본 고에서는 지식베이스엔지니어링이 기존의 제품개발 방법론을 개선하기 위한 지능적인 설계도구로서 컴퓨터를 사용하는 새롭고 흥미로운 대안임을 살펴보았다. 전문가의 설계 및 현장 경험을 조직적이고 체계적으로 수집하여 활용하는 것은 동시공학(Concurrent Engineering) 방법론의 실행을 위한 도구로서 매우 중요함을 살펴보았다. 또한 시스템의 효과적인 구축을 위해 어떤한 것들을 고려해야 하는지도 살펴보았다. 이러한 일련의 과정을 통해 설계 분야가 미약한 국내 환경에 지식베이스엔지니어링이 하루 속히 정착되기를 희망한다.

Knowledge management system (KMS) is an information system that helps an organization manage its knowledge assets effectively as well as maximize their values within the organization. In engineering fields, because the expertise and know-how of experts are so critical, KMS can play an important role to store and share the experts' knowledge within the organization. This paper adopts an object-oriented approach to analyze and design an engineering knowledge management system required to manage and share engineering knowledge effectively. A field study is conducted against construction and automobile engineers to draw critical success factors to successfully implement and adopt an engineering KMS and based on this study, the engineering KMS has been analyzed and designed. Also, this paper proposed a flexible system architecture that can be applied to various engineering fields.

The arrester's condition is related directly to protected equipment's safety. The most important is, therefore, arrester aging diagnosis. In this study, arrester aging diagnosis expert system is implemented to use JESS shell-engine and the leakage current detection technique.

Weld defects degrade the strength and safety of astructure and are resulted from the various cases. The complexity of causal relation of weld defects requires an expert for the analysis of weld defects and the measures counter to them. An expert system has the intelligent functions such as the representation of knowledge and the inference. On this research, weld defect are systematically analysed and their causal model is developed. This information is saved to the knowledge base. The suitable inference algorithm for the diagnosis of weld defects is developed and realized with C++ programming.

상하수도기술사라면 으레 엔지니어링 업체 전문가만이 취득할 수 있는 자격증이라고 생각하기 쉽다. 하지만 올해부터 실시된 협회의 최고 전문가 교육과정인 '상하수도 고급기술자 양성과정'을 통해 벌써 두 명의 기술사가 탄생했다. 한국수자원공사 설계사업처에 근무하는 현상락 씨(35세, 87회 기술사)와 울산광역시 상수도사업본부 환경연구사로 있는 박수이 씨(42세, 1차 합격)에게 그간 공부했던 방법과 합격의 비법이 들어보았다.
