Fracture Properties and Microstructural Characteristics of Rock (암석의 파괴역학적 특성과 미세구조에 관한 연구)

  • 금속과 같은 균질한 재료의 균열파괴의 특성을 설명하기 위하여 도입된 파괴역학의 이론들은 1960년대 이후 콘크리트나 암석 등에 대하여 적용되기 시작하였다. 파괴인성계수(fracture toughness)는 균열의 성장에 대한 재료의 저항을 나타낸다. 그러나, 암석의 파괴역학적 특성은 암석이 갖는 불균질성이나 비등방성에 의하여 영향을 받는다. 즉, 암석의 파괴역학적 특성의 측정은 시험편의 크기나 초기균열의 길이, 시험편의 형상 등에 의하여 측정자료의 분산이 심하며 따라서 다른 기본 물성들의 경우에서와 마찬가지로 일정한 시험기준의 도입이 요구되었다. 1988년에 국제암반공학회(ISRM)에서 제시한 표준시험방법은 시험편의 제작이나 시험방법에 있어서 복잡한 과정을 요구하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 표준시험방법에서 사용되는 시험편의 형태에 비하여 비교적 간단한 시험방법들에 의하여 얻어진 파괴적인성계수들을 서로 비교하여 제시하고 시험편의 크기와 기타 시험조건에 따른 파괴인성계수 측정치의 변화를 나타내고 있다. 또한, 암석에 포함되어있는 자연균열들의 특성과 파괴역학실험 중 유발되는 인공균열들의 형태를 비교하여 실험실에서 얻은 파괴역학적 계수들의 현장적용에 대한 문제점들을 지적하고 있다.

A Study on Hydro-mechanical Behaviors of Rock Joints using Rotary Shear Testing Apparatus (회전식 전단시험기를 이용한 암석절리의 수리-역학적 거동에 관한 연구)

  • To characterize the hydro-mechanical behavior of a rock joint, a rotary shear testing apparatus was devised in this study. Shear stress was driven by twisting the end of a sample in the rotary shear testing apparatus. The test results show that the rotary shear test underestimates the peak shear strength of a rock joint. The torque is known as a function of the radial distance from the axis of rotation, resulting in the radial variation of the shear stress. Fluid flow through rock joints is mainly dependent on the Joint roughness, contact area, initial aperture. To examine the dependency, the relationship between the hydraulic and the mechanical apertures for shear-flow was established by measuring the initial aperture. It shows that the mechanical aperture and the hydraulic aperture increase linearly with the dilatancy. The difference between the hydraulic and mechanical apertures describes the deviation from the behavior predicted by the parallel plate model.

  • 본 논문에서는 산업용 용접구조물의 피로성능 평가를 위한 시간 및 비용 절감형 전산피로시험법을 개발한다. 임의의 하중에 놓인 용접구조물의 성능저하 현상(균열발생 및 진전 등)을 손상역학에 기반하여 역학적으로 기술하고 자체개발한 유한요소해석코드에 탑재하여 이를 전산적으로 시뮬레이션한다. 정도 높은 용접구조물 전산피로시험법의 개발을 위해 용접잔류응력과 재료파라미터를 자체개발한 유한요소해석코드를 통해 구현한다. 개발된 전산피로시험법은 용접구조물의 피로시험 결과와 비교함으로서 제안 기법의 적합성 및 유용성을 검증한다.

  • This study includes results of basin test for hydrodynamic performance evaluation with a developed inflatable kayak. Inclining experiment and turning trial experiment of the developed inflatable kayak and an abroad product were carried out in the Ocean engineering Basin. Resistance test was carried out by using downscale model in the circulating water channel. Through method of following performance evaluation, advantage and disadvantage of the developed inflatable kayak were compared with those of the abroad product.

  • In this study, the fracture mechanics model as well as the elastic model was reviewed theoretically and four field case studies were conducted to investigate the feasibility of fracture mechanics model for hydraulic fracturing test. There was a difference between the result by fracture mechanics model and the one by elastic model. And the smaller initial crack length is, the larger the difference is. It is considered that the fracture mechanics model can be applied to the specific case of which the crack length is known. In this study, the rock tensile strength is measured using fracture mechanics model, brazilian test and elastic model. The measured tensile strength by the fracture mechanics model is the largest and the elastic model is the smallest. This result is due to the size effect of the each test. And the tensile strength from the elastic model for hydraulic fracturing test can be used to estimate the in-situ rock tensile strength.

