Study of Combustion Characteristics with Variations of Combustion Parameter in Ultra-Lean LPG Direct Injection Engine (연소제어인자의 변화에 따른 직접분사식 초희박 LPG엔진의 연소특성 연구)

  • Nowadays, automotive manufacturers have developed various technologies to improve fuel economy and reduce harmful emissions. The ultra-lean direct injection engine is a promising technology because it has the advantage of improving thermal efficiency through the deliberate control of fuel and ignition. This study aims to investigate the development of a spray-guided-type lean-burn LPG direct injection engine through the redesign of the combustion system. This engine uses a central-injection-type cylinder head in which the injector is installed adjacent to the spark plug. Fuel consumption and combustion stability were estimated depending on the ignition timing and injection timing at various air-fuel ratios. The optimal injection timing and ignition timing were based on the best fuel consumption and combustion stability.

Study on the Performance and Emission Characteristics of a DI Diesel Engine Operated with LPG / Bio-diesel Blended Fuel (LPG/바이오디젤 혼합연료를 사용하는 직접분사식 디젤엔진의 성능 및 배기특성에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, we experimentally investigated a compression ignition engine operated with Bio-diesel blended LPG fuel. In particular, the performance, emissions characteristics (including total hydrocarbon, carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, and carbon dioxides emissions), and combustion stability of a CI engine fueled with Bio-diesel blended LPG fuel were examined at 1500 rpm. The percentage of Bio-diesel in the fuel blend ranged from 20-60%. The results showed that stable engine operation was possible for a wide range of engine loads up to 40% Bio-diesel by mass. When the Bio-diesel content was increased, leading to a decrease in the lower heating value of the blended fuel, the cetane value increased, resulting in a advanced start of heat release. Exhaust emission measurements showed that THC and CO emissions were increased when using the blended fuel at low engine speeds due to partial burn from over-mixing. NOx emission was emitted less at lower loads and more at higher loads.

Flow Characteristics of Cryogenic Oxidizer in Liquid Propellant Rocket Engine (액체로켓 엔진에서의 극저온 산화제의 유동 특성)

  • In most cryogenic liquid rocket engines, liquid oxygen manifold and injector are not thermally insulated from room temperature environment fur reducing system complexity and the weight. This feature of cryogenic liquid rocket engine results in the situation that cryogenic liquid oxygen flow is easy to be vaporized especially in the vicinity of the manifold and the injector wall. The research in this paper is focused on two-phase flow phenomena of liquid oxygen in rocket engine. Vapor fraction was estimated by comparing the measured two-phase flow pressure drop in engine manifold and the injector with ideal single phase pressure drop. Heat flux into cryogenic flow is estimated by measuring the wall temperature on the engine manifold to examine boiling characteristics. Suitable correlations for cryogenic two-phase flow were also reviewed to see their applicability. In addition, the effect of vapor generation in liquid rocket engine manifold and injector on engine performance and stability was considered.

  • 응급상태가 발생하면 여러 가지 응급구조장비를 탑재한 차량이 출동하여 현장에서 각종 구조 활동을 진행한다. 긴급 구난차량에는 각종 구조장비를 보유하고 있으며, 구조대원의 숙련도에 따라 구조결과는 약간씩 다르게 나타날 수 있지만 구조장비의 성능과 사용상의 편리성에 많은 영향을 받을 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 응급구조 차량의 엔진출력의 잉여분을 충분히 활용하여 엔진실 내에 장착이 가능한 고효율 발전을 설비하여 엔진의 시동만으로 전력을 생산하고 발생된 전압을 전력변환기를 통해 안정적인 전력을 확보하여 사용의 편의성을 도모할 수 있는 전원장치를 개발하였다.

  • Liquid rocket combustion chamber must have high confidence in combustion performance and combustion stability. Expecially, an injector playing a part in the mixing of propellants is an important parameter to determine it. The present study was carried out in the viewpoint of combustion stability to evaluate the combustion stability characteristics of Coaxial Swirl Injector, using a model similarity method. Besides, in case of baffle applied to improve combustion stability, the effectiveness getting from changing the axial length and the gap of baffle was investigated.

