Development of hydrogen-oxygen mixed gas torch for joining of vacuum glazing (진공유리 접합을 위한 수소-산소 혼합가스 토치 개발)

  • Efficient energy use becomes necessary since energy consumption has dramatically been increasing due to continuous economic development and population growth. In particular, high efficient vacuum glazing needs to be introduced to buildings where enormous energy loss occurs through windows and has been rarely used yet due to its high price and performance. Therefore, in this study, torch for glass welding was developed with CFD(Computational Fluid Dynamics) and experiments. Torch shape, nozzle diameter, nozzle arrangement etc. were mainly optimized and hydrogen-oxygen mixed gas fuels the torch. Finally, glass welding with the developed torch has been successful, showing that it can be used to develop economic vacuum glazing.

  • EGR system has been widely used to reduce NOx emission in light duty diesel engines, but its application to heavy duty diesel engine is not common yet. In this study, simulation model for EURO-3 engine was developed using commercial code WAVE and then verified by comparison with experimental results in performance and emission. Possibility to meet EURO-4 regulation using modified EURO-3 engine with LPL EGR system was studied. Each components of the engine was modeled using CATIA and WaveMesher. The engine test mode was ESC 13 and injection timing and quantity were changed to compensate engine performances, because applying EGR causes power reduction. As a results of the simulation, it was found that EURO-4 NOx regulation could be achieved by applying LPL EGR system to current EURO-3 engine even with some BSFC deterioration.

  • The performance improvement and emission reduction in a turbocharged D.I. diesel engine was studied experimentally in this paper. The system of intake port, fuel injection and turbochager are very important factors which have influence on the engine performance and exhaust emission because the properties in the injected fuel depend on the combustion characteristics. Through these experiments it can be expected to meet performance and emission by optimizing the main parameters; the swirl ratio of intake port, fuel injection system and turbocharger. The swirl ratio of intake port was modified by hand-working and measured by impulse swirl meter. Through this steady flow test, we knew that the increase of swirl ratio is decreasing the mean flow coefficient, whereas the gulf factor is increasing. And the optimum results of engine performance and emission are as follows; the swirl ratio is 2.43, injection timing is BTDC 13。 CA, compression ratio is 16, combustion bowl is re-entrant 5$^{\circ}$, nozzle hole diameter is $\Phi$0.28*6, turbocharger is GT40 model which are compressor A/R 0.58 AND turbine A/R 1.19.

  • Modern vehicles require a high degree of refinement, including good drive ability to meet customer demands. Vehicle drive ability, which becomes a key decisive factor for marketability, is affected by many parameters such as engine control and the dynamic characteristics in drive lines. This paper focuses on the simulation of FTP-75 mode which is considered with spark timing control on transient condition. The acceleration is the most important factor for vehicle fuel economy. The retard of spark timing increases in proportion to acceleration. Likewise, bsfc(break specific fuel consumption) which is affected by spark timing also increases in proportion to acceleration. The result of simulation considered transient condition shows 0.3% of error comparing with a test on chassis-dynamometer.

  • Siloxanes are widely used in industrial processes and consumer products. When landfill gas is used as fuel for gas engines, volatile siloxane in landfill gas causes serious damage to gas engines and pretreatment facilities. In this study, the applicability of various clay minerals was evaluated as the alternative adsorbents of activated carbon. SEM and BET analyses of illite, vermiculite, and activated carbon were performed for comparing those physical properties. Siloxane adsorption capacities of illite and vermiculite were estimated very high to 1.7 g/g illite, 3.8 g/g vermiculite respectively through the adsorption experiments of D5 siloxane.

Effects on Performance Characteristics of Diesel Engine by EGR system with Scrubber (Scrubber를 장착한 EGR 시스템이 디젤기관의 성능특성에 미치는 영향)

  • Th effects of exhaust gas recirculation(EGR) on the characteristics of combustion exhaust emissions and specific fuel consumption(SFC) are experimentally investigated by four-cylin-der four-cycle and direct injection marine diesel engine. In order to reduce soot contents in the recirculated exhaust gas to intake system of the engines a novel diesel soot removal system with a cylinder-type scrubber which has water injector(4 nozzles in 1.0mm diameter)is specially designed and manufactured for the experi-mental system. The obtained results are as follows; The combustion pressure in cylinder is decreased and ignition is delayed with increasing EGR rate. The accumulated quantity of heat release is slightly decreased and the tendency of heat release rate is not constant. NOx and Soot emissions are decreased by maximum 7% and 540% with scrubber tan without scrubber in the range of experimental conditions. Those are increased at the lean burn area with increasing equivalence ration in the constant value of engine speed and EGR rate. Also those are decreased with increasing EGR rate in the constant value of engine speed and equivalence ratio.