  • Unlike the conventional triaxial test cells for cylindrical specimens, which impose uniform lateral confining pressures, the GREAT (Geo-Reservoir Experimental Analogue Technology) cell can exert differential radial stresses using eight independently-controlled pairs of lateral loading elements and thereby generate horizontal stress fields with various magnitudes and orientations. In the preceding companion paper, GREAT cell tests were numerically simulated under different mechanical loading conditions and the validity of the numerical model was investigated by comparing experimental and numerical results for circumferential strain. In the present study, we simulated GREAT cell tests for an artificial sample containing a fracture under both mechanical loading and fluid flow conditions. The numerical simulation was carried out by varying the mechanical properties of the fracture surface, which were unknown. The numerical responses (circumferential strains) of the sample were compared with experimental data and a good match was found between the numerical and experimental results under certain mechanical conditions of the fracture surface. Additionally, the effect of fluid flow conditions on the mechanical behavior of the sample was investigated and discussed.

Fundamental Study for Compaction Methods by Mechanical Tests (역학적 시험에 의한 다짐방법의 적합성 평가를 위한 기초연구)

  • In this study, compaction evaluating program based on ASTM critria is developed bu analyzing the results of laboratory tests. And the laboratory tests such as compaction test, triaxial test and resonance column test of subgrade soils are performed to develop compaction management methodology at seven test sites. Especially, to figure out chararteristic with changing compactive efforts, the test was carried out at five levels of compactive efforts at each soil sample. Database was set up from the test results. With the methodology using mechanical property - the elastic modulus, the gap between road design and management and road construction management is narrowed. The regression equation of G/$G_{max}$ is proposed at each strain level of subgrade soils according to AASHTO criteria, and the relationship between fundamental properties of soil mass and degree of compaction is derived as well. The development of compaction management and field compaction management method is proposed by the elastic modulus based on mechanical tests.

  • 본 논문에서는 배수성(저소음)포장을 포함하는 2-Layer 아스팔트 포장의 상부층과 하부층의 역학적인 특성을 평가하는데 목적이 있다. 연구 방법으로는 슈퍼페이브 배합설계로 2-Layer 아스팔트 포장의 상 하부층 시편을 제작하였으며, 시편 상부층의 최대공칭치수는 4.75mm이고 하부층의 최대공칭치수는 13mm이다. 이 시편에 대한 기본 물성 시험 실시 후 마샬 안정도 시험에 대한 안정도와 흐름값을 평가하였다. 그리고 상부층과 하부층의 자유단 공진주 시험을 통해 탄성계수(E)를 측정하였고, 비파괴 시험법인 슈미트해머(Schmidt hammer)를 이용해 반발경도를 측정한 후 강도를 추정하였다. 또한 일축압축시험으로 측정된 압축강도로 탄성계수($E_{50}$)를 계산하였다. 마지막으로 각각의 역학적 시험을 통해 얻어진 결과값으로 강도(qu)와 탄성계수 ($E_{50}$)의 상관관계와 추정식으로 구한 강도와 일축압축강도 시험으로 얻어진 강도와의 상관관계를 분석하였고, 자유단 공진주 시험의 탄성계수(E)값과 일축압축시험의 결과로 얻어진 탄성계수($E_{50}$)의 상관관계를 분석하였다.

  • In this study, we measure the aerodynamic forces acting on an AREX train in a crosswind by wind tunnel testing. A detailed test model scaled to 5% of the original and including the inter-car, under-body, and the bogie systems was developed. The aerodynamic forces on the train vehicles have been measured in a 4 m $\times$ 3 m test section of the subsonic wind tunnel located in Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI). The aerodynamic forces and moments of the train model on two different track models have been plotted for various yaw angles, and the characteristics of the aerodynamic coefficients have been analyzed at the experimental conditions.

Mechanical Behavior of Steel Pipe Pin-Cups Embedded in Concrete (콘크리트에 매입된 강관 핀컵의 역학적 거동)

  • To investigate the mechanical behavior of pin cups created from steel pipes embedded in concrete, test blocks were made and load tests were conducted. The pin was inserted in the pin cup at various depths and was loaded in a lateral direction at a constant displacement speed. A formula, which took into consideration the deformation and failure shapes of the pin cups, observed during and after the tests, was used to estimate its mechanical behavior. The test values were determined to be relevant to the formula and were distributed within a reasonably narrow range. The mean and the 95% survival probability value of maximum resistance were determined by factoring the formula at 1.01 and 0.92, respectively.
