  • Plate heat exchangers(PHE) have been commercialized since the 1920s. Since then, although the basic concept of PHEs has changed little, its design and construction have progressed significantly to accommodate higher temperatures, higher pressures, and large heat exchanging capacities. The development trend of PHEs is consistent with heat plate developments with better thermal efficiency, lower pressure drop, and good flow distribution. The purpose of this paper is to introduce the main development processes of a plate cooler for medium-speed engine lubricant oil cooling in vessels which is in line with the development trend of PHEs and to provide its thermal performance data that were found out during experimental tests. The plate cooler in this study cannot measure the wall temperatures directly due to its structural characteristics, so the heat transfer coefficients were calculated using the modified Wilson Plot method. The water-to-water tests were first conducted experimentally to figure out the characteristics of heat transfer coefficients and pressure drops on the water side and then the water-to-oil tests followed to obtain the heat transfer coefficients on the oil side. The test results showed that heat transfer coefficients and pressure drops on both water and oil side increased with flow rates, and it was also found that all the development targets of the plate cooler in this study were achieved successfully.

  • The recent deployment of RIA (Rich Internet Application) is often involved with the complex JavaScript code, which leads to the announcement of high performance JavaScript engines for its efficient execution. And the Sunspider benchmark is being widely used for the performance evaluation of these JavaScript engines. In this paper, we compare the execution methods of three high-performance JavaScript engines, Mozilla TraceMonkey, Google V8, and Apple SquirrelFish Extreme, and measure their performances using the SunSpider benchmark. We also evaluate the pros and cons of each engine, based on its execution method and the code characteristics of the SunSpider benchmarks.

  • This study analyzed the mechanical characteristics and evaluated their subsequent performance for two types of seals which reinforced characteristics with lower friction and anti-wear functions among the foremost important features in the automotive engine seals; one with the addition of glass fiber to PTFE(Polytetrafluoro ethylene); the other with the addition of self-lubricant molybdenumin addition to the glass fiber. Based on the configuration design of seal installed to the front part in the automotive engine, this study carried out interpretations on the stress and reaction for those two types of oil seals to compare the maximum stress and contact load generated from the seal steel, rubber and PTFE lip. This study also verified the stress concentration and anti-wear performance through the coefficient of friction, torque and durability test by producing two types of PTFE seals actually.
