased gradually with increasing in GER. From these results, it was known that the information on local CE was very useful parameter to understand the fire phenomena inside the compartment. In addition, it was discussed that the local CE might be used as an important parameter in the process of scaling for the compartment fires.

Impact of Northeast Asian Biomass Burning Activities on Regional Atmospheric Environment (동북아시아 지역의 바이오매스 연소 활동이 지역 대기 환경에 미치는 영향)

  • Biomass burning activities(BBA) are caused by both natural and anthropogenic origins. Due to emissions of greenhouse gases and atmospheric aerosols during the burning process, BBA has been known to be one of important sources of atmospheric pollution and the climate change. However, the monitoring of BBA and its effects on atmospheric environment are not simple. This study evaluates the trends of BBA and its impact on atmospheric environment by using earth observing satellite. The results show that the most BBA were found over ever green, green vegetation types, and irrigated land cover types in study region. The trends of BBA and aerosol optical thickness which represents relative aerosol loading in the atmosphere, show similar pattern. Aerosol increases caused by BBA highlight the effectiveness of these mechanisms and would affect the regional atmospheric environment and climate change.

Combustion Characteristics of Land Fill Gas according to the Diameter of the Flame outlet of the Pre-chamber Spark Plug (예연소실 점화 플러그의 화염 분출구 직경에 따른 매립지가스의 연소 특성)

  • This research work is to suggest the experimental results capable of solving an initial unsuitability of combustion and environment in a constant volume combustion chamber by using LFG(Land Fill Gas) which consists of 40% CO2 and 60% CH4. The experimental condition is set as 0.9~1.6 of air-fuel ratio, 3bar of combustion pressure, 25℃ of room temperature, methane for using gas, and 2.5~4.5 of Pre-chamber hole sizes. As a result, it can be seen that diffusion of initial flame is significantly increased by M3.0 model comparing with other one. The reason for the characteristics is that orifice effect is extremely improved by 0.9, 1.0, and 1.2 of air-fuel ratio comparing with other one. Consequently, this experiment is shown that M3.0 model is partially capable of improving combustion performance than a conventional ignition plug in case of applying to LFG with Pre-chamber design.

  • 디젤 엔진의 분사연료를 연소실 내부에 마련된 작은 돌출부에 충돌시켜 액적을 작게 부수고 연료가 연소실 내부에 고루 분포할 수 있도록 하여 여러 가 지 엔진성능향상을 도모한 새로운 디젤 연소실 시스템이 최근 제시되고 있다. 이들 시스템은 피스톤 내부 혹은 엔진헤드 부위에 분사연료 충돌부를 두고 있는데, 여기에서는 이 새로운 시스템 개발에 있어 고려되어야 할 몇 가지 중요 요인들에 중점을 두어 분석하였다. 결과로서 분사압력, 사노즐크기, 주위공기 온도와 압력의 변화가 분무 평균입경과 분무연료의 분포에 미치는 영향을 제시하였다.