  • In this study, a three-dimensional finite-element analysis code has been developed to predict acoustic behaviors in rocket combustion chambers and to quantitatively evaluate acoustic stability margins for various designs with passive stabilization devices such as baffle and acoustic resonators. As a validation case, computations are made for combustion chambers with/without a hub-and-six-blade baffle which are developed in the KSR-III Development Program. Compared with experimental results from ambient acoustic test, the numerical approach reasonably well predicts acoustic pressure responses to acoustic oscillation excitation for both unbaffled and baffled combustion chambers and yields quantitatively good agreement for acoustic damping effects of baffle installation in terms of damping factor ratio and resonant frequency shift.

  • 우주발사체의 비행 목표는 위성의 궤도 투입이다. 이를 위해서는 발사체에서 요구되는 추력값과 총추력을 보장하는 추진기관이 개발되어야 한다. 엔진은 엔진 자체의 작동 안정성을 위해서 유량제어를 필요로 하지만, 이뿐만이 아니라, 발사체의 비행임무 수행을 위해서도 추진제가 모두 소진되는 시스템(TDS:Tank Depletion System) 개념이 도입되어야 하며, 이는 유량 제어를 통해서 실현된다. 본 연구에서는 우주발사체의 비행임무 수행에 필요한 즉, 총추력 오차 범위, 추력 오차 범위, 추진제 탑재량 및 잔류량 오차범위 관점에서 필요한 추진기관에 요구되는 성능을 검토하였고, 이를 위해 TDS 개념의 도입과 더불어 이를 구현할 수 있는 유량제어 개념을 제시하였다.

  • This study suggests manufacturing and cleaning the feeding system of hydrogen peroxide to use oxidizer of liquid rocket. We established the process of cleaning and passivation in order to minimize the pollution of Hydrogen Peroxide feeding system. And, we verified stability of the manufactured feeding system by leak test & hot test.

Visualization of Initial Flame Development in an SI Engine (스파크 점화 엔진에서 초기화염 발달의 가시화)

  • Initial flame development and propagation were visualized under different fuel injection timings to relate the initial flame development to the engine stability in a port injection SI engine. Experiments were performed in an optical single cylinder engine modified from a production engine and images were captured through the quartz window mounted in the piston by an intensified CCD camera. Stratification state was controlled by varying injection timing. Under each injection condition, the flame images were captured at the pre-set crank angles. These were averaged and processed to characterize the flame. The flame stability was estimated by the weighted average of flame area, luminosity, and standard deviation of flame area. Results show that stratification state according to injection timing did not affect on the direction of flame propagation. The flame development and the initial flame stability are strongly dependent on the stratified conditions and the initial flame stability governs the engine stability and lean misfire limit.

  • 가스터빈 엔진의 효율 및 성능은 터빈입구온도에 크게 좌우되므로, 높은 열효율을 얻기 위하여 최근 가스터빈 엔진은 높은 입구온도(대략 1400-150$0^{\circ}C$)에서 작동되도록 설계되고 있다. 이는 요소재질의 열한계점을 훨씬 상회하며, 이와 같은 입구온도의 고온화 경향은 터빈요소에 대한 열부하를 증가시키고 있다. 따라서 극한의 작동조건하에서의 허용수명 및 안정성의 유지를 위해서 내부대류냉각, 충돌세트냉각과 더불어 막냉각기법이 많이 응용되고 있다. 막냉각기법은 연소기 벽면 혹은 터빈블레이드 표면의 작은 구멍들을 통해서 압축기의 공기를 분사하여 표면에 고온의 유체와 일종의 단열벽을 형성하여 표면을 보호하는 냉각방법이다. 지금까지는 주로 단면적이 일정한 막냉각홀에 대한 연구가 주가 되어왔으나, 이러한 막냉각홀을 이용하는 경우 많은 문제점이 발생한다.
