Development of a Lane Detect Algorithm from Road-Facing Cameras on a Vehicle (차량에 부착된 측하방 CCD카메라를 이용한 차선추출 알고리즘 개발)

  • 3D positional information of lane can be automatically calculated tv combining GPS data, IMU data if coordinates of lane centers are given. The Road Safety Survey and Analysis Vehicle(RoSSAV) is currently under development to analyze three dimensional safety and stability of roads. RoSSAV has GPS and IMU sensors to get positional information of the vehicle and two road-facing CCD cameras for extraction of lane coordinates. In this paper, we develop technology that automatically detects centers of lanes from the road-facing cameras of RoSSAV. The proposed algorithm defines line-support regions by grouping pixels with similar edge orientation and magnitude together and extracts a line from each line support region by planar fitting. Then if extracted lines and the region in-between satisfy the criteria of brightness and width, we decide this region as lane. The proposed algorithm was more precise and stable than the previously proposed algorithm based on brightness threshold method. Experiments with real road scenes confirmed that lane was effectively extracted by the proposed algorithm.

Two-step Boundary Extraction Algorithm with Model (모델 정보를 이용한 2단계 윤곽선 추출 기법)

  • We propose an algorithm for extracting the boundary of a desired object with shape information obtained from sample images. Considering global shape obtained from sample images and edge orientation as well as edge magnitude, the Proposed method composed of two steps finds the boundary of an object. The first step is the approximate segmentation that extracts a rough boundary with a probability map and an edge map. And the second step is the detailed segmentation for finding more accurate boundary based on the SEEL (seed-point extraction and edge linking) algorithm. The experiment results using IR images show robustness to low-quality image and better performance than conventional segmentation methods.

  • The extraction of a face is a very important part for human interface, biometrics and security. In this paper, we applies DCM(Dilation of Color and Motion) filter and Active Contour Models to extract facial outline. First, DCM filter is made by applying morphology dilation to the combination of facial color image and differential image applied by dilation previously. This filter is used to remove complex background and to detect facial outline. Because Active Contour Models receive a large effect according to initial curves, we calculate rotational degree using geometric ratio of face, eyes and mouth. We use edgeness and intensity as an image energy, in order to extract outline in the area of weak edge. We acquire various head-pose images with both eyes from five persons in inner space with complex background. As an experimental result with total 125 images gathered by 25 per person, it shows that average extraction rate of facial outline is 98.1% and average processing time is 0.2sec.

Image Denoising Using Nonlocal Similarity and 3D Filtering (비지역적 유사성 및 3차원 필터링 기반 영상 잡음제거)

  • Denoising which is one of major research topics in the image processing deals with recovering the noisy images. Natural images are well known not only for their local but also nonlocal similarity. Patterns of unique edges and texture which are crucial for understanding the image are repeated over the nonlocal region. In this paper, a nonlocal similarity based denoising algorithm is proposed. First for every blocks of the noisy image, nonlocal similar blocks are gathered to construct a overcomplete data set which are inherently sparse in the transform domain due to the characteristics of the images. Then, the sparse transform coefficients are filtered to suppress the non-sparse additive noise. Finally, the image is recovered by aggregating the overcomplete estimates of each pixel. Performance experiments with several images show that the proposed algorithm outperforms the conventional methods in removing the additive Gaussian noise effectively while preserving the image details.

Automatic Matching of Multi-Sensor Images Using Edge Detection Based on Thinning Algorithm (세선화 알고리즘 기반의 에지검출을 이용한 멀티센서 영상의 자동매칭)

  • This study introduces an automatic image matching algorithm that can be applied for the scale different image pairs consisting of the satellite pushbroom images and the aerial frame images. The proposed method is based on several image processing techniques such as pre-processing, filtering, edge thinning, interest point extraction, and key-descriptor matching, in order to enhance the matching accuracy and the processing speed. The proposed method utilizes various characteristics, such as the different geometry of image acquisition and the different radiometric characteristics, of the multi-sensor images. In addition, the suggested method uses the sensor model to minimize search area and eliminate false-matching points automatically.

