Recent studies have actively investigated ways to improve the economic feasibility and efficiency of the Fischer-Tropsch process by increasing the yields of the monocyclic aromatic compounds (BTEX). In this study, ethylene was selected as a model of F-T-derived hydrocarbons, and the ethylene-to-aromatics (ETA) reaction was investigated according to changes in acid characteristics, mesopores, and crystallinity of HZSM-5 (HZ5). Fluorinated HZ5 was prepared by calcination followed by impregnation of an aqueous NH4F solution having different molar concentrations in HZ5, and the structural and chemical properties of F/HZ5 were investigated through Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET), solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), NH3-temperature-programmed desorption (TPD), and pyridine-IR spectroscopy. The ETA reactions were performed at 673 K under 0.1 MPa, and fluorinating HZ5 by an aqueous NH4F solution of 0.17 M improved ethylene conversion, BTEX selectivity, and catalytic stability due to acidity, mesopore fraction, and crystallinity.
Polymerization properties of six dinuclear constrained geometry catalysts (DCGC) were investigated. The different length bridges of three catalysts were para-phenyl (Catalyst 1), para-xylyl (Catalyst 2), and para-diethylene phenyl (Catalyst 6). The other three DCGC have the same para-xylyl bridge with the different substituents at the phenyl ring of the bridge. The selected substituents were isopropyl (Catalyst 3), n-hexyl (Cataylst 4), and n-octyl (Catalyst 5), It was found that the longer catalyst not only exhibited a greater activity but also prepared a higher molecular weight copolymer. The catalyst 3 having a bulky isopropyl substituent revealed the lower activity but formed the highest molecular weight polymer comparing with the other alkyl substituted DCGCs. These results were able to be understood on the basis of the electronic and steric characteristics of the bridge. This study confirms that the control of the bridge structure of DCGC may contribute to control the microstructure of polymers.
Changes in the electrical conductivity of gallium doped zinc oxide during the dehydrogenative oxidation of ethanol between 250 and $350^{\circ}C$ have been studied. Both dehydrogenation and dehydration of ethanol takes place on ZnO. At $300^{\circ}C$ and above formation of $CO_2$ was observed accompanied by an increase in the electrical conductivity. This seems to be due to oxidation of CO formed by the decomposition of acetaldehyde. Addition of oxygen to ethanol increases the amount of acetaldehyde formed, while no change is observed in ethylene formation. It may be that oxygen which is present primarily as $O^-$ provides a favorable site for the adsorption of ethanol and for subsequent hydrogen substraction.
Pyrolysis of bituminous coal has been carried out in a two-stage fixed bed reactor to produce high heating value gas(7000 kcal/N㎥) for industrial or town gas usage. The effects of coke catalyst, pyrolysis temperature (468∼565$^{\circ}C$), and catalytic cracking temperature (700∼850$^{\circ}C$) on the product gas properties from pyrolysis of bituminous coal have been determined. From pyrolysis of Dong Jin coal with coke, the carbon deposition on catalyst is found to be less than 5% of product tar and approximately 15% of total energy iii the parent coal can be recovered as high heating value gas. Oil composition in the product tar from the two-stage pyrolysis is higher than that from low-temperature pyrolysis. The tar produced from pyrolysis below 516$^{\circ}C$ can be easily catalytically cracked but, the tar produced above 565$^{\circ}C$ cannot be cracked easily with catalyst. From the product gas analysis, the catalytic cracking temperature should be maintained below 800$^{\circ}C$ since cracking speed of ethylene increases remarkably with the cracking temperature above 800$^{\circ}C$.

[실험방법] Sample은 pure Ti 및 Ti-xNi(x=49.0, 51.1, 52.2, 52.5 at.%)를 이용하였다.
Aziridine derivatives were utilized for the formation of aziridine N-oxides at low temperature, which were subject to easy decomposition and/or rearrangement like the protonated aziridines at room temperature. t-Butyl nitroso compound formed by the decomposition of N-oxide is easily characterized by its blue color and it is the major product in case that no branched alkyl groups are substituted on the carbon atoms of the aziridine ring and the stationary groups on the nitrogen are inert to rearrange the oxide such as the t-butyl group. The oxidative rearrangement products, however, are mainly formed when the substituents are methyl or ethyl group on the carbon atoms. It is interesting to see that the sigmatropic rearrangement of 2-ethyl aziridine gave only cis olefinic compound selectively in case that t-butyl group was substituted on the nitrogen, whereas N-hydroxy aziridine compounds were formed exclusively when t-butyl group was replaced with ethyl group.
Light olefins are important petrochemicals as well as primary building blocks for various chemical intermediates. As the number of ethane cracking center (ECC) process, in which ethylene accounts for most of the production, has increased in recent years, propylene supply is not catching up with steadily increasing propylene demand. This trend makes the conversion of methanol to olefins to get more industrial importance. The methanol to olefins (MTO) process produces methanol through syngas and obtain olefins such as propylene through methanol. Since the reaction from methanol to olefins provides different product compositions depending on the catalyst used for the reaction, it is important to choose an appropriate separation process for the reaction product with different composition. Four different separation processes are considered for four representative cases of product compositions. The separation processes for the reaction products are evaluated by techno-economic analysis based on the simulation results using Aspen plus. Guidelines are provided for selecting a suitable separation process for each of representative case of product compositions in the MTO process.
Conversion of DME (dimethyl ether) or methanol to light olefins (ethylene, propylene, butenes) over SAPO-34 were systematically studied, where it was observed that DME was dehydrated to light olefins and partially converted to by-products such as CO and $CO_2$ at various reaction temperatures on the time-on-stream. SAPO-34 catalyst during the DTO (dimetyl ether-to-olefins) reaction was significantly deactivated compared with MTO (methanol-toolefins) reaction. By addition of water to the reaction feed, the yield to light olefins was not only increased, but the life time of the catalyst was also prolonged by the suppression of the coke formation by steam.
This study was conducted to examine the effects of pulsing treatment and to develop techniques treated right after harvest by grower for extending vase life and improving flower quality in cut freesia. Thirty minutes dipping treatment of STS 2 mM followed by 20 hr pulsing in sucrose 10% + BA 10 ppm + 8-HQS 300 ppm solution showed the best results in vase life and flower quality of cut freesia when kept in vase water. This pretreatment extended vase life by 24.7% than control, and improved quality of cut freesia significantly in flower diameter, percent flowering (35.4%), fresh weight, water uptake, and carotenoid content, and depressed ethylene production and respiration rate.