  • 저수지와 양수장은 우리나라에서 용수공급면적기준으로 전체 공급량의 78%를 차지하는 중요한 용수 공급시설이다. 본 연구의 목적은 저수지와 양수장의 환경영향을 LCA기법을 이용해 비교 분석함으로써 두 시설들의 환경영향을 정량적으로 평가하는데 있다. 연구대상 수리시설로서 경기도 안성에 위치한 이동저수지와 은산양수장을 선정하여 각각에 대하여 농업수리시설의 전과정평가를 실시하였다. 평가를 위하여 네덜란드 Pre사가 개발한 소프트웨어 Simapro 7.1를 이용하였다. 두 시설에 대한 원료물질 취득 단계부터 건설, 운영, 유지관리 및 폐기단계까지 전과정의 환경영향을 분석한 결과, 두 종류의 시설 설치에 따른 토지이용, 상 하류의 생태적 영향 등이 고려되지 않았지만 저수지에 의한 농업용수 공급이 양수장에 의한 용수 공급보다 환경친화적이라고 볼 수 있다. 저수지의 경우 건설단계의 환경영향이 크고, 양수장의 경우, 운영단계에 환경영향이 큰 것으로 분석되었다. 단계별로 환경영향은 저수지는 건설단계에 건설재료 예를 들어 레미콘, 시멘트 등이 환경부하를 크게 발생시키기 때문이고, 양수장은 이용 단계에서 용수공급을 위한 전력사용에서 기인하는데, 이는 전력생산시 화석연료와 같은 자원소비가 많기 때문이다. 이번 연구는 토목시설물중 농업 용수 공급시설의 전과정에서 환경영향을 종합적으로 평가하는데 LCA가 활용되었다는 점에서 의의가 있으며, 향후 하드웨어적인 시설뿐만 아니라 농업용수 공급에 따른 전과정평가를 수행하고, 농업용수 LCI D/B 구축에 기초자료를 제공할 수 있을 것으로 예상된다.

Evaluation on a Miller Cam for Improving the Fuel Consumption of a Large Diesel Engine (대형 디젤 엔진의 연비 향상을 위한 Miller Cam 평가)

  • Miller timing is one of the promising ways which can improve the fuel consumption of internal combustion engines. Indeed, Miller timing employing an early intake valve close is widely applied to large diesel and gas engines to enhance performance and reduce NOx emissions. In this study, performance evaluation is carried out by 1-D cycle simulation in order to estimate the effect of Miller CAM timing before BDC for a 32 L turbocharged diesel engine. To optimize Miller CAM timing, a single stage turbocharger is matched with an early intake valve close since boost pressure is a significant parameter that can control compression work in a turbocharged engine. The engine simulation result shows that there is enough potential to improve fuel consumption rate and also reduce NOx emissions at the same time.Abstract here.

  • The purpose of this study is know the fuel economy of difference tractive resistance calculation methods on light duty low-floor bus. Two tractive resistance calculation methods(coastdown test and JFCM conversion formula) are tested to understand the difference of fuel economy. JFCM was developed for fuel economy regulations of heavy duty vehicle. That show a big difference as a result of the calculation using coastdown test and JFCM conversion formula. The difference of the tractive resistance affects the fuel economy.

Performance Characteristics of CNG Engine at Various Compression Ratios (압축비 변경에 따른 CNG기관의 특성 연구)

  • Natural gas is one of clean fuels that can replace petroleum-based fuels, because it has low exhaust emission, comparatively high thermal efficiency and abundant deposits. In this addition, owing to high octane number and wide lean flammability limit, it has a strong point to increase the compression ratio. For this reason, the research is being actively executed to increase the generating power and thermal efficiency of the engine by raising the compression ratio through utilization of high octane number relevant to development of CNG engine. In this study, 0.63L single cylinder diesel engine has been used to alter easily compression ratio. Compression ratio has gotten under control by modifying the thickness of gasket between cylinder head and block without major structural modifications. As the result, as compression ratio has increased, generating power and fuel consumption ratio have been improved. As for emission concentration, as compression ratio has increased, THC concentration has been decreased while exhause concentration of NOx increased. In case compression ratio has excessively increased, brake output decrease and cycle variation have been increased. As the result acquired by analyzing brake output, fuel consumption ratio, cycle variation and exhaust, the engine driving condition has acquired $\varepsilon=13$ as the optimal compression ratio in this study.