Nonlinear Anisotropic Diffusion Using Adaptive Weighted Median Filters (적응 가중 미디언 필터를 이용한 영상 확산 알고리즘)

  • Recently, many research activities in the image processing area are concentrated on developing new algorithms by finding the solution of the 'diffusion equation'. The diffusion algorithms are expected to be utilized in numerous applications including noise removal and image restoration, edge detection, segmentation, etc. In this paper, at first, it will be shown that the anisotropic diffusion algorithms have the similar structure with the adaptive FIR filters with cross-shaped 5-tap kernel, and this relatively small-sized kernel causes many iterating procedure for satisfactory filtering effects. Moreover, it will also be shown that lots of modifications which are adopted to the conventional Gaussian diffusion method in order to weaken the edge blurring nature of the linear filtering process increases another computational burden. We propose a new Median diffusion scheme by replacing the adaptive linear filters in the diffusion process with the AWM (Adaptive Weighted Median) filters. A diffusion-equation-based adaptation scheme is also proposed. With the proposed scheme, the size of the diffusion kernel can be increased, and thus diffusion speed greatly increases. Simulation results shows that the proposed Median diffusion scheme outperforms in noise removal (especially impulsive noise), and edge preservation.

Recognition System of Car License Plate using Fuzzy Neural Networks (퍼지 신경망을 이용한 자동차 번호판 인식 시스템)

  • In this paper, we propose a novel method to extract an area of car licence plate and codes of vehicle number from a photographed car image using features on vertical edges and a new Fuzzy neural network algorithm to recognize extracted codes. Prewitt mask is used in searching for vertical edges for detection of an area of vehicle number plate and feature information of vehicle number palate is used to eliminate image noises and extract the plate area and individual codes of vehicle number. Finally, for recognition of extracted codes, we use the proposed Fuzzy neural network algorithm, in which FCM is used as the learning structure between input and middle layers and Max_Min neural network is used as the learning structure within inhibition and output layers. Through a variety of experiments using real 150 images of vehicle, we showed that the proposed method is more efficient than others.

An Efficient Indoor-Outdoor Scene Classification Method (효율적인 실내의 영상 분류 기법)

  • Prior research works in indoor-outdoor classification have been conducted based on a simple combination of low-level features. However, since there are many challenging problems due to the extreme variability of the scene contents, most methods proposed recently tend to combine the low-level features with high-level information such as the presence of trees and sky. To extract these regions from videos, we need to conduct additional tasks, which may yield the increasing number of feature dimensions or computational burden. Therefore, an efficient indoor-outdoor scene classification method is proposed in this paper. First, the video is divided into the five same-sized blocks. Then we define and use the edge and color orientation histogram (ECOH) descriptors to represent each sub-block efficiently. Finally, all ECOH values are simply concatenated to generated the feature vector. To justify the efficiency and robustness of the proposed method, a diverse database of over 1200 videos is evaluated. Moreover, we improve the classification performance by using different weight values determined through the learning process.

A Study on Image Reconstructing Algorithm in Uniformly Distributed Impulsive Noise Environment (균등 분포된 임펄스 잡음 환경에서의 영상 복원 알고리즘에 관한 연구)

  • Many researches have been processed to reconstruct corrupted an image by noise in fields of signal processing such as image recognition and compute. vision, and AWGN(additive white gaussian noise) and impulse noise are representative. Impulse noise consists of fired-valued(salt & pepper) impulse noise and random-valued impulse noise, and non-linear filters such as SM(standard median) filters are used to remove this noise. But basic SM filters still generate many errors in edge regions of an image, and in order to overcome this problem a variety of methods have been researched. In this paper, we proposed an impulse noise removal algorithm which is superior to the edge preserving capacity. At this tine, after detecting a noise by using the noise detector, we applied a noise removal algorithm based on the min-max operation and compared the capacity with existing methods through simulation.

Study on Performance Variation of Machine Vision according to Velocity of an Object and Precision Improvement by Linear Compensation (측정물의 속도에 따른 머신비젼의 성능변화와 선형보상에 의한 정밀도 향상)

  • In this paper, performance analysis of machine vision techniques is presented to improve the convenience and speed of automatic inspection in the industrial field when machine vision is applied to the image not taken in the stationary state, but in the moving state on a conveyer. When the length of cylindrical rods used for automobiles was measured using the edge detection method, the conveying speed increased, and the uncertainty of the boundary between the background and the part image increased, which resulted in a shorter image of the object taken. This paper proposes a linear compensation method to predict the biased errors of the length measurements after examining the pattern of biased and random errors, respectively, with 6 different types of specimens and 7 velocity stages. The length measurement corrected by the linear compensation method had the same accuracy as the stationary state within the speed range of 30 cm/s and could enhance the application capability in automatic inspections.
