This paper is to study on the behavior of CFT column to H-beam end plate connections with penetrated high-strength bolts under cyclic load. The main parameters are as follows: 1) the thickness of end plate: 16mm, 22mm and 25mm, 2) the thickness of column : 9mm and 12mm. Comparison and analysis on the test results are performed in accordance with parameters. This study investigates energy absorption capacity of beam-column connections and analyzes the shear strength of joint panel. The shear strength of joint panel is estimated by superimposing the strength of the steel which is based on the von Mises yield criterion and that of the concrete which is used the Strut model to consider the effect of filled concrete.

Short discrete fibers compounded with concrete can enhance the tensile resistance and ductility of concrete. Recently, the effectiveness of the reinforcement has increased according to the increasing length of steel fiber. However, the lengthening of steel fiber requires reducing the ratio of the fiber content to remain the workability and quality of concrete. Thus, the present study evaluated the flexural performance of fiber reinforced concrete with less than l.0% fiber volume ratios of steel fiber, 30mm and 60mm long, and polypropylene fiber, being evaluated as a good reinforcing material with chemical stability, long-term durability, and cost effectiveness. Concrete with more than 0.25% steel and 0.5% polypropylene fibers improved the brittle failure of concrete after reaching cracking strength. Concrete reinforced with polypropylene exhibited deflection-softening behavior, but that with more than 0.5% polypropylene delayed stress reduction and recovered flexural strength by 60 to 80% after cracking strength. In conclusion, concrete reinforced with more than 0.75% polypropylene could improve structural flexural performance. In particular, energy absorption capacity of reinforced concrete with 1.0% polypropylene fiber was similar to that with 0.5% and 0.7% steel fibers.
The current traffic situation in Korea can be described as rapid change in traffic volume and diversity in vehicle size from compact cars to large trucks. W-beam barrier most widely used in Korea was found not to satisfy the stiffness requirement for the Koran impact condition of 14 ton-60Km/h-15deg. and it was too stiff for small vehicles impacting with more realistic speed to satisfy the safety of vehicle occupants. To develop a guardrail system satisfying the two contradicting goals, a thrie-beam guardrail system, which had the beam thickness of 3.2mm and rubber cushions, was conceived. Even though the height of the thrie-beam(450mm) is increased by 100mm as compared to that of W-beam (350mm), there was only 2% increase in the weight of the thrie-beam. The new thrie-beam barrier system could contain more wide range of vehicle bumper heights, and showed better performance in the viewpoint of stiffness and energy absorbing capability than the W-beam system. The impact performance was evaluated from a crash test. The developed thrie-beam guardrail system satisfied all applicable criteria for NCHRP 350 test designation 3-10.
Design and detailing requirements of seismic provisions for Concentrically Braced Frames (CBF) were specified based on the premise that bracing members with large KL/r and low b/t have superior seismic performance. However, relatively few tests have been done to investigate the cyclic behavior of CBF. Therefore, the question lies on whether the compression member of CBF plays as significant a role as what has been typically assumed by design providers. In this paper, existing experimental data were reviewed to quantify the extent of hysteretic energy achieved by bracing members in past compression tests as well as the extent of degradation of the compression force given repeated cycling loading.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the structural performance of doubly reinforced composite beams with steel fiber concretes and steel angles. For this purpose, total 6 specimens whose variables are shear span-to-depth ratio, existence of shear reinforcement, and shear reinforcement details, are made and tested. All specimens are constructed of steel fiber concretes with specified compressive strength of 30 MPa and steel fiber volumn content of 1%. From the experimental results, structural performance of doubly reinforced composite beams are evaluated in terms of strength, stiffness, ductility, and energy absorbing capacity. For the better structural performance, it is recommended that the composite beam is designed with diagonal shear reinforcement.

Because of relatively heavy dead weight of concrete itself and unavoidable heat of massive concrete in bridge piers, circular hollow columns are widely used in Korean highway bridges. Since the occurrence of 1995 Kobe earthquake, there have been much concerns about seismic design for various infrastructures, inclusive of bridge structures. It is, however, understood that there are not much research works for nonlinear behavior of circular hollow columns subjected to eqrthquake motions. The objective of this experimental research is to investigate nonlinear behavior of circular hollow reinforced concrete bridge piers under the quasi-static cyclic load, and then to enhance their ductility by strengthening the plastic hinge region with glassfiber sheets. Particularly for this test, constant 10 cyclic loads have been repeatedly actuated to investigate the magnitude of strength degradation for the displacement ductility factor. Important test parameters are seismic design, confinement steel ratio, axial force and load pattern. It is observed from quasi-static tests for 7 bridge piers that the seismically designed columns and the retrofitted columns show better performance than the nonseismically designed colums, i.e. about 20% higher for energy dissipation capacity and about 70% higher for curvatures.
Existing shear wall system may cause ductility fallen to the structure which it is on because relatively weak concrete core would easy to be damaged. In this study, steel hysteresis dampers whose stiffness is higher than existing coupling beam and whose strength is easy to change depending on design load was used in coupling beam. The steel hysteresis damper was proposed for the shape connected in double in series, from this, several static test were conducted to verify structural performance of the damper. FEM analysis was also performed, then design equation were suggested.

A series of field tests on hybrid desiccant cooling systems were conducted in July-August, 2013. The temperature and humidity of the supply and return air, power, and heat consumption were monitored and transferred in real time through the Internet. The performance parameters of the cooling system, namely, cooling capacity and COP (coefficient of performance), were evaluated from the measured data and their variations under outdoor conditions was analyzed. It was found that with increase in the outdoor temperature, the total energy decreases and cooling capacity increases whereas the latter decreases with increase in the outdoor humidity. The COP was also found to increase with the increase in outdoor temperature.

This study was performed to verify the structural reinforcing effect of recycled polyethylene terephthalate (PET) fiber. In order to verify the structural reinforcing capacity of RPET fiber, recycled PET fiber added RC slab specimens were prepared to examine the flexural capacity while those of plain concrete and those of added with PP fiber, and the behavior of the specimens were also evaluated. The result shows that the compressive strength reduces as the fiber volume fraction increases, and the rate of reduction varies from 2% to 7%. The result of the flexural capacity shows that the ultimate capacity of plain specimens is the highest compare to those fiber reinforced specimens, but it has shown that specimens reinforced by 5% PET fiber has the highest energy absorption and the ductility index. In the application of PET fiber in slab specimens has shown that ductility capacity have increased where the ultimate capacity decreasing. That is the different tendency of beam specimens, which the ultimate capacity and the ductility of those have both shown the improvement compare to plain concrete specimens, which means the reinforcing effect of PET fiber in slab is less strong than in beam. Therefore, the application of PET fiber in slab structures as reinforcement needs the proper mix proportion of concrete and volume fraction of PET fiber with deep consideration of the structures.

Consistent efforts have been made to reduce the weight of automotive parts by using lightweight materials. This has resulted in the replacement of conventional steels in car body structures with high-strength steels, and the current usage rate has reached 50%. This study examines the structural stiffness and energy absorption capability of bumper beams made of high-strength steels. New types of bumper beam cross sections are proposed. The structural stiffness and maximum bending force were computed via finite element analysis as about 25tons and 7.5tons/mm, and there were no significant differences among the proposedcross sections. Dynamic analysis was also carried out to investigate the energy absorption capabilities of the bumper beams, and the effects of materials and thickness reduction were analyzed. High-strength steel can be used to achieve weight reduction with comparable structural performance to conventional bumper beams.
